The Negative Outlook thread

How can Fat look like Roshi more in POTC then in Dragonball?

Who knows. China apparently banned that movie because how they were portrayed or something. Some people on here are using that as an excuse as to why he doesn't look the way he should.

I have only one big unexcusable problem with this film: Roshi not being perverted or humorous. If this isn't entirely true, than good. I HIGHLY doubt Goku is completely "emo" as some call him, but if so....bleh.

And the fact that he looks nothing like Roshi either. It's Bulletproof Monk all over again.

POTC was banned in China? I thought TDK was. The only reason POTC3 added Fat was because they wanted appeal more to the very lucrative Asian market.

yeah, POTC3 was banned in some parts of China because they were offended that they were portraying one of the bad guys as an Asian...

...as if there are no bad Asians in the world.

Seriously? The movie advocated murderous, thieving, rapist pirates as heroic freedom fighters.

No it is 100 million but I think lot of the money was used to get it in production before the writers strike.

Oops sorry I read it at JP's site in the begining.

yeah.....well, you know how the Chinese are with their media. one of my co-workers was in China during the Olympics and she told us about how they tried to prevent them from going to certain websites while she was there.

Well then what's the problem with making Roshi look more faithful, he's not a bad guy in this movie.

my theory is that they wanted their biggest star to be recognizable. most Americans recognize Chow Yun Fat by his look from his earlier American films so shaving his head and covering his lower face in white hair would probably make him unrecognizable for the American general audience. Fox is all about the money so they probably thought having your biggest star be recognizable would be a good marketing decision. unfortunately, it's not a very good creative decision.

Your probably right. I also think that since they changed the character Roshi to not being a sexual pervert Fox decided to give him a bit of a different look.

oddly enough, seeing Chow play Roshi as a goofball makes me wish EVEN MORE that he actually LOOKED like Roshi.

a bald roshi and a bulma with hair would fit in this movie. thats the worst part. the way this movie looks a blue bulma wouldnt look strange.

FOX: sorry, blue hair is too unrealistic. Now how much is this inflatible cgi bike gonna cost?

:hehe:

Anyways...what is the number one thing you guys hate about this movie so far?

20th Century Fox

But overall:
Bad acting(except for the guy playing Piccollo)

Horrible directing. Yeah THIS is the guy you want writing and directing your $100 mil film.

Bad 90's writing(I can't even find anything on the other guy).

Replacing Japanese characters with white actors(I can't wait till krillin is introduced as Gokus token black hip-hop talkin friend:dry:).

The camera turning sideways every 10 seconds.

And Goku becoming "The Chosen One", because god knows, no one's ever seen that before:whatever:

I would prefer another anime DBZ movie rather than something life action.

Chow Yun Fat is not a big star nor is he a significant box office draw.

The not wanting to put him in a lot of makeup excuse doesn't hold water.

I have to agree with the bad acting. Have you seen those new clips of Chatwin? Yikes! :wow:

Best thing about those new clips is Yamcha, that dude nailed that **** down to perfection. He is preety much Yamcha excluding the gay blonde highlights of course.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6mlKt04aOM&feature=related Fight scenes suck ass, look at the Mai Chichi and original Chichi fight at around 13 seconds into the fight you notice when the original Chichi is spinning around the Mai Chichi is not attacking her but instead waiting for her to stop spinning so they can conclude their fight. Seriously I have seen bad Choreography but this takes it to another level.

Agreed. I'm already liking Joon Park and he'll probably won't be in the movie that much, which is a shame.
