The Most Visually Stunning Shots of 2012?

Prometheus and the Life of Pi

I've been trying to find actual clips or gifs from this scene from Paranorman but haven't been able to find them. This section of the film has some insane stop motion work. While one would assume that they would just resort to CG when having a ghost character made of electrical energy, they actually made transparent, back lit puppets and resin lighting bolts. They even did stop motion animation smears.

The whole movie is a trip full of great, off kilter visuals. Great work.

I have two from Batman that just stood out for me. They're not the absolute greatest of the year, just the first 2 that popped in my head. The first is when Batman is looking at the iPad with the helicopter light on him, it just makes the whole scene feel epic and real especially on iMax. Secondly, during the final Chase there's a quick shot of The Bat flying over a building with the missiles chasing it and it feels so heavy as it struggles to get over the building. By far the best cg aircraft I've ever seen. Never do they feel as heavy as they should but that movie made The Bat feel very real.

The one shot that I will probably remember longest from this year is from Lincoln where he is leaving the White House for the last time. I love that shot.

^ I wish the movie ended there. Everything else just seems superfluous.

Richard Parker swimming and later looking at the boy from the water.

Some of the shots in Prometheus take the cake for me.

I and Samuel L. Jackson agree with you (look up SLJ's quote on that). It was a more dramatically charged ending what came after kinda took the magic away from it. That scene was like the audience's farewell moment.

While The Master takes the cake for best cinematography as a whole, the single shot of Batman on the Batpod, driving towards the cops just before turning into the alley was my personal favorite of the year. While the composition wasn't anything specifically unique, just the scope and grandeur of the shot paired with the swelling score sent chills up my spine.

It's gotta be Prometheus man. The opening landscape stuff, the whole interior of the Engineer space ship. The crashing Juggernaut.

Oh and the most visually stunning shot in TDKR is one single frame in the stock market scene -- where I'm taking center stage! Now THAT wasn't only a great shot, it was also a snapshot of a really important day in my life.

What're you on about mate?

I pretty much liked everything in Skyfall once the film reached the Skyfall estate and grounds.

The scene where Gordon is brought before Bane in the sewers. The angle shooting made Tom look like a beast.

The scene in TDKR when Folley steps up to lead the police against Bane's army. One tumbler slowly rolls forward; two roar in from the side. "Disperse! Disperse or be fired upon!"

"There's only one police in this town." Cue the chant.

Finally; Captain Stacey's death scene.

I was an extra in The Dark Knight Rises and somehow got the middle of the screen for about five seconds give or take.

As said, my favorite shot for the year -- seeing myself for that single shot on IMAX screens.

There's a a great shot in Django Unchained that really grabbed me when I saw it. At the end of the KKK scene, Django fires on a member as he's getting away on his horse. The camera focuses on the horse, which ends up stained red by blood, and follows the horse as the guy is flung off the horse. Something about the way it was filmed really stuck with me.

Pretty much all of The Master.

Pretty much anything in Skyfall when it's taking place in Shanghai deserves a mention

The shot when Django kills Butch in DU and the whole Candieland shootout in general.

Pretty much every shot of Life of Pi.
