The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

The problem with GB2 for me, well besides being disappointing in general, is simple. I've read stuff from Ramis (RIP) and Aykroyd where they mentioned having trouble coming up with new/compelling ideas for the sequel, and it really shows. They do that thing that always annoys me with sequels, hit the reset button so that they essentially do the same arc as the first movie all over again. And GB2 does that A LOT! It's like writers cannot think of good ways to PROGRESS stories beyond their initial idea, so they just do said idea all over again with a slightly different coat of paint.

not that it's some genius idea, but i thought it would be a pretty cool way to honor ramis was to included him, and the death of his character in a gb sequel. that's one of the reasons why it being a full reboot doesn't really sit well with me. we don't get to say goodbye to harold. we don't get to say goodbye to egon.

maybe it was all those gb art tributes for ramis that had me bawling like a baby, that really got to me. i don't know.

Good for him. He tends to get neglected b/c he his character was an outsider and Ernie wasn't a comedian or well known prior to Ghostbusters. Or maybe b/c he's black? I kid, I kid!

The fact that the original Ghostbusters are making cameos in this movie has me a bit more excited to see the film.

They could have easily set it in the same universe, have a new group set up and carry on the GB franchise when a new threat is on the horizon.

The actors could have cameo'd and probably spent the same amount of time on set - just with a different script/situation.

It's a COMPLETE reboot. These guys have small cameos as completely different background characters.

What if the actors play the originals and it's all hush hush.

It's a big stretch of the imagination, but not impossible, however improbable.

What If Jone's character is related to Hudson. The girls carry on the originals work and pay homage to it after years of the GB's being forgotten and turned into urban legend.

It could be neat that they have all moved on and it's Winston that kept the flame/beam alive and gifted them the fire hall?

I know, it'll never happen.

but i just wonder why Ernie had so much damn fun, is there a little bit of excitement to it?

Forgive me for not having time to research every little detail about this movie.

On another note, it's going to be weird to see these guys in a Ghostbusters, not being the Ghostbusters.

EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT THIS GB REBOOT:

- It's a COMPLETE reboot, new characters and new origins with NOTHING to do with the original films.

- After comparing all the set leaks with the leaked outline from last last year, it's safe to say that there will be NO Marshmallow Man (he is now replaced by a t-rex ghost), NO firehouse headquarters (they rent out the upstairs of a chinese restarant instead, the GB HQ from the originals has been reduced to a cameo that is declared "too expensive" by this new team) and if they are sticking 100% with the outline (so far everything has been accurate) the "Slimer" ghost is now a deceased mob boss that the GBs blast away leaving just his floating head.

- The original GB actors now have minimal cameos as completely different background characters, NOT relating to the original films at all.

-It's unknown in what capacitiy the original GB theme song will be used, Paul Feig was pretty vague about how they plan on using it (if they do).

- Chris Hemsworth plays the secretary that, as far as we can tell, is the comic relief given that he wears a GB uniform with a homemade name patch that he cut from duct tape and wrote with black marker.

- All the supporting male characters are either evil or dumb....okay, that part I made up. But it's looking that way.
