And I will disagree with Darth slightly in that I expect all 3 July flicks to land in roughly the same ballpark, and F4 could even do better than Superman, but I still agree with his general premise. The “naysayers” here have almost entirely been people simply pushing back on how bullish others have been on F4’s prospects due to how “important” they are to Marvel. That’s a narrative that’s just not held water to me, yet it’s been some folks’ mantra here for the last few years (since the day Marvel got back the rights honestly). I’m sure the movie will do fine, but I just don’t see it landing anywhere near “major Marvel event” territory. 🤷‍♀️

That’s fine, all Fantastic Four needs to be is successful and a good movie, which it looks like it will be. I don’t believe Superman needs to make Deadpool & Wolverine numbers either. I’m just saying if Superman seems unlikely to do that, I definitely wouldn’t expect Fantastic Four to. I think Fantastic Four will be successful and do pretty well overall, since it looks like it’s shaping up to be a really good film. It definitely doesn’t look “meh” by any stretch of the imagination, at least in my opinion. But of course, we’ll have to wait and see how it performs. Either way, I’m seeing both Superman and Fantastic Four day one.
The Silver Surfer's design is the dictionary definition of "meh".

And if the Reddit leaks are true, so is Superman's Gunn reboot, but we watch and don't judge. :o
I judge everything.

How would you improve it? I'm kinda thinking they'd have been better off ditching the hair, even if it's inaccurate to Shalla Bal Surfer in the comics. At least it would have been less taxing on the VFX artists.
I wouldn't of tried to integrate Garner's face. A big part of the Surfer's look is the almost blank nature of it. I would've done the hair but got wild with it. Instead it just looks like she's she's trying to revive the wet look. :funny:

The conversation about F4's box office has been folks bein bullish that it will break the general trend of new MCU IPs because the F4 are a big deal. I disagree with that. Do I think it will bomb? No. Do I think it will break 600m? I'm not so sure. MCU has been struggling with non-sequel features for a little while now. I definitely don't expect it to beat JW or Superman anymore.

That’s fine, I guess I just see it differently. While the MCU has had struggles with some non sequels, Shang Chi made $432 million during COVID times, so I expect Fantastic Four will clear $600 million. And then some. As long as the film is good, it has enough going for it to reach those numbers. I don’t think the non sequel struggles really matter for Fantastic Four in this case.

Just like how the DCEU has struggled for far longer, and honestly, Superman’s shaky track record in his last few film appearances, doesn’t matter much either, in my opinion. I still expect James Gunn’s Superman to do very well. Probably crossing $700–800 million, maybe even higher depending on how good it is. The potential is there.

As for Fantastic Four vs Superman, in my opinion, it was never a serious comparison. It shouldn’t even be a debate, it should obviously be Superman. Sure the DCEU has struggled, but this is Superman, and James Gunn has never made a bad comic book movie. Most of his films are really well liked, and if he delivers for Superman the way he has with past characters, it will definitely crossing $700–800 million, possibly more.

Now, that doesn’t speak to whether Superman will be the best, quality-wise of all the comic book movies this year. That’s more debatable, but box office? Nah it’s Superman no debate.

If anything, I think Jurassic World Rebirth might end up being the biggest film of all three, but when it comes to comic book movies, it was always Superman’s year to lose. That’s why the Superman vs Fantastic Four box office debate always seemed a little off to me. But yeah we’ll see.

And Brave New World made less then that and Thunderbolts is about to make under 400m. Also Shang Chi was 4 years ago. The MCU box office has fallen off a cliff the last three years. Only two success stories. A lot of failure.

I'll just say this about the box office.

Granted the MCU may not be the same juggernaut it once was, but we still live in a timeline where Doctor Stephen Strange's sequel beat The Batman's reboot in the same year, post Endgame.

I don't know about a billion, but I wouldn't count out the FF.

Holy lack of context, Batman. Strange was:

a) A sequel.

b) came right after NWH where the good bad doctor appeared.

c) Only one movie has come close to that number since. Deadpool 3, which beat it handily being another... drum roll... SEQUEL.

In that time The Marvels barely made 200m, Quantumania was the worst Ant-Man flick at the box office, BNW died, and Thunderbolts did worse.

OH he's queer and he was in this hot gay movie by a Finnish director. HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, the Maximoffs are FRUITY :pride::rainbow::santa::horn::nocare::rock::transgender::swoon:

...if he's cast, that is.
That's what happen when AI procreate. :o

Darth, this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

EVERY MOVIE (after Iron Man) is a sequel my man.

I dont know if the FF are going to be the heart of the MCU or anything, but I don't think people thought Cap would either after his movie didn't crack $400 mil. Further, the FF I highly doubt are being positioned as Iron Man replacements. The GOTG seems a better comparison to me. They're out of the Avengers stratosphere and the Avengers will always be Brand A. Top dog. But they can still become a popular team in their own right.

Doesn't change the fact that Strange beat Batsy like he stole something at the box office.

And like what the FF will potentially do to Supes. :sneeze:
What happened to the Thunderbolts and Brave New World? Cap 4 made less then 50% of Cap 3.

The Thunderbolts were suppose to be the new GOTG.
