I thought Joker would see some form of decline from movie 1 to movie 2. But much like what happened with The Marvels, I never expected the decline to be anywhere near as steep as it turned out to be

Yet unlike Joker 2 I though The Marvels was a better movie than the first

So just goes to show certain movies hit at just the right time to make a splash, but won't necessarily be able to repeat that success

Once again I struck out with my box office predictions :oldrazz:

I honestly thought adding Gaga to the mix would guarantee some healthy numbers for Folie à Deux. Maybe not Joker numbers but definitely better than Morbius!

In fact, at the start of this year I thought Joker 2 and Deadpool/Wolverine might both finish in the same box office neighbourhood. Shows how much I know! To be fair I didn't expect the first Joker to do a billion either...

I don't think any of us thought Joker 2 was going to crash and burn like this, even those of us who were rooting against it.

What pops into my head any time Victor does anything for Oz in The Penguin:

I have a little break from work for a few days coming after Wednesday, but damn, I have SO much TV to catch up on.

The last 2 episodes of both Charmed All Along and The Sopenguin, then there's Ryan Murphy with Grotesquerie and Aaron Hernandez, and that Netflix Menendez Bros follow up special...

Tell me about it, I'm actually caught up with Agatha but it's so difficult to pay attention with Aubrey Plaza parading around looking like that. :o

Down boy. But I feel you.

Supposed to be taking myself to see Joker & Gaga today too. I may be busy, but I always have time for infamy. :sneeze:

I'm only watching Penguin (couldn't imagine it being any better right now) and Agatha (quite disappointed so far but hopefully picks up with the episodes I haven't seen) at the moment. Looks like I can squeeze in old films and a few shows during runs and it's been well worth finding a way to watch Penguin live. The Reeves-verse has started so well, even though I'm excited for the DCU and really want it do well, I could have done with it starting later to allow the Reeves-verse time to prove it deserves to hang around for a long time regardless of other plans.

So, my friends, what happens to Harley Quinn on film now? The character has had such a up and down history at the box office so far with no film being a clear winner.

Suicide Squad: Made a lot of money but critically destroyed. Also, I feel like the general audience kind of hate watched this movie because i dont know anyone in real life that actually calls this a "good" movie.

Birds of Prey: Much better with critics but audiences kind of scracthed their heads at it and it flopped.

The Suicide Squad: MUCH higher critical and fan reception but i do not think general audiences knew what the Heck this movie was and it absolutely tanked (and yes, covid was a factor). I think the movie was just too weird and niche for general audiences to want to see honestly.

Folie a Deuces: Everyone and their mother just straight up spit this out.

So what does WBD do with this character going forward? I DO believe the general audience is waiting for a GREAT movie starring Harley Quinn that hits the four quadrants but they just cant crack the code.

I don't think TSS & Joker will do all that much damage as most of the GA won't see it or even know she's a significant part of it (actually with Joker sounds like not so much ( ) ). I think the character will explode one day, even if not soon. So far we haven't had the right performance in the right film. A BoP or TSS performance in a commercial hit will see her become very popular IMO.

I said it in this thread the other week: I don't think Harley Quinn is going anywhere BUT she'll only be utilized as a supporting player in the DCU Batman movies, possibly with Margot Robbie returning. I suppose there's always the chance they introduce her in the Reevesverse as well but I have a feeling Joker is going to be used more sparingly there, at least for now. I don't think they're in a rush to bring Harley into the fold.

I feel like that every day. Too much good content out there right now. :p

I think Birds of Prey would've been fine without the R rating. Not billion dollar fine, but still perfectly respectable. It had the fun factor, but not the fun factor audiences (many of whom weren't allowed to see it, or chose not to because of gore factor). And it didn't have the R rated audiences, either, because it really didn't do anything to earn the R rating or make it worth having. You could eliminate every single bit of blood and gore and still have pretty much exactly the same movie. Only more successful. Something in that vein could still easily be a real hit someday.

Also, TSS was aggressively niche and basically made audiences think 'this movie is only for major comic book nerds', but the original Suicide Squad was a perfectly solid concept that I think general audiences did appreciate. It just wasn't that good of a movie. Do that, but better made, and it would also be fine.

But for now, she's probably going to be a background player for a while, as far as movies are concerned.
