The Loki Thread

So how do you guys feel about Josh Hartnett? I kinda like it.

Not a fan of Hartnett. I hope he pulls something out of left field to make Loki interesting cause as far as I've seen so far he's one dull dude.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone's going to compare him to Heath Ledger's surprisingly amazing performance as the Joker, but the difference is that Ledger had hints of being a charismatic and skilled actor well before The Dark Knight. Hartnett has a bunch of wooden performances in teen movies and thrillers.

I want to know who else is up for it, right now, I'm just kinda meh about him. If he gets cast, though, I'll support him and hope Branagh can bring out a great performance.

In my eyes, Josh Hartnett is the late 90's version of Channing Tatum. I'd prefer someone who can, you know, act. :o

I've been a fan of Hartnett ever since Lucky Number Slevin. Damn good movie. 30 Days of Night was also pretty good.

What he said.

I like him, but I think he's a horrible choice for Loki.

Not really. Everyone thinks that Loki should be ugly yet charming but it just don`t work. Watch LOTR with Grima Wormtongue`s scenes. It doesn`t matter how he words his sentances or tries to coerce others, he always looks untrustworthy and nearly every character who isn`t uner a spell doesn`t trust him as far as they can throw him.

Loki in the comics was never protrayed as looking weird and odd. He always just looked like allt he toher asgardians just with a twinkle of evil and a sinsiter grin. Josh Harnett makes sense, he has to look like thor would be lulled into trusting him at points.

I`m not sure how to judge Josh Harnett`s acting abilities but it doesn`t really matter. With Brannagh directing Paris Hilton could be made to act on the same level as an oscar winner.

I think we have a large enough sample size to see that his acting has been lackluster at best. Now, are all his roles coincidentally written to be dull, doubt it. Branagh is being asked to help bring out Josh's best performance to date, all I can say is we'll see.

Well if anyone can do it. Brannagh can.

I like Branagh directing this movie bit I think he's being given way too much credit.

Where did I say that Loki should be ugly? All I said is I think Hartnett would be a terrible choice. That's an awfully long argument for a short personal opinion.

I don't think he has the right look for it, and it has nothing to do with level of attractiveness. He's a good actor, but I'd rather see someone else in the role. I do think that Loki should be fairly good looking, and not with that puppy-dog look that Harnett has.

Yeah, I haven't seen it either. I've got a friend who has a copy and I'm probably going to watch it tomorrow, since it's reportedly the movie that convinced Branagh to get in touch with him for the role.

I've seen it. He was ok in it, from what I remember. I've seen and liked quite a few of his films, but as Corp mentioned, he does tend to have a similar expression and vocal tone in all of them. I think that Loki needs to be very expressive. Oh well, if he is for sure ended up being cast, then we'll just have to wait and see!

I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that Loki should be ugly from. Loki's been ugly all of one time in the comics, in Robert Rodi and Esad Ribic's Loki mini-series. Pretty much everyone else has drawn him as merely a skinny Asgardian with sharp, angular facial features. Not the prettiest guy ever, but not horrendously ugly either.

I think that they could possibly go for an androgynous angle when casting him.
