The Most Phoned-In Performances of All Time

Die Hard 5 had massive logic problems...just for the little things..

For example:

I just didn't understand how McClaine just punched that innocent Russian guy in the face only to steal his truck. If he was in New York, McClaine would've been like "Sorry gotta take this" if he were in the same situation. Here in Mother Russia, he just straights up punches him. The Russian guy had every right to be mad at McClaine too. Xenaphobia to the extreme!

Perhaps Bruce should take his own good advice.

Wow! most of these I disagree and liked the performances. I'll definitely agree with Brando in Superman, Portman in Star Wars, Malkovich in warm bodies. Most of the others either just no or I haven't seen them

Nice. I also forgot his minor role in The Gift.

Keanu was BRILLIANT in The Gift. Excellent movie; probably Raimi's best film, IMO. He even got a great performance out of Katie Holmes. That's hard to do!

I too feel like RDJ was off his 'Tony Stark' game in IM3. He didn't hit his usual marks for some reason and yeah, it felt like RDJ was getting tired of the role.

Yes I completely agree with the two above. Compare the scene in IM1 where Stark is on the roof with Staines and Pepper has to blow the reactor (Stark looks like he is just to about to blow in to tears) to all of IM3. It just doesn't compare IMO.

Well anyways, lets just hope he's good in Avengers 2 and 3.

Olivia Thirlby - Dredd

I'm normally a fan of Olivia's work; but her performance in that film just felt so disengaged to me; like she just learned her lines five minutes before they turned the camera on. Maybe sci-fi action films just aren't her thing, I don't know.

She seemed uncomfortable in the role. Though she did fine in my book.

I wouldnt call her performance phoned in, maybe just not completely comfortable in the role, I would be fine if she returned in a sequel.

Wasn't the point of her character to be an inexperienced field rookie, trying to prove her worth? I thought her performance was fine.

Well, in the way where she was actually uncomfortable, not acting uncomfortable.

Ben Kingsly in IM3

I don't see how he phoned it in. I thought he was great and maybe what I think of as "phoned in" is different than others because phoned in for me basically means they are playing themselves. I could be wrong on that though.

From the interviews I've seen of him in the past, he didn't seem like his dual characters/identities in IM3 at all.

The first two that came to mind: Mark Wahlberg in Planet of the Apes and George Clooney in Batman & Robin.

If you look into anything regarding the history of the film, Franco wasn't there for the paycheck. The guys loves the books by L. Frank Baum and he loves working with Sam Raimi. One of the features on the blu-ray is even his video journal of working on it. You can say whatever you want about the performance, but he didn't do it for the paycheck.

That might be true, but the guy looked like a C- drama student who was stoned all the time.

i would add Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code. and everyone else in the The Da Vinci Code, too.

what a bore of a movie.

I'll totally agree with Hanks, but I actually think McKellen was enjoying himself in The Da Vinci Code. He definitely likes bashing the Catholic Church, onscreen and off.

Yeah, Indy 4 had some problems, but Ford was NOT one of them. I haven't seen him enjoy himself in a role so much in years. Ben Kingsley gave TWO fantastic performances playing TWO completely different characters in IM 3. Now if you want a truly phoned in Kingsley performance, Bloodrayne would certainly qualify. Michael Madsen was phoning it in there as well.

Nice reference, Eddie Dean.

Ford did indeed do a great job and he was having fun. Plus, the movie in my opinion was actually good, nothing great or anything, but just good.
