I beg to differ my dear Kel. The first mention of Palin in this forum as a VP contender for McCain comes from me way back in February, right after McCain locked it down.

But this is definitely interesting. I thought it was Romney or Pawlenty with Ridge as a dark horse. I look forward to seeing the bump (if any) from this.

IF, Obama had chosen Clinton......no way, she would have been NO HELP to McCain at all, because that 3 pt lead among women that Obama has, would balloon to a 15 to 20 pt. lead, which it should be, EVEN WITHOUT Clinton.......sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, she may help him more than we know.



They just called her family, and they said they found out she was the VP, on TV less than an hour ago.................LMAO...........surprise.


I also think that the Republicans that were all possible pics are going to campaign the hell out of this election, in their states, hitting their demographics......The DNC coming first, VP being picked first, the unity card playing so well first..........I think, has lit a fire, BIG TIME......

Well, AT LEAST this is going to be a hell of an election campaign these last 70 days......holy ****.

With all that said.................................even though I thought she was a possibility a few months ago................................I'm shocked......I really thought that if it was a woman, it would have been one of his CEO choices, or Kay Bailey......Palin was the last on that list of 4.


Another thing she brings besides possible women votes, is a strong energy message.....and apparently the internal polling that has been done has shown the McCain campaign that energy is huge for this election.

Also - I have no problem with Hillary being used more by Obama, Hillary hurts with swing voters.

Interesting choice. She will appeal to the moderately conservative base that would have most likely voted for him anyway, but she won't reel in any independents. It could have a backfire effect and just be perceived as blatant pandering on McCain's part to pick a woman, particularly by independent female voters who were gung-ho for Hillary but unsure about Obama; they'll get a look at Palin's conservative ideals and run away. It'll be interesting to see how this choice affects voters, no doubt about it.

Her pro-life stances could hurt her with the woman vote. Though its not as if all women are adamently pro-choice.

Still, if Obama wants to destroy her credibility, here's the perfect commercial.

"It is 3 am. The phone rings. Where is Sarah Palin? Feeding her new born child Trig Paxon Van Palin...Do you really want a vice-president who would name her kid Trig Paxon?"

Then Palin can come on national TV and beg in response to elect her so she has secret service to protect him from the inevitable grade school wedgies with a name like that.

But seriously...I do wonder, if her child having down syndrome could get her (and through her, McCain) some sympathy votes? It seems bad to talk about, but people vote on stranger issues.

Palin may not be, IMO, as ready to be President - but I think Palin is a strong choice and is every bit as qualified to lead as Obama.

It still completely undercuts every argument McCain has made against Obama regarding his experience. How can he possibly make the experience argument against Obama anymore when the person that is a heart attack away from the Presidency has only been Governor for a year? And to top it off she is facing a State investigation. Sure, she's a woman which may help out with the superficial Clinton voter, but trust me, I'm sure Clinton will immediately come out strongly against Palin which may put out that fire pretty quickly.

Yes, on a superficial level it's an exciting choice, but in the long term this is going to turn out to be a disaster for McCain.

Appealing to disenfranchised Clinton supporters is one reason, jav. But keep in mind, one of the big themes of the Dem Convention was that McCain doesn't care about women and would make a bad president for them. Its kind of hard to say that now. Plus Palin just screams family values and middle class. McCain is being attacked fairly hard on both leaving his crippled wife and the 7 houses. Palin was the daughter of a science teacher, grew up in a middle class family, worked as a fisherwoman...she takes care of the elitist argument. Plus she just screams family and family values with all of her kids, one of whom is serving in Iraq right now (which will be big, to have a mother who has a son in Iraq, saying she stands for the war).

Palin was a great choice for the McCain campaign.

She believes in Global Warming, she has a long record of tackling corruption in Alaska, she has reduced government in costs in Alaska - including her own salary.

Plus the Republican Party has been stereotyped to be the party of old white men - this goes against that image entirely.

I mean for real shes a governor and has a new born of 4 months with ds. Just HOW active will she be able to be with this campaign? I know theyll try to paint her as this working mother who balances family and job, but it really almost seems like a BIZARRE pick, does McCain know what he is picking? Are people going to take her SERIOUSLY as President? I just dont know. I personally dont know enough about her.

Unless moderates are more interested in Biden's foreign policy expertise than Palin, who is, let's face it, a novelty candidate on McCain's part. We'll see how her state investigation that's underway gets used against her.

No, it really doesn't. His argument is that "HE" has more experience than Obama......Obama's choice for VP, IMO, shows that Obama agrees with McCain on that issue.

McCain's choice of VP, shows that "HE" thinks he still has more experience than Obama. But, it shows also, that he understand the "age" issue, the "energy" issue, and the "female" issue...........


NOW, will it work? That is the true question, not the fact that he did something bad to his "readiness to lead" issue. In McCain's eyes, that's not an issue.
