Not really sure who it would be. I wuld love for it to be Palin, she helps by not only being a woman and getting the lefts attention with that, but that she is pretty good fiscally too. It will get the attention of Hillary supporters and when challenged that she was just picked because she isa woman, I think she can back herself up with no problem.

I can also see Romney being chosen due to his popularity too though.

Well he's also a crackpot ultra-conservative *****e who wants to ban gay marriage and eliminate abortion in all circumstances, including cases of rape and incest. Not to mention he has only been governor of Louisiana for six months, meaning he isn't experienced enough to take over the reigns if/ when McCain croaks.

I would still bet my money on McCain going with Pawlenty. Though I think a woman getting picked might be more likely now if he decides to make a play for the women vote.

If Clinton doesn't get the VP slott I can see McCain getting Palin to grab her demographic. Plus when her credentials get mentioned she can really grab the independent vote as well.

But best of all, Palin is indeed on McCain's VP list, he sent Arthur Culvahouse, the head of McCain's VP search to Alaska to discuss it with her.

Third, like you said, her record is appealing to independents, her 90 % approval rating is unprecedented, and while she can reach out to indies, she can also rally the conservative base. She is very unique in that regard, she can play both sides without coming off as a flip-flopper.

Fourth, it takes away Obama's whole "Crusty old white man vs. change," being as having a young, energetic, female on his ticket will blow that card right out of the water.

And fifth and finally...VPILF!

Couldn't agree more...especially on point 5!

But I'd also like to see her stack up against Hilarry in a VP role just to see how much damage Palin would make against her. It would be refreshing to see a woman in a high profile political position that actually seems energetic, high spirited, and good natured as well as competent. On these fronts (except for competence) I think she is almost the opposite of Clinton and I think it would be refreshing to see for a change, especially for female voters.

In all honesty, I just can't see how any of the other people suspected of being on the "shortlist" trump Palin in any way. From a campaign stand point she is quite possibly the most perfect VP candidate ever.

Probably not. She does pick some horrible names. Those kids are praying McCain chooses her and she wins simply for the secret service protection that will keep them from recieiving wedgies and swirlies at school with names like that.

On a side note, I was unaware that the son born this year was born with Down syndrome. As horrible as it is to say this (but then again, that is politics, saying horrible things behind the scenes)...that has to be a plus in terms of VP-potential. Imagine how that would play out with sympathy voters, a Barbara Walters piece on her dealing with raising a baby with Down syndrome a week before the election. That would be the political equivilant to Elizabeth Edwards dying right before the Iowa caucus. Sympathy votes are always plentiful and it seems like the candidate who has over-come the most hardship gets it. Tortured war-hero and mother raising Down syndrome baby = Sympathy votes en mass.
