They both should be treated equally among the media, but I think the difference is that Hagee is already an established moron on the national stage. Wright isn't, as I said before.

I think the media should stop giving these morons a platform from which to spread their hatred. Ingnore and let them fade into the background of past generations. They aren't worth our time anyways, when we have real issues to worry about.

They would be a couple of nobodys if the media didn't sensationalize them.

it does not make him a sell out. If McCain was selling out he'd be gay bashing, the way his base voters want him to.

is he not allowed to make any effort whatsoever to get elected? What world are you living in? He lives in a world of politics, where sometimes you have to do things you don't like. If he believes that the benefits to this country of him being President outweight the negatives of having that endorsement, which he rejected, than that is what he should do.

I'm not even voting for McCain. I'm voting for Obama, but I am happy that for once this election will be between two patriots who actually care about what's good for this world, instead of putting their own personal interests ahead of the world.

Well, I think the point everyone is making is was seeking Hagee's endorsement knowing the guy was a nutcase. It would be like if Wright made all those controversial comments he made, the media made a big deal out of it, and after the fact Obama decided to become chummy with him.

Wright and Hagee still pull in ratings. And the bottom line of any television media program is ratings. I agree with you that the media should stop "feeding the monsters," but the point remains that these monsters only benefit the media outlets.

They are both politicians and I can assure you that they BOTH have personal interests and agendas.

Everybody has personal interests. Even me. I'm about to eat me some CheeseBurger Macaroni, and this decision is based entirely on my own interests.

However they have PROVEN, that their personal interests do not take priority over the good of society. They have their own personal interests, but they put society first and themselves second.

but McCain kind of had to after calling everybody like him "an agent of intolerance." He had to do something to convince republicans he wasn't a liberal.

Neither of them have been elected President yet Spider. A prime example is George W. Bush the candidate, and George W. Bush the President.

But yeah... I wish people would just start talking about policy issues and just completely ignore the religious affiliations either have. I'd vote for a person from any religion (or non-religion for that matter) if they kept their religious beliefs out of their public life and had a platform I believed in. I know not everyone feels that way, but as far as I'm concerned a person's religious beliefs should have nothing to do with how they run the country.

it does not make him a sell out. If McCain was selling out he'd be gay bashing, the way his base voters want him to.

I disagree. He sought out the endorsement of a man who went on record saying that New Orleans deserved to be wiped out because of their "sinful" behavior. He was willing to overlook those comments simply so he could have a hardcore conservative on his side. McCain does not have a consistent social conservative record, yet he won his party's nomination. He didn't need Hagee's endorsement, yet he sought it anyway. That makes him a sell out.

Of course, if we must be honest here, that isn't the only thing which makes him a sell out. McCain was once a member of the Episcopalian faith, yet he came up with the idea to convert to Baptism two years ago. Why would a 70-year-old man decide to just up and convert to Baptism? You can't tell me that wasn't a political move. That, too, proves he's a sell out.

I wouldn't have a problem if McCain was consistent. But he's not. On some days of the week, he's a strict conservative. On other days, he's a maverick. When he's a social conservative, he's willing to stand with Hagee. When he's a maverick, he's willing to stand with Lieberman. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

He's trying to have things both ways. It's not an issue of him trying to get elected. If he wants to get elected, he knows damn well that he doesn't need to pander to social conservatives. He does well with independents. Why doesn't he try to court them? The GOP needs a facelift. He knows this too. The party is relying on him to change their gameplan. Yet he's playing the same old game-- courting the endorsements of psycho-Christian bigots, supporting their same policies, and not being held accountable when one of his supporters (whose endorsement he explicitly sought) says things like "Hitler was a part of God's plan" or "New Orleans deserved to be wiped out because of the gays."

I'm not even voting for McCain. I'm voting for Obama, but I am happy that for once this election will be between two patriots who actually care about what's good for this world, instead of putting their own personal interests ahead of the world.

Hooray

Well, JMan, I think that is where the distinction can be made between McCain and Obama. Obama, to my knowledge, other than that flyer in Kentucky, has never made an effort to play up his religious beliefs which is how it should be. The issue was kind of forced upon him because of Wright, and the Muslim rumor, but you could tell he was not comfortable talking about his religious views. They are a personal matter for him, and I wish most politicians felt that way instead of playing it up like a belief in God is going to make them a better politician. On the other hand McCain sought out the endorsement of a known nutcase to pander to the religious right. In that respect, the more I think about it, the more I am starting to think he's deserving the criticism he's receiving.

Hahahahaha... McCain is rejecting the endorsement of John Hagee...

And Hagee just rejected his endorsement of McCain. Classic.

I guess this means John McCain loses that oh-so-important social conservative bloc :whatever:

So it's something like this (continues from Jag's post):

Hagee: Okay, John. I endorse your candidacy for President.
McCain: NO! I reject your endorsement!!!!!!!
Hagee: Oh yeah? Well, I reject my own endorsement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can only hope. Maybe then the Republican Party can become the Republican Party again, instead of the Christian Coalition Party.

I'm guessing this means Huckabee will be his running mate now, since he lacks social conservative credentials at this point.

Oh dear God, I hope not. Given the fact that John McCain's health is not amazing, and he's getting up there in age, the idea of a President Huckabee absolutely terrifies me.

Actually,I already know. I meant, that something like this would happen.

*hippie hunter goes to the election*"I'm going to vote for John McCain, because I don't believe in Barak Obama. I like how my country is,and the fact that we are in a recession.*hippie votes for McCain*More of the same, that's what I voted for.

*rumbling is heard,hippie looks around*What?

*hundreds and hundreds barge into the election. They all vote for Obama, hippie looks to see his vote, and the thousands to counter it*

*Hippie walks away* I don't like Obama.

Wow...just wow. I'm not even going to dignify that with any proper response.

Like I keep saying, if the GOP wants to push the whole Obama and religion thing, they have way more skeletons to be concerned about than Barack does.

But if the GOP keeps saying that they DON'T have skeletons in the closet enough times...people will believe it, right?
