The most DISTURBING movie/s you've ever seen THREAD.

This is what i'm talking about, if a movie has ever 'haunted' you, it tells me that you have led a pretty uneventful life, you probably live it vicariously for the most part.
I've had far too much crazy sh** happen to me in reality for any kind of fiction to have that kind of effect on me.
and I'm not haunted by anything that has happened to me in real life either.
I'm strong like that.

So maybe you should stop assuming details about the lives about the people posting on this thread?

And maybe your definition of disturbing is different from the way someone else defines disturbing. I don't consider a film disturbing because it "haunts me years later". I consider it disturbing if it does something that disgusts me. The film PINK FLAMINGOS that I mentioned has several scenes that are not fiction (especially one that HopefulSuicide made note of earlier).

As for the other posters...if they say there are works of fiction that haunt or disturb or disgust them...I say good. I feel it is better to be able to show empathy for the situations of others than to be numb and uncaring.

Inside, for me, screwed me up for a good second. The damn French....

There's a British film called Threads that was released in the 80s that depicted a really, really realistic take on a nuclear bomb going off in the centre of England.

Spoiler: It's bad - really bad. Society hits rock bottom and just starts to dig, and it just doesn't get better, the thing that made it so disturbing was knowing that it could happen in real life.

In order off the top of my head:

Perfect Blue
Deep Red
Psycho
Singapore Sling
Audition
Lady in a Cage
Event Horizon
Phenomena
Prince of Darkness
The Devil's Rejects
Contact [terrifying in a cosmic way]
Suspiria
Society
Antichrist
Cannibal Holocaust
The Phantom [shut up that microscope scene scared the sh-- out of me]

Hmm I can't think of an entire movie that has completely disturbed me. I can think of disturbing moments within a film (the most recent one being the rape scene in deliverance) but i tend to avoid films like Antichrist or 120 Days of Sodom where there is a constant barrage of disturbing imagery. I honestly don't see the point of subjecting myself to something that will most likely make me:barf::funny:. But that's just me.

I loved Perfect Blue! It always kept me guessing the first time I watched that!

And Devil's Rejects....I was gonna mention that one as well. Quite a few disturbing scenes, but what they did to that husband and wife....yeah. That was bad.

Fire in the Sky. I never feared the concept of alien abduction before I saw that movie. Now it ranks pretty high.

I always say how uncanny valley doesn't affect me, but that's not entirely true with this film. Kon purposefully animated the villain at the end with uncanny valley traits to unsettle the viewer if they looked at the villain's face. It definitely worked on me. Perfect Blue has been very unfairly judged by critics for bigoted, anti-anime reasons when it really does easily rank up there with Hitchcock and Argento in terms of not only a great film with a great mystery, but also as one of the most unsettling films you will ever watch.

I've never been disturbed by any movie. My Mother tells me it's because I don't have a soul.

Everyone watch out! We have a badass on these boards! Thank-you for taking time out of your "badass" life to come to a superhero message board to enlightnen some of us uneventful lames. One day I can only dream to be the badass you are.

Anyways:
Silence of the Lambs - The scene where Buffalo bill is dancing. yuck
Seven - Description of the lust death had me squirming for weeks and I dont even have a vajayjay
Last King of Scotland - The image of Kay Amin's body stayed with me for days.

The others listed, (Martyrs, A Serbian Film) having read the reviews and synopses on IMDB make CH sound like a walk in the park. They have been referred to a torture porn. I'm not sure I want to see them. I did see Saws I-V and both Hostels. None of these movies haunted me.

With Martyrs, the bulk of the film is kind of 'torture porn' as you said, but it's that final scene that makes it disturbing... just look that up on youtube.

That is the most ridiculous opinion i've ever seen anyone have.

FYI I have not lead an uneventful life.

However, I haven't even seen somebody flayed alive in real life, and i've never watched a young boy have a tyre placed around his neck, petrol poured on and then his head set on fire in real life either.

I watched those things unfold before me on a screen, and due to my level of empathy and imagination (of which you apparently have none, as you don't in any way emotionally connect to a horror film), I am disturbed.

There is absolutely NOTHING weak about that, and absolutely nothing STRONG about having no reaction to it.

You don't flinch during a film when a little boys head is set on fire?

Well done :applaud

Personally i'd be worried if that DIDN'T bother me.

Isn't that just a normal Wednesday in New York City?

:hehe: I have no idea, I'm in England.

Definitely making me wanna test this theory tho :)

Let's get back on topic, everyone...

Another disturbing movie: The Road (although the book was worse)

From the creepy/disturbing TV movie category: The Day After

Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 right now.

Mirrors: The scene where that girl is taking a bath in the bathtub & rips her jaw & half her face off. YIKES!!!:wow:

The Exorcist: The entire scene where the priest is trying to perform an exorcism is unsettling.

I have the Human Centipede but haven't watched it yet. I Spit of Your Grave remake was the most disturbing flick i'd seen until i saw Martyrs. Disturbing as in, keeps you thinking about it days after you've watched it. The movie Inside is another one. The Europeans have pretty much got the market covered when it comes to the twist human psyche.

Well they have been at it a lot longer than we have.

I agree that The Road was pretty disturbing.

I have to agree with Requiem for a Dream. It just depressed the **** out of me, especially the parts with the mother, who just wanted to look pretty on television.

Also, the end of Night of the Locusts. I actually read the book in college, before having seen the movie, so I was fairly prepared, but that scene is just nuts.

society, the ending is ****ed up

the human centipede was one i never got the hype for, i watched and all i could think was this caused so much controversy, really?

August Underground. Feels like you're watching actual crimes caught on tape.

The first film isn't all that disturbing, what you see on screen is covered up by bandages. Most people say it's disturbing because it's all in your head.

Grave of the Fireflies
Perfect Blue
The Tingler
The Human Centipede (never again)
Fire in the Sky
The Fourth Kind
Altered States
Paranormal Activity

Bug unsettled me and my wife probably more then any other film ever. Great film.
