I'm sorry to hear that USMC. It's not a bad thing to care about the future's of others though. (Related to you or not.) And judging from your screen name, I would say that you do care. You cannot get anymore dedicated to this country than serving in the military. (I am assuming you have served. Even if you haven't, you obviously have a regard for our armed forces...which again, means that you do care about others.)
I've known people who joined the military out of absolutely no desire to serve their country at all. They joined because they thought it was in their best interest for financial reasons. In fact almost every person I know who joined, joined for that reason.
I've known a couple who even said if they had to choose between dying, and having an atomic bomb dropped on New York, they'd let New York go flat.
Most people in the military are no different, no better, and no worse than anybody else. The overwhelming majority will never see combat, which really makes their job just like everybody else's, a job. You go through the motions, do what your told, and at the end of the week you get a paycheck.
do they deserve support, money, and appreciation for at least taking the risk? yeah they do of course. You don't get something for nothing, and in this case we don't get military protection for nothing.
