The New Ghostbusters - Part 10

Well I enjoyed it. McKinnon was a highlight as expected, and so was Jones, which was less expected for me. It wasn't anything amazing and some jokes fell flat, but overall I had a good time and I'd definitely be up for a sequel.

How about they don't make the male or female characters incompetent. Crazy idea, I know.:o

It's not about under representation. It's about making the male characters extremely dumb to make the female characters look better. It's lazy and asinine. Which is really insulting to females and males. The filmmakers didn't need to make the men a bunch of dumbasses to make the women look like the smart ones of the bunch. But I guess the filmmakers thought that the only way to have the female characters be the smartest characters was by making the male characters complete dumbasses. Yeah that's so very respectful of the females and sooo progressive.:o

100% agreed

All the characters that weren't The Ghostbuster were portrayed negatively because they were the underdogs mistreated by the world at large. It wasn't a gender thing.

My cinema was basically empty except for me and a few others. How full were other screenings for you guys?

There's one thing in the reddit post that I haven't seen mentioned...

Was there a dance number?

Yes it was.

Because you say it was or...

I've already heard from people that have seen the film that it's as others have said. There are dumb characters but it's not based on male/female it's main cast/supporting character.

well that's good to hear

One dance routine that Erin and Abby came up with in school and re-enacted for Jillian and Patty was cut, and the possessed Kevin forcing the FBI and Army to dance scene was cut and shuffled to the credit scene.

Some people just want every male character to be perfect. Stop trying to censor Feig's artistic vision; no real man is actually getting hurt by this, it's just for fun. :o

if you view this movie with the attitude to have fun and a laugh you will enjoy it. I enjoyed it . young kids at my theatre loved it. The over analysis in this thread is hilarious. Its ghostbusters not Schindler's List

Yeah, the little kids really dug the movie. As I was going in I saw some parents with a bunch of little girls going crazy about getting ready to see it. Which is not a bad thing honestly.

not at all

I saw a group of teenageish girls together in my theater, they seemed to really like it

I can't wait to show my daughter this movie in a couple years. She'll miss half the jokes (just like I did with the original as a 4 year old) but the characters will probably work anyway. And she's gonna freakin' love the ghosts.

Source tells me #Ghostbusters having almost no drop SAT & may reach about $17M. Kid biz kicking in. Opening wknd may get near $47M.

I mean I guess that's good, but still 47 mill is not a good opening weekend is it?

Unless this has really good legs, this probably will barely squeak by 110-120 mill domestic. If they want a sequel hopefully the overseas take is bigger

I saw this movie on Thursday night and really loved it. Only negatives for me were some terribly weak cameos (Murray's was awful) and an uninspiring villian.

Loved all four ladies (and Hemsworth) and would gladly watch a sequel with that whole gang. McKinnon in particular was sublime.

Should they have done a Creed/Force Awakens thing? Absolutley... If they embraced the original instead of winking at it and offered a ''passing of the torch'' storyline, nostalgia might have kicked in and the box office would be looking better right now.

Give it a chance.

Feig and McCarthy movies have had really, really good legs. It is too early to write the movie off as a failure just yet.

Feig and MCarthy movies also have much lower production and marketing budgets. Nor do they have a much competition as this has in just the next few weeks

EDIT: you know what this has going for it though. I think it's the only new non animated comedy for a while, so that'll help it

I've seen it three times now. Once in its rough draft, twice as the final product, one of them being in 3D. I'm giving the IMAX 3D a go later today. If you are seeing "man bashing" in the movie, it's because you are determined to see it that way.

agreed, yes some male characters are the butt of the joke and suddenly that's a bad thing?

women have been used as trophies and sex objects since the dawn of Hollywood

eh, I felt that way initially, but it would have been validating all the wimmen hating man babies out there that this new film had to kneel before its predecessor to get approval
