I'll have to politely disagree, this will be ALMOST an equivalent result of the F4 debacle. It will make some money but only because there hasn't been a GB movie since 1989 and some are curious.

i see no signs at all that this will be anything like the F4 debacle

I will keep this and cash in later. :cwink:

lol

This will be the opposite of F4. Most here will still rage, but this film will have the box office and critical receipts, another franchise is born. Heh.

Most of the negativity from this movie is coming from disgruntled fans. By all accounts, the making of the film itself was rather straightforward.

By comparison, F4 had all tons rumors about production issues, reshoots, rewrites and onward.

It's not the same.

:hehe:

EDIT: This was in reference to the F4 posts.

there's no reason to change the characters' genders except to create publicity or "just to be different"

Your right, only fans of the franchise (80% of the people who actually know who Ghostbusters are) dislike the project.

I have to say, I'm actually not too excited about all the cameos from the original cast members. To me it feels kind of like cheating, as a way of trying to get the audience to feel like "hey they're okay with it so it must be okay!". But at the same time serving as a pesky reminder that the classic continuity no longer exists in this movie.

I am keeping an open mind on this movie, and am curious to see a trailer. But I am somewhat confused on why without even a trailer yet, some are sold on this being a slam dunk. I could easily see this going wrong for so many reasons. This is a franchise very near and dear to a lot of folks and most would've been fine without a reboot. It has nothing to do with the gender swapping for me, I couldn't care less about that. I just think a lot of people's instant reaction to a GB reboot is to roll their eyes, so the movie is gonna have to be damn good to win people over.

I'm keeping an open mind though and am curious to see a trailer. I just think it's a bit early to call this one either way.

Animated #Ghostbusters film in the works at Sony http://bit.ly/1OKGFO5

With the female-driven “Ghostbusters” less than a year away from its release date, Sony Pictures Animation has called the gang for another project.
Sources confirm to Variety that Sony has begun developing an animated “Ghostbusters” pic with Ivan Reitman producing through his Montecito Picture Company. SPA president Kristine Belson and Michael Lachance will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

“Ghostbusters” has previously gone down the animated path, with an animated series following the success of the first film in the ’80s. Plot details are unknown, but it’s likely the film will follow the famous group as they fight supernatural forces.

No writer or director are attached at this time.

They may as well put it continuity wth TRGB.

I watched "Spy" a few days ago in hopes to get my opinion flipped. Here's what I found:

The men in this movie were either dumb, perverted, or both. If they weren't those things, they were the bad guy (unless they were a background character with 1 or zero lines). I understand some of the defenders of the gb reboot find it hard to believe that a male audience would be able to connect to the film, but if Feig's formula is anything like his previous movies then there will be a negative impact. I understand Hollywood had made most women helpless sexualized victims back in the 80s and 90s but all this gender/role-swapping doesn't fix anything. There needs to be strong characters from BOTH genders if he's trying to prove a point.

Did any of what you are pointing out stop SPY from being a hit with critics or audiences? Also... So what? So a handful of films out there have a gender flip YOU or others find... offensive? There are all the OTHER films where female characters are either bland, flavorless props, or sexualized bimbo idiots, or helpless damsels, and yes, they still make films like that.

And... 80% of GB fans are against this film sight unseen? Where are these numbers coming from exactly?

This is the problem with the genre fan community these days, I.E. "Fanboys". It's not that we aren't allowed to have our critiques, misgivings, or own druthers ect. That's part and parcel of being a fanboy. We are by nature a nitpicky lot. But in expressing ourselves or in our opinion in general we have to go from 0 to the speed of light in a millisecond. There's no freaking sense of context or self awareness. It's all extremes.

Many are riding high with the F4 debacle. "See... Fanboy nation was right all along and now we have Josh Trank's scalp to prove it". But as it's coming to light, it seems that F4 was sunk by the suits more than Trank, so even that is another example of the unselfaware and extreme opinion phenomenon.

