Appealing to disenfranchised Clinton supporters is one reason, jav. But keep in mind, one of the big themes of the Dem Convention was that McCain doesn't care about women and would make a bad president for them. Its kind of hard to say that now. Plus Palin just screams family values and middle class. McCain is being attacked fairly hard on both leaving his crippled wife and the 7 houses. Palin was the daughter of a science teacher, grew up in a middle class family, worked as a fisherwoman...she takes care of the elitist argument. Plus she just screams family and family values with all of her kids, one of whom is serving in Iraq right now (which will be big, to have a mother who has a son in Iraq, saying she stands for the war).

Palin was a great choice for the McCain campaign.

Matt, theyll portray this pick as a simply effect to get voters and to be honest it wont be very hard. Obama will say voters are smart enough to see through it and thatll be it.

It still completely undercuts every argument McCain has made against Obama regarding his experience. How can he possibly make the experience argument against Obama anymore when the person that is a heart attack away from the Presidency has only been Governor for a year? And to top it off she is facing a State investigation. Sure, she's a woman which may help out with the superficial Clinton voter, but trust me, I'm sure Clinton will immediately come out strongly against Palin which may put out that fire pretty quickly.

Yes, on a superficial level it's an exciting choice, but in the long term this is going to turn out to be a disaster for McCain.

She's not running for the top seat though. Unless McCain dies on election day, she will spend at least some time as Vice-President. She has the luxury of on job training in that role and being groomed to take over should something happen. Obama does not. He is in the big chair from day one.

Plus, I'm not sure Obama can get away with attacking her. It might be exactly what McCain wants. Obama was ripped apart by feminists for his "treatment" of Hillary during the primary. He is just starting to recover in the polls. If he does it again...he will drop.

If she's one of those Christian women who believe that men are the leaders of their family and women should do what they are told, she'll be promoting the stereotype.

Just like Kay Bailey... :cmad:

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Well her father is a stay at home dad - if that helps make the argument that is NOT the case.

I am ashamed to admit I did not consider that, a brilliant move

Gotta remember, she might be a chick, but Bidens done more for women than NAYBODY including women in the last 25 years.
I seriously don't know a ton about Biden but how what did he do for women in the last 25 years?

Unless moderates are more interested in Biden's foreign policy expertise than Palin, who is, let's face it, a novelty candidate on McCain's part. We'll see how her state investigation that's underway gets used against her.

I don't think it will go against her.........almost every top executive in the Alaskan government is on her side. They say that she handled the situation, exactly how it should have been handled. She is simply a bear, and her history is littered with people that did not do their job effectively........and were wasteful in their jobs..........this is simply another one of those.

You know damn good and well that she has been "vetted" extensively....probably more so than any VP in history......LOL

Because you're choosing to ignore the 14 years of political experience, including being Mayor for two terms, BEFORE she became governor...

And since November is only two months away, she has been governor for TWO years - not one.

If you think for a second Obama would dare call Palin a token candidate, then you know next to nothing about politics. Every feminist in the country, regardless of her stance on aborton, would tear Obama a new ass hole if he said anything to that effect.

They wont attack her, theyll attack McCain. Theyll treat her like a queen and come off as the bigger man, watch. We just gotta keep Biden from saying she used to be a babe and well be fine.

She's not running for the top seat though.

Your post ended there.

VP to a 72 year old President?

Hillary will bash Palin from the sidelines for just that reason. I can almost hear it, now.

He doesn't need to attack her. I'm sure all of Obama's women surrogates will happily do that job for him. Clinton will be furious at such a superficial attempt to steal her voters, I guarantee.

McCain's mother is 96 and still alive. I fail to see why 72 is considered 'near death' for an incredibly strong man who will probably live to see at least 90.

So if she's got a kid over there and by that time so does Biden, how much of that debate will be on Iraq? Probably not enough.

To be honest I dont think hell even need to say ti to have voters see through this...but seeing as you take literally any piece of news and spin it against Obama, I m not gonna bother to respond.

Not to mention his recent clean bill of health that never gets mentioned.

If she really supports Obama. But she's got to toe the line. Also, she should support Obama.

Oh he'll live. He'll just be like Ron at the end of his reign.

"Last scene of all that ends this strange eventful history, is second childishness, and mere oblivion.

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything."

If he treats her like a queen she gets a free pass. You just said they'll attack her. You're sending mixed signals.

If Hillary wants to. After the convention, where Hillary hit her home run, I expect her to just slide into the shadows, pray for an Obama loss, and start an exploratory committee for 2012, and if anyone blames her she'll say "Hey, did you see my convention speech? I did what I could."

RDH you musta missed her speech a few nights back

Yup and the thing is she CAN. Shes a woman who women voters TRUST. It will simply make McCain and his choice come off as a joke.

The scandal will still be brought up, though. It's a valid point, even if nothing ultimately comes out of it. It still casts doubt on her.

One thing I DO know is that the spin around how both sides handle Palin is going to be extraordinary. Biden will have to take a very different tact in how he handles her in the debates than he would a male candidate, but he's fully capable and congnizant of that I would think. In that respect, McCain's move in choosing Palin is smart because it's no longer just a bunch of boys playing rough; there's a woman in the mix and getting too rough with her could be a negative in voter's eyes. However, if McCain just tries to use her as a shield to take pot shots from behind, that too could backfire on him. This will make the next couple of months extremely interesting to watch, no doubt about it.

There are many......just to give alittle insight......he has probably voted yes to more women's legislation than Clinton has voted on in legislation in total.

The biggest IMO is the VAWA legislation.....Violence Against Women Act.

Women's organizations around the country said that that legislation alone, which is legislation that he crafted was the most important women's legislation in the last 2 decades.

SO.......just sit back, you are about to hear ALL OF BIDEN'S women's advocacy.....lol His debates, ads, speeches etc, will be full of it from now on.:cwink:

What? I'm not spinning anything against Obama. I am saying if he attacks a college educated, experienced, governor of a state as a token candidate, he will get torn apart. Thats not an attack, its fact.
