That speech, and the fact that it reminded so many people of the OLD john mccain really underscores how John McCain got swallowed by the RIGHT WING MACHINE.

The moment he was finally "free", the likeable McCain came back.

He sold his soul to try to become president by giving in to the forces he used to oppose. And it just came across very badly.

Leave the scummy tactics to the actual scumbags John.

Was it electing Palin?

Was it the ecomony?

Was it the negative attacks?

Discuss.....

The speech was like when Vader killed the emperor and redeemed himself.

A completely inept campaign....and also alot of Bush's guilty by association...
Frankly, I don't think Palin had much impact.

Sarah Palin for me.

Watching McCain say all the experience argument about Obama then picking her just made me switch my vote.

They screwed a lot up. But I don't think it is so much that as the economy tanking to holy hell.

McCain should of picked Romney as his running mate.

Ya, I have to say the republican campaign seemed very lacking with many things. Also the combination of a bunch of bad things happening from Palin to Economics it just didn't work out for them as well as eight years of them in power. So they are in a way going to pay for it by losing the presidency and maybe a majority of the senate.

They appealed to people's fears.
Obama appealed to their hopes.
Weird that it was the Democrat following the Reagan model.

Nominating McCain. If Mitt Romney were the nominee there is a damn good chance we'd have our first Mormon president-elect instead of first black president-elect.

I agree optimistic campaigns tends to trump over pessimistic campaigns. The economic hell is what got Obama the win. The expectation now is for him to FIX IT. Anything less is unacceptable.

A lot of the baggage this campaign had to deal with can be attributed to being the 'de facto' nominee.

Also the McCain campaign seemed to be doing some backwards strategies and weren't taking precautions that they should have been.

1. The economic financial crisis

2. Association with George W. Bush.

Well alot of it was just Bush association. Oh and McCain. Romney/Palin 08!

I think the idea the Bush association contributed much is silly. Yes it did to some degree but it's the economy. If it was Romney and not McCain, the results would have been very very different.

Every time i turned on the news, LOCAL all i heard was him bashing McCain for his Bush like nature! It had a HUGE impact.

Just the pure nastiness. I usually root for the underdog but when the underdog goes the dirty route, forget about it. Once he selected Palin as his running mate seemed a grasp at desperation and a bit insulting to think women are going to vote purely on the fact that he has a woman in the VP position. Plus, McCain seems so angry, there's a chip on that man's shoulder and I don't want him representing my country as an "angry American".

Lets be honest, if Obama kept saying Romney is Bush 2.0 in the current economic climate, does anyone honestly think the results would be more or less the same as the current ones?
