All the trades (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, EW, etc.) have gotten confirmation from production sources that's he's definitely in this.
In regards to who he's playing, there was a part in the original script that was specifically written for Murray. No telling if that's still the case but It probably is.
(SPOILER WARNING)

so bill Murray is playing this movies walter peck
look im not one of the muppets who cried fowl at this movie, i dont like the crews past works but i was willing to give it a go, but if they have managed to get 2 of the big names from the originals back for cameos, why in the blue **** dont they just link it to the originals
protesting about how its new and a restart goes right out the window when you get the first guys back as cameos

My kids know Ghostbusters, but the concept is pretty cool and Real Ghostbusters appealed to them. That being said, I randomly show them leaked pictures from the new film and they deduced they were making a new film and got excited. Plus, the actresses visited the hospital because the kids put a sign in the window saying, "Who're you gonna call?" So I'm sure some of the kids knew who they were supposed to be.
Oh the whining here is glorious.
And then you show up and it gets even more shrill. Stop trying to paint everyone as wimmin haterz. It's tired, lazy, stupid, and you'll score far more of your precious brownie points on tumblr than you ever will around here.
No. I'll remove the "3," but it still has Ghostbusters in the name as far as I know, and will always have some connection. The original is one of my favorite movies, but some folks are being way too dramatic about this.
Oh the whining here is glorious. Yeah, this couldn't possibly work. I've heard fans say that before, often before it works and they end up looking really foolish. Here's an idea, maybe Murray's doing it because, unlike others, he's not instantly horrified by the idea of an all-female Ghostbusters team. And he thinks that it'll be fun (just like Thor btw).
The poor kids were probably wanting the actual Ghostbusters to show up.
It's because Feig "couldn't wrap his head around a world where ghosts exist already" (as opposed to a world with non-existent ghosts? I dunno). Someone with no imagination should not have creative control over a franchise that has a giant marshmallow man (which he has excluded, btw). But at least he'll have an interesting fan film to show next summer.
It happened to Fantastic Four![]()
with all the negativity and criticism surrounding the film, i can definitely see this bombing just as bad as the new Fantastic Four
The issue isnt that he's doing a cameo, or how well it will be done.
The issue here is that he refused to play a role or even cameo in GB3 for 20+ years. And now, once Harold Ramis has died and a real GB3 will never happen, he decides he wants to do a cameo. And in this film no less.
It's a big slap in the face to the fans, as well as his castmates who were all willing and able to return but never got the chance since the studio wouldn't greenlight without him on board.
Poor Harold Ramis (along with Akyroyd) wrote and rewrote the damn GB3 script an unreasonable amount of times to try to get him to board. He he flat out refused.
Perhaps he's doing this one in Ramis's memory, but it flat out sucks he refused to do GB3 until it was too late.
In a away, it does suck. I totally get it. Bill friggin' Murray was the one I've been watching for years, hoping he'd budge on GB3. He didn't and it will never happen now. But...what if he just honestly didn't like what he saw? I know the reports are that he never read the script and stuff, but who really knows with ol' mysterious Bill. Maybe he did and he just wasn't impressed. And so, what if he does like what he's seeing with the new film? What if this brought him out of the shadows because he likes the cast and direction it's going in and he's showing his approval?
Let's face it...Bill Murray does not need the money. I always thought that if the new film was different enough, he'd be a part of it. He just doesn't want another GB2 to happen (which I liked).
Isn't it funny that those of us assuming this new film is garbage are the same ones assuming the sequel that will never come to be would have been perfect? Whose to say that the movie Aykroyd was pitching just wasn't any good?
And yet, he did some voice acting for a video game with the other three. And Bill isn't exactly easy to get a hold of. Perhaps many are just going to have accept the 2009 video game is their Ghostbusters 3 and move on.
I know it may be hard to accept, but perhaps the scripts that had been turning up weren't actually good.
That he did the 2009 video game highly, highly suggests he wasn't down on the franchise. He just needed something that he liked.
