That Zaslav once considered giving Todd input on even more DC IP is both amusing and a little scary right now.

Sorting out DC remains a major challenge for Zaslav. Sources say he has asked Todd Phillips, the multihyphenate who created dark 2019 billion-dollar grosser Joker, to do more in the DC universe, potentially acting as an advisor though he will not serve in an executive capacity. A knowledgeable source says Phillips and Zaslav have discovered a rapport, though Phillips is not an expert on the broader DC universe. While at Disney-owned Marvel, chief creative officer Kevin Feige oversees film, television animation and publishing, there has been no single voice guiding DC. (DC chief Hamada oversees the film universe based on the company’s characters, including its HBO Max spinoffs.) DC’s properties are only loosely connected — and sometimes take place in entirely separate universes, such as the Oscar-winning Joker and Matt Reeves’ The Batman, released in March.

What a disaster that could have been. All disasters are possible when you have someone with so little clue about the genre as Zaslav in charge.

Ledger will probably always be at the top for me. I still love Nicholson's Joker and he's a good representation of the Bronze Age version of the character but there's too much Jack in the performance to the point where it's distracting at times, but you can really say that about most of the Burton/Schumacher villains with the exception of Catwoman, Penguin and Poison Ivy. I will say that, for obvious reasons, he still feels more like The Joker than Jim Carrey did with The Riddler or Arnold with Mr. Freeze.

All that said and done, I really think the only "definitive" on screen Joker is Mark Hamill, and the same goes for Kevin Conroy as Batman.

I'm talking more BTAS in that regard and I kind of cherry pick projects that Conroy and Hamill were in after the fact, like the Arkham games or The Killing Joke (AFTER the whole Batgirl thing at the beginning of course ).

Oof, I forgot about Miller’s Girl. I didn’t see it (even though I love but actors) but premise seemed nauseating to me.

I’m sure Rebel Moon 2 was worse than everything but I don’t think there were any expectations for that one, lol.

I didn't see either movie. Borderlands I still think it worst movie I saw this year. But Joker 2 and Megalopolis are 2nd and 3rd respectively. I guess Joker 2 I would call worse solely cause it's a cynical cash grab, while Megalopolis at least was a passion project. Even if it ended up a disaster

I started watching Agatha All Along after resubscribing to Disney+ and Hulu. I'm two episodes in and enjoying it so far but I opted for the cheaper bundle with ads this time and I gotta say the ads on D+ are torture. They keep playing ads for Agatha while I'm already watching it.

You know what the irony is with this Joker disaster? I'll be any amount of money Phillips himself has been spending this weekend laughing his ass off and enjoying the failure of this thing and how he managed to successfully con WBD.

Imagine in 2020 someone would have said that the sequels to Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Joker would all be disasters and that none of the actors would again have a solo feature for their characters.

I never expected Joker 2 to make anything even remotely close to the first one and I've argued about it here a few times. The first one was a lightning in a bottle, it took everyone by surprise, it was fresh for the genre and one of those things where it's very difficult to replicate its success. The second never had a chance to make a billion, especially ever since they announced it would be a musical. It was also kind of obvious that it would be a forced cash grab from the beginning and with a director like Todd Phillips that was bound to somehow reflect in its overall quality.

However, I was expecting something close to 500 million, not a disaster of this magnitude.

Not because I dont think it wasnt a good movie, but because who wants to go see a downbeat, depressing, Martin Scorcese Joker drama with very little action over and over again? Its just not the kind of movie you rally your friends and family to and watch on repeat. And yet it did.

Its just not the kind of movie you rally your friends and family to and watch on repeat. And yet it did.

It's funny because I was thinking that Joker 2 is in many ways anti-Joker if you compare it to the previous film.

One thing is the whole reason the movies exist in the first place. In Joker it was Phillips (and I guess Scorsese and Phoenix) who approached WB to develop an idea they had into a film, yet in the second one it was the studio that had to convince Phillips and Phoenix to make another one.

Also everyone expected the first film to suck due to the concept alone (myself included) and it surprised people positively, while most expected the sequel to be of similar quality, yet it surprised people negatively.

The first one had extreme hype and everyone was talking about it before it even came out. No one was really talking much about Folie a Deux these last few days before release.

The most ironic part is that the first movie managed to appeal to an astonishing amount of people, not only outside of fandom, but people who don't even watch movies all that much. And in the second one not even fans are attending.

Really polar opposites in so many ways.

In one day I have managed to watch the final 2 episodes of season 2 of House of the Dragon, and finally started the Penguin.

It's been a good TV day.
