You know, people often ask me "why do you care, you're not American" on forums. And I usually answer that I just have an interest in American politics, despite the fact that it doesn't affect me.
But you know, this election WILL effect me and many others worldwide. I thoroughly believe that McCain CANNOT be elected.
McCain through his words and actions has shown himself to be very military minded, and I think that's what comes first with him. It's the last thing America needs. He's supposed to be the foreign policy expert, yet has continiously got confused about where Al Queda gets trained, and he doesn't seem to understand how the different religions of Iraq interact. What was John McCain and Bush's big, bright idea for solving the problems in Iraq? They ignored the advice of the experts and decided to send in more troops in what was called the "surge". People say the surge worked, some even say it won the war. But the surge is only a temporary solution. It's a plaster put over a deadly wound. The point is, McCain is the type of man that thinks of force as a solution first.
His language over Iran, "bomb bomb bomb Iran", when told cigarettes were the biggest export to Iran he said "that's one way to kill them", and in various speeches he's displayed a fair amount of sabre rattling towards Iran and Russia. He thoroughly thinks of Iran as an enemy to be defeated. Now I'm not suggesting that America and Iran are the best of friends, but under McCain you can basically gaurantee you will see another war.
Am I quoting this right? "My friends, I will call on you to serve". Does McCain want to bring in the draft?
McCain is a military man, not a President. A war with Iran, and a new cold war with Russia will adversly affect the rest of the world. Britain seems obsessed with keeping good relations with the US under any circumstances, so its likely that any war the US goes to, Britain will go to too.
Besides the danger of more wars under McCain, there is the fact that he doesn't know much about the economy. He has flat out said so on many occasions, and as recently as earlier this year. There is no mistaking his words. So McCain has no other choice but to let his economic advisors lead him by the hand. One thing he does seem to know about is doing favors for oil companies. Under McCain, further tax breaks for the upper crust of America, tax breaks that millions of homes won't see a penny of.
McCain's voting record shows that he agrees with Bush 95% of the time. In one year, it was 100%. In McCain's words, "that's not change we can believe in".
