The New Ghostbusters - Part 10

Let's put this theory in the same category as critics being biased against WB or being paid off by Disney, ok?
I like this attitude.

Just saw the Sibling Rivalry video from Channel Awesome, and I think their attitude is the right way to go with this movie.

...checks in on the Ghostbusters thread...

Because some (NOT ALL) critics don't want to be labeled "sexist" if they give this movie a bad review. Then there are those critics who MIGHT give the movie a good review SOLELY because they feel that this movie is a good and positive thing for young girls.

Exactly right on point.

This was bad. Just bad. I'm a huge fan of the franchise, and despite all the STUPID things I heard about it, I really wanted to enjoy it. Really! I did want to. But it was just awful. Mile-a-minute, juvenile jokes that 9 times out of 10 did NOT land, cringeworthy acting in the "dramatic scenes", pacing was awful, and the villain, well...let's just not discuss Rowan. Not worth the controversy, not worth seeing it for fun. Just don't. I feel awful for the actresses involved in this trainwreck, and Paul as well. Amy Pascal sucks, though.
3/10.

Rowan

is that you?

Weekend estimates have dropped to under $45m.

Under any other circumstances a female-led comedy movie is good counter programming top the usual blockbuster films, but given this remake is a blockbusters film and is targeting the exact same audiences that both Star Trek and Ice Age are I can't see this having good staying power next weekend.

Without the original, this would be better received because even if it's just a mediocre film (which it absolutely is) it still would have set a precedent for world building that would leave anticipation for potentially, a much better sequel. The Ghostbusters lore is fascinating, and it's fun to explore story possibilities.

Unfortunately for GB2016 that's already been done by GB84, and done much better.

Quoted for the truth.

Still havent been able to find Ecto Cooler...

oh and Kate McKinnon is still my fave thing about this movie she pretty much stole like every bit she was in (and loved the cameo of her 'mentor' :awesome: ).

:whatever:

Let's not. Sometimes people own personal social political beliefs and the fear of being labeled as either a bigot or as being sexist can influence their opinions and/or cause them not to express how they really feel about something. It's human nature.

This is a very interesting and enlightening video.

And here is a follow up video to the one that I posted above.

That argument is a nonstarter. There is no way to prove or disprove it. And Occum's razor would indicate that there are zealots on either side that love it or hate it, but the majority of reviews are middle ground, and the consensus is that it is a fun movie with some flaws, but is overall enjoyable. Any other theories you concoct that require assumptions about other people's emotional states or secret motivations, are nothing more than flights of fancy.

Agree. I give it 2/10 though. The film had potential but it's just dreck. A waste of time and money.

I actually ended up liking it. I was completely uninterested in the drama surrounding it. Anyone acting like the original Ghostbusters was an untouchable classic was probably not worth engaging with anyway so I never paid it any attention. I went into this without the specter of that festering boil of hate over my head and ended up enjoying the movie. My girlfriend laughed her ass off and I got a kick out of all the cameos. I was not disappointed.

I am curious, though, if the same crusading band of film purists who want to keep the legacy of the original film untarnished will have the same overblown reaction to Ben-Hur being remade. Methinks not.

I really enjoyed it even the more annoying characters like Patty. One of my fave things was

how they had all the main actors except for Ramis and Moranis have cameos and even Ramis was some what honored as there was a bust of his head outside the Dean's office at Columbia University

It tried too hard is my one sentence review summary. It was so pro woman that I felt ashamed to have testosterone. It tried too hard to be a feminist. There was literally a queef joke less than 10 minutes in. It felt like a cheap Ghostbusters parody. It felt like a high budget SNL sketch movie. Every single male character is incompetent in this movie. There wasn't a single positive male character. The villain was one dimensional and so were Holtzman and Patty. Holtzman has new gadgets and tech every other scene. To summarize the movie, they defeat the villain by shooting him in the dick. Great movie!

That would be effective on an actual guy, if you're looking to go for the kill. It's easy to bleed to death if any vessels down there were ruptured. Rowan was a human turned ghost?

Was there anything in the movie about the ghosts of new York's criminals, as had been rumored early on in the production?

Source tells me #Ghostbusters having almost no drop SAT & may reach about $17M. Kid biz kicking in. Opening wknd may get near $47M.

If that's how you choose to see it, that's all you will see.

There are ghosts of gangsters and pilgrims and flapper girls in the ghost army, but that sequence was really cut back from the length is was in the test screening.

How terrible.

Is there an requisite number of minutes before such a joke is appropriate? Did the '84 film wait the appropriate number of minutes before it's ******io joke, or was that also unacceptable?

Yeah, and there are so few positive male characters in film these days that this is a true problem. Shame on the filmmakers! Don't they know how underrepresented men are in the blockbuster film industry?

How about they don't make the male or female characters incompetent. Crazy idea, I know.:o

It's not about under representation. It's about making the male characters extremely dumb to make the female characters look better. It's lazy and asinine. Which is really insulting to females and males. The filmmakers didn't need to make the men a bunch of dumbasses to make the women look like the smart ones of the bunch. But I guess the filmmakers thought that the only way to have the female characters be the smartest characters was by making the male characters complete dumbasses. Yeah that's so very respectful of the females and sooo progressive.:o
