The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I read the alleged leak for Kang Dynasty, and I aint gonna lie it actually sounded kind of awesome. So I am a bit sad it's not happening now and instead we are getting....this lame as hell and super rushed Doctor Doom thing.
I had been looking forward to the Kang storyline a lot. Would have been good to see Marvel get one of their big villains right after doing well by Thanos and not so well by Ultron. Great intro in Loki season 1 and the general storyline was interesting in season 2 (even if Timely was over the top) but then a big disappointment in Quantumania.

I think they’ve missed a trick and could have salvaged/reinvented Kang with his next appearance. There was plenty of time for Doom to dominate the next few phases after that. I don’t get this RDJ as Doom decision and am holding out hope we get an RDJ Stark variant (evil or otherwise) as well, as that will get the GA back for sure and they will then properly experience the new characters together and hopefully give them a chance for the future.

I also thought it sounded pretty cool. I wonder why they didn’t recast Kang when they did the same with Banner, Ross, Rhodes, and a bunch of other characters.
Between Quantumania being much less than well received on top of the Majors drama, it was an easier decision for them to sweep Kang under the rug entirely, though I fully disagree with that decision.

Oh, boy. Seems like this'll very very drama heavy.
It was always gonna be. X-Men 97 was a successful show and Beau here wants go avoid cancelation. So he was always going to lawyer up and do his PR thing. Likewise, Disney and Marvel are gonna leak as much bad stuff he did as they can to discredit him. Just how this all plays out publicly

I haven’t seen any update. Are you still alive?

Food poisoning is no joke. I’ve had it a few times. First time was with Papa John’s in high school. I actually had hallucinations. My mother later told me that I was yelling “tell that doctor over there that I will walk again! I’ll show you all! I WILL WALK AGAIN!”

Of course, there was no doctor in the room.
And no one was saying that I’d never walk again.

I think I’m on the mend, but man, it made you hallucinate and it had me rethinking all of my life’s choices up until this point.

I better have the six pack I had in college with the way I’ve been using the bathroom this week. :csad:

It’s really unfortunate that a significant amount of great creatives are this toxic. His work can’t be denied, but man…… professionalism and decency, folks. It’s not difficult.
It amazes me the stuff these people do. Like, sending nudes or risqué pics to your coworkers and stuff, come on! I would be more understanding if it was a matter of people saying dude yelled a lot or something cause I have been on sets and fights happen. Frequently. But it's another thing when it becomes crap like this, and yet so many people do it. Just....ugh

It’s really not difficult at all.

I mean you do your thing on your own time with consenting people. When the hell will people ever learn that?

And then on top of that, him being black and in this business, I just wanna…

He should’ve known better.

Sending nudes also leaves a long paper trail which makes it incredibly easy to get caught.

A shame talent can’t be distilled into the decent people who can control themselves. Anyway, need less tolerance for this in the first place and the consequences experienced by the likes of Majors will hopefully at least get those with ambition thinking.

Such a shame and leaves a bad taste in the mouth from a show that brought so much goodness and made us X-Men fans so happy for the first time in a while. Depressing.

And my beef with Marvel in terms of 97, why bring on a writer from a lackluster show the likes of What If for a show on the level of 97?

This whole thing is just a travesty.

The show was great, but there are many ways to make X-Men work well looking back at many top comic runs and historical combinations of characters that had strong chemistry. There are other talented people out there and when it comes to the MCU films, at least we won’t have Rothman pulling the rug out from everything last minute. The franchise was fighting an uphill battle with Fox execs and it’s a surprise we got as many decent / good films as we did, amongst the full sabotage jobs.

I recently decided to finish the last 6 episodes I didn't watch. What If has some good episodes. I liked the Kahhori episode, the 1602 one, and the finale. Problem is, too many episodes (I would say half or more) are just essentially rehashing one of the movies, but slightly altered and rushed. It's just not worth sitting through 6 episodes of meh to watch 3 pretty good ones. I think the show really should have focused more on unique scenarios. Cut out all the Movie X but different ones entirely

That and not have a stock animation style that just sucks

And the sad part is, while I enjoyed the Kahhori and 1602 episodes also, Chauncey wasn’t the one to write those. I don’t remember the finale, I gotta rewatch but he did handle that one.

It’s just there are some particular beats and tones that I know Chauncey can’t hit that only a black writer could.

No way in hell he could give us something as epic as “Milky Way Ghetto” or two POC characters having disagreements about “trusting those” in Washington.

But we just gotta see what he brings.
