Its not that they're female, its that these actors overall suck or have nothing to bring to the table... it's essential a silver screen SNL skit. I can name so many ladies I'd take in seconds;

Melanie Laurent, Alison Brie, Brie Larson, Rhetta, Zoe Kazan, Carly Chaikin, Ana Kendrick, Abbie Cornish, Stephanie Beatriz, Tatiana Maslany, Sarah Gadon, Antonia Thomas, Aubrey Plaza, Olivia Cooke, Haley Orrantia, Chanel Cresswell.

But how many of them were approached and turned it down? Additionally, there are a startling amount of unknowns on that list. For a project gestating as long as this, Sony is going to take a chance on those and not [unfortunately] bankable stars in Wiig and McCarthy?

I think Ghostbusters is a big enough name that they could go the leads are lesser known but then fill the rest of the cast with known names.

Superheroes films have had good success with that.

well then where'd they pull Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones from??
A: the awful, unfunny modern SNL

Wiig is the only one of them who's not unbearably unfunny, and even her schtick gets grating

agreed, whole hearty ive never had a problem with an all female cast ive just had a problem with a cast which is essentially the same old jokes the director has been telling from his first movie

The thing is, the original movie consisted of guys already in the comic game, they're supposed to be average schmucks. These are technically the female equivalent.

No, the original crew were/are legends. No one will know these women in 30 years, maybe someone who really like Melissa in her niche drama roles.

I'm talking looks-wise and comic wise. As far as female comic legends go, can you even name one now? Seriously, it's not that easy.

So, there's objections because they are using SNL actors? :loco:

I'm not sure how to break this to you, but...

Kate McKinnon's actually the character I'm looking forward to most.

No..how could they be 'legends' back in 1984? They're legends NOW, but not back then.

How do you know that someone like Melissa or the other cast members won't be remembered years from now? Did you think that people thought that Bill Murray would still be an active actor back in the 80's? No because we don't have a crystal ball.

Watch 'Spy'. It's actually really good, and Melissa didn't 'lower' herself. Her character was the smartest person in the entire movie.

I think McCarthy is a lot funnier when she plays mean/abrasive characters like in The Heat and to a lesser extent Bridesmaids.

I honestly think McCarthy's performance in that is one of the best comedy performances since the start of the new century.

Ive been meaning to watch Spy. The trailer wasn't good but I keep hearing it's great. Comedy has been kinda lame this year, I feel.

The role called for fumbling fat character with sarcastic, funny wit.

Name that movie!

$50 says that McCarthy's character hooks up with Kevin the secretary.

Not a Ghostbusters fan, but I thought I'd stop by these threads to see what all the hubbub was about.

Lawd.

It's gettin' to be damn near F4/Killing Joke levels of nasty.

all these cameos from the original stars yet they are not playing their original roles. such a missed opportunity

oh well, not like i had planned on watching this movie anyway

Unless Feig is pulling off the biggest troll job of all time and this IS a direct sequel to the original movies!!!!

Eh. I can dream...

I was thinking the same thing... if, infact, it's all linked and they were indeed, playing the original characters.

Still don't understand why those would be gimmicks. The only reason those two characters were men to begin with is because we live in a society that enjoys pigeonholing genders into specific roles.

Those would be gimmicks because there's no reason to change the characters' genders except to create publicity or "just to be different".

I'd have no problem if this were a spin off/sequel where four women buy a Ghostbusters franchise. But instead they chose to do a REMAKE, and change all the characters to females just for the sake of getting publicity. That's what makes it a gimmick.

lol

This will be the opposite of F4. Most here will still rage, but this film will have the box office and critical receipts, another franchise is born. Heh.
