I'm sorry to hear that USMC. It's not a bad thing to care about the future's of others though. (Related to you or not.) And judging from your screen name, I would say that you do care. You cannot get anymore dedicated to this country than serving in the military. (I am assuming you have served. Even if you haven't, you obviously have a regard for our armed forces...which again, means that you do care about others.)

I've known people who joined the military out of absolutely no desire to serve their country at all. They joined because they thought it was in their best interest for financial reasons. In fact almost every person I know who joined, joined for that reason.

I've known a couple who even said if they had to choose between dying, and having an atomic bomb dropped on New York, they'd let New York go flat.

Most people in the military are no different, no better, and no worse than anybody else. The overwhelming majority will never see combat, which really makes their job just like everybody else's, a job. You go through the motions, do what your told, and at the end of the week you get a paycheck.

do they deserve support, money, and appreciation for at least taking the risk? yeah they do of course. You don't get something for nothing, and in this case we don't get military protection for nothing.

I'm glad I reread your post, because the first time I read it, I thought you said that most people in the military are no different than your friends.

I am an American, Sparkle, therefore I agree with Americans doing what is necessary when it is warranted toi keep us safe. Obviously I would be against the VC so why would I agree with any of their "rights" **** them. :)

Anyone that believes in fighting fair is usually gonna be the first ones to get their ass kicked.

that's hypocrisy.

Oh yeah I'm by no means saying that. I'm sure most people in the service, and most people in general, would sacrifice their own single life to save millions.

However those few individuals I mentioned are not what my friends are like.

And now McCain has hired Rudy's chief strategist to head up his own campaign. :hehe:

It seems like losers thrive in the political world. McCain hires a chief strategist who destroyed the persumptive nominee (There's gotta be some conspiracy theories there, btw)...Obama hires a man to screen VP candidates whose previous jobs doing this include picking Al Gore's running mate, John Kerry's running mate, and Michael Dukakis' running mate. The man has never picked a successful running mate. Thats what politics is, it is for people who are so incompetent that would've been fired in a real job years ago. :cwink:

Now that I have to agree with. They're quite often either so incompetent or so unethical that the real job market would have pummeled them to death long ago.

I didn't join for love of country, but I am thankful that I learned what it means to be American and to always stand by this nation... I wouldn't trade it for anything.

My my USMC, Whatever happend to you? You used to be one of the most vocal opponents to BushCo. What in the world happend to you to make you even consider voting for McBush?

BTW A few questions forya if you don't mind, You still in California? Why are your kids "No longer in the picture". Does it have something to do with what you told us when you got out of the USMC? If so, I'm so sorry.:csad:

If you don't wish to go over it here then PM me if you want. I'd like to hear what you've been up to since you was last here.

I hate what Bush has done to this great nation in such a short time. He deserves impeachment and a rotten, lonely existence for the rest of his days. I hope he gets everything in this life that he deserves.

That being said, I am still not decided who I will vote for. I'd say chances are very good that it will be Obama.

However, to McCain's credit, I do honestly believe that McCain is trustworthy. I think a person knows where they stand with him. Doesn't mean he makes even remotely the right decisions, of course... nor does it mean his poilicies and ideas are in line with what I am looking for.

I honestly can't say that about Obama (yet). I just don't know how honest he is, that's all. He keeps seeming to find himself in "sticky" situations when it comes to things he's said, things he's done (or haven't done), and people that he associates himself with.

Anyhow, I moved outta California last year... had to get out of that self-absorbed state! I live in Austin, Tx, now. (We call it the blueberry in the tomato soup). It's fantastic, surprisingly liberal, and the people here are extremely genuine. Loving it!!!

As for the rest, shoot me a PM, I'll tell ya all about it. Good to see ya, Supes. :) Hope you and the missus are doing great! :woot:

McCain has an amusing 'caught in a lie' reaction. It's a great mixture of stuttering deer in headlights and passive nonchalant-ness.

"Semi-Contained Panic" kind of sums it up. And, yes, it makes me laugh when he does it, too. I laugh a lot. :)

McCain opening campaign offices in California
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080707/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_california

(At this point, I'm not really surprised. Are you?)

LOL. Wasting your money on a state you have no chance of winning is always a solid plan.

Also, this kind of amused me....

"Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers in America today. And that’s a disgrace. It's an absolute disgrace, and it's got to be fixed."

Nice job McCain. Insult your strongest demographic by basically calling them a bunch of freeloaders.

At this point, it comes off as senile. How his advisors could tell him opening a campaign office in a state he will lose by 30 points is beyond me. Especially when money is so damn tight for him.

I don't understand the logic either guys. Money is obviously going to be an issue with him, and yet his campaign has decided to open offices in Cali genuinely believing that they have a chance. (And given that Arnold is a "Democrat in Republican garb," that doesn't help him much either.)

As for McCain's insult to his strongest demographic...yeah. What an idiot.

I have come to the conclusion that John McCain must not understand the concept of money or the economy.

On the CBS Evening News, John McCain just personally guranteed that he will have the budget balanced by the end of his first term!

:wow:

It can be done. He’s just going to make a lot of massive spending cuts and we all know McCain is a Cutting Hawk. My main problem is that McCain can’t tell the difference between future investment spending and wasteful pork spending. He's going to cut a lot of Science Grants. They may look wasteful but there not damnit:csad:.

The only reason I could see him opening an office here is if he picked Romney as his running mater. Republicans here love that guy for some reason. Even then though, McCain would still be wasting his time.

Top McCain economic advisor addresses 'mental recession'

(Yeah that's right, he said we're not really in a recession...it's all in our heads! Oh yeah, he also said that America has become a "bunch of whiners." :wow: McCain is just surrounding himself with brilliant people, isn't he?

With the exception of San Fran and L.A., I've always figured California to be pretty conservative.

San Diego is anyway...:o

Also, if he does pick Romney he is not going to have to worry about money anymore, so I guess that supports your argument as well.

Most of Southern California is outside Los Angeles.
