And if they are armed and decide to shoot back? If it was your family and you saw a couple of kids snooping around your property in the middle of the night, would you take the risk of giving them warning and the opportunity to return fire?
So shoot first and ask questions later? Aiming a gun at someone after you do a warning shot isn't exactly out of this world you know. It is the same as pumping a shotgun. You can send a message without causing any harm. It is that same mentality why we have so many police related shootings. Shoot the person first just encase he has a gun.

To answer your question if I was with my family and saw some kids snooping around my house in the middle of the night I would point the gun at them and tell em to **** off.

first off, the articles didn't mention what time of day the events occurred. second, Rowles knew what they were up to since he thinks that they were the same kids who defaced his previous signs....so he knew what he was doing when he shot towards the kids. it's not as if he saw them pull something out of their coats and aimed it towards him. surely you wouldn't think that some kids stealing signs and shouting Obama's name intend to physically harm you or your family.

you can defend your property successfully while being cautious instead of reckless. any person with common sense knows not to shoot someone until they pose an immediate threat.

Didn't the article say that the guy said they had stolen his sign before, and shouted something about Obama. I doubt he thought they were there to rob or hurt him.

Imagine if he had been killed, and his mother had to go to her son's funeral knowing it was over a chunk of plastic that probably cost $3-5. They were wrong for going on his property, he was wrong for resulting to deadly force over something minor.

I'm all for a house owner defending himself, but it's just a sign, it's not worth a kid's life. Just sayin'. I'm just glad it was just a shot in the arm and no major damage was done. I also hope no one retaliates (either vandalism, or cussing at) the old man either.

Also god forbid sitting and watching them take the sign while writing down the license plate and getting them arrested.

but if I were the guy I would be pretty convinced some kids were going to rape and rob me and my family in the name of Obama so I shot them. I mean its the only logical step.

How do you know he did not feel threatened? He is old, possibly not entirely of his right mind...he sees some teenagers sneaking around his property in the middle of the night...and its not like 30 years ago where teenagers worst crime was putting some flaming dog poop on your front porch, ringing the door bell and running.

First of all, he was 50, which isn't even a senior citizen yet.

Secondly, if he wasn't "entirely of his right mind," the last thing he should have is a gun.

They were vandalizing a sign. Granted, they were idiot punks and certainly should be prosecuted for any crimes they committed. They do not deserve to get shot at. That's ridiculous. Really...are we killing people over yard signs now?

That's a stupid thing to get hurt or killed for...and an even stupider thing to get put in jail for.

Because they were on his property, stealing his property. He has a right to defend it. Do you think if he called 911 they would've got there in time? It is his property. Those kids had no right to be there, and frankly, got what they had coming.

Yes, because shooting someone is such a rational reaction to stealing a $10 sign...

Also, let it be advised that I am a supporter of the right to own firearms; however, I do believe that there are for more rational reactions to cases of petty vandalism than to resort to gun violence. Both sides involved in this should be charged.

Same here, I actually think everyone should get a gun haha. Except semi and automatic weapons seem excessive. I also believe you should be allowed to shoot an intruder who has broken into your home. I do think shooting some kids with clear intentions is excessive and if he had a gun out with him then he probably has been planning this for a while.

Speaking of getting shot, do a google search for "Obama supporter shot". This should prob be in the Obama thread, but it fit in with the current conversation in here.

ATM I'm getting ready for bed, but if someone else wants to post that story go ahead, googling those words gave like 10 links to the story. Apparently tho a man in London was shot 3x for wearing an Obama shirt. I'll let someone else mess with it tho as I'm hitting the shower.

Edit - Sry BTW, seems like all we talk about in these threads anymore are attacks based on political ideology or race. Not trying to keep that running, it's just that that story caught my eye. I'll have to read it in full later.

Just because he was charged, does not mean he is guilty under the definition. A big part will come down to his mens rea and whether a jury of his peers feel that he felt sufficiently threatened to fire a gun. Innocent until proven guitly, Jag.

LOL! He shot a kid at point blank range on his lawn. If the kid was in his house, that'd be one thing and most laws would support that action, but in most states shooting someone on your property but not inside your residence will get your ass in a sling. I wish him best of luck. :hehe:

I must say that it really makes John McCain look even worse when he cancels a rally in Pennsylvania because of the rain...but Barack Obama has no problem speaking at a rally IN THE RAIN.

When did this happen?

Yeah, I saw that story today to. The rain on the plain falls mainly on McCain (or at least on his hotel in this instance :hehe: ).

Barack gotta watch out now, remember what happened to the last President who had no problem speaking in the rain...

William Henry Harrison? I had to google that.

I think McCain has a cold right now. He kept coughing during Meet the Press and another appearance I saw him at but don't remember.. Doesn't help shake that whole "old guy" image he has going for himself.

Then again, we didn't have the same abilities to treat pneumonia in 1841 as we do today :cwink:

He sounded like he did have a bad cold on Meet the Press, so I'm guessing that's why any speaking engagements in the rain couldn't happen.

Nothing good can come of McCain getting wet...or shining a bright light on him, or feeding him past midnight....

McCain is 72. I wouldn't be standing out in the cold rain at 72 years old either.

I'm "only" 54 and I wouldn't do it either. To criticize McCain because he came in out of the rain and Obama didn't is stupid.
