Batman '89 The Michael Keaton Appreciation Thread

"Multiplicity" is also another hilarious Keaton flick.

very fun nice little film, showing he can display a wide range of characters which are all likeable, only on TV a few days ago but I missed it :(

There are a number of great Keaton movies. My favorites:

-The Paper
-Batman
-Beetlejuice
-Live From Baghdad
-Much Ado About Nothing (he steals the show from all the Shakespearian actors in this)
-Batman Returns
-The Late Shift
-Mr. Mom
-Jackie Brown

A terrific and underrated actor.

Michael Keaton on his own films: “‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Batman,’ I like a lot. I tend to remember things from movies instead of the movie. So there’s moments in a lot of movies… But I like ‘Clean and Sober.’ I love ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ A lot about ‘The Paper’ I really liked. I liked ‘Live from Baghdad.’ I like ‘Beetlejuice’ a lot. I like ‘Gung Ho.’ Oh, I love ‘Mr. Mom.’ I really do love that. I like what it became. I like that we worked so hard and it was this nice little movie. Honestly, it was a little American classic. A little gem classic.”

He did a small film he directed & stared in called The Merry Gentleman which was shown at Sundance & had positive reviews but no release date yet, he also just finished doing the animated film Noah's Ark: The New Beginning which is out some time in 2008.

I miss Keaton doing big films like he used to, I think he could make a comeback!

My Life is still one of the few movies that chokes me up.

Blasphemy, plus little hint this is the "Michael Keaton Appreciation Thread", plus how can he seriously be worse than George Clooney's portrayal.

The Alfred/Bruce scenes from Clooney alone are better than all Keaton Bruce Wayne scenes. His Batman sucked though.

....Okay....anyway this isn't a thread to put down, bash, criticize, compare, or be negative towards Keaton, only appreciation for Keaton should be shown in this thread, there are countless threads around were you can put down Keaton as much as you like but this ain't one of them :whatever:.

His Batman set the standard forever. That said Clooney himself knows and admitted how bad he was.

Every Batman fan must admit that the Alfred/Bruce scenes in B&R are the strongest interactions between them ever. Nothing comes close and it really feels like the comic book Bruce Wayne. As much as the other things sucked, that was really great.

Keaton however could not set any standard, because he didn't play Batman, he played a Asperger syndrome-suffering madman who thinks of himself as a bat (exception: sometimes he mistakes himself for someone else).

I know, Bruce Wayne in the Burton films just SCREAMED high-functioning autism. You ever notice how he could hardly look people in the eyes? I mean the guy had no SOCIAL SKILLS whatsoever.

And he was so fixated on being Batman, and obsessions are a sympton of Asperger's Syndrome.

Bruce Wayne should've never been so obsessed in B'89 with his role as a vigilante. It makes him out to be a madman, and that just isn't Batman.

Hmm... on second thought, maybe his odd social behavior had something to do with...

Being TRAUMATIZED at watching his parents being shot in front of him as a child.

Naaaw. That's too much of a stretch. Nevermind.

bale was stuck up idiot. i dont remember bruce wayne ever being that snobby, not even from the comics. sure its an act, but keatons bruce wayne is like how i would imagine the REAL bruce wayne to be, not that great socially, a little akward. i mean, a guy who dresses as a bat would NEVER have the suave confidence bale has.

I agree. Mastering countless martial arts, and then utilizing them every night to consistently win against criminals probably wouldn't give you any sort of confidence.

BTAS often portrayed Bruce Wayne as socially awkward.

I think Keaton is the second best Bruce Wayne. The only thing that detracted from him was the hair in my opinion and the fact he didn't look that young, I think Christian Bale is perfect as Bruce Wayne. But Keaton was still very very good.

What I liked most about Keaton was actually his confidence when he was Batman. Keaton's Batman never doubted himself. He never had any moments where he would wonder if it was a bad idea or if he should quit being Batman.

now THATS why keatons batman is, to me, THE batman. bale i understand is starting out, but he goofed up alot, and he'd get caught in these like little dramas of "should i or should i not?" "to be or not to be?" while keatons batman would just shove some dude in a hole and let him blow up. keatons batman had no rules, which nowadays, i kinda like. him and ledgers joker would have a ball, lol, cuz they both have no rules.

different preferences i guess, i always liked batman when hes older, more edgy and not so moralisitic.