I grew up with GHOSTBUSTERS, saw it when I was a child in 1984 and have always loved it. But I came to grips A LONG TIME AGO that a continuation of the series from G2 on the big screen wasn't going to happen, and the people to blame for that are Dan and Bill. Dan, for not being able to get the pieces together FOR DECADES, and Bill because until he got into problems with his divorce, wasn't game to come back and do a third one. And this was how it was for a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time.

As for the general antipathy of certain fanboys towards remakes? I really have no time for that bovine excrement faux iconoclastic, sophomoric elitist stance of the online world of opinion. Things have been getting remade for a very long time, especially when decades separate the release dates. Do you like Ben-Hur, The Maltese Falcon, El Dorado? Guess what? ALL REMAKES. Get over it and judge each film for what it does, not solely on how it compares to your childhood love of something.

Above all... This is in fact a stellar cast and a very talented director. The outrage seems very misplaced, but then, it may just be age showing, as let's be honest, Ramis, Murray and the crew were the comedy stars of a certain age bracket and in the 80's that tended to skew younger. This GB may well just not be for the over 35 crowd. Tough cookies for those that are against it that fall into that demo. You have the TERRIBLE burden of not paying money to see something that others may enjoy. Oh the horror.

Regarding remakes, most of the time they're unnecessary, it realy depends on the team behind them, the 50s Ben-Hur had everything going for it and various people making sure it would be an amazing spectacle, the new reboot that's soon coming out doesn't seem to have anything going for it besides the screenplayer, and therefore, it seems unnecessary right now.

Regarding Ghostbusters, this new reboot has creative people behind it who have been behind some of the best comedies recently, so yeah, it seems to be in good hands, i don't understand the criticism besides hoping there would be some continuity with the previous films.

No, "Spy" went up against "San Andreas" (which opened up a week earlier), "Insidious 3" and "Entourage." So it's obvious why it cashed in.

I don't need to type up a book as to why Paul's formula isn't what's going to work for everybody in the GB reboot. I'm glad your passionate about the pessimism though.

Yeah, 110 million off a 29 million opening. Clearly no legs. :whatever:

And is it ever so possibly, that the content that you object to is just possibly, a rip on tropes normally found in spy movies?

But frankly, most of the "criticism" I find of this movie is just another example of deep seated issues with a lot of fanboys.

I can't wait till they announce a sequel to this. lol

It. Will. Happen.

Believe that. :oldrazz:

Well he was going to do a sequel to "Heat" but he just took the blueprint for that outline and turned it into the GB reboot, so nothing surprises me in Hollywood anymore.

Please, tell me more. Maybe I will realize the folly of my views and force myself to be content with it.

Unless Feig is pulling off the biggest troll job of all time and this IS a direct sequel to the original movies!!!!

Eh. I can dream...

I have a theory that this is an alternate timeline or something.

I love the Ghostbusters and I'm not sure what to talk about. I see nothing about the film yet that makes me not want to see it. I like the director and cast, and the designs so far aren't making me think that they aren't trying to make a good film.

Rick Moranis on why he turned down Feig's Ghostbusters

"I wish them well," says the 62-year-old comedic legend, who's so stunned by the outcry over his absence in the film that he decided to grant a rare interview with THR. "I hope it's terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?"

"I took a break, which turned into a longer break," he says. "But I'm interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role" — he's repped by the Santa Monica-based endorsement firm Bailey Brand Management — "and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I'll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn't appeal to me."

"It's hard to come up with original material," he says. "Occasionally, they get it right or else they wouldn't attempt to do these things. I'm surprised that Disney hasn't done Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids. But I'm happy with the things I said yes to, and I'm very happy with the many things I've said no to. Yes, I am picky, and I'll continue to be picky. Picky has worked for me."

Disney exec: "Heeey, that's not a bad idea"

*Immediately hires a scriptwriter for Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids*
