The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

The only thing I have learned from this production is how much of an ******* Bill Murray is.

All the trades (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, EW, etc.) have gotten confirmation from production sources that's he's definitely in this.

In regards to who he's playing, there was a part in the original script that was specifically written for Murray. No telling if that's still the case but It probably is.

(SPOILER WARNING)

look im not one of the muppets who cried fowl at this movie, i dont like the crews past works but i was willing to give it a go, but if they have managed to get 2 of the big names from the originals back for cameos, why in the blue **** dont they just link it to the originals

protesting about how its new and a restart goes right out the window when you get the first guys back as cameos

It's because Feig "couldn't wrap his head around a world where ghosts exist already" (as opposed to a world with non-existent ghosts? I dunno). Someone with no imagination should not have creative control over a franchise that has a giant marshmallow man (which he has excluded, btw). But at least he'll have an interesting fan film to show next summer.

I mean, who says a trailer will flop a movie?

It happened to Fantastic Four :rimshot:

My kids know Ghostbusters, but the concept is pretty cool and Real Ghostbusters appealed to them. That being said, I randomly show them leaked pictures from the new film and they deduced they were making a new film and got excited. Plus, the actresses visited the hospital because the kids put a sign in the window saying, "Who're you gonna call?" So I'm sure some of the kids knew who they were supposed to be.

I think people are being harsh about this. The kids might not know anything about a new film but it still makes them feel special to have a visit. Imagine if Murray and Akroyd walked into a hospital before the movie came out , it would still be fun. These are all female comedians on top of that. It could be a publicity stunt , but who cares if kids are benefitting.

I wish Murray was doing a cameo as an actual Ghostbuster . Maybe this is an alternate reality . I'm more excited about the film being made in my hometown. I've visited the set a couple times . So I can't wait to see how some things look.

The poor kids were probably wanting the actual Ghostbusters to show up.

Oh the whining here is glorious.

And then you show up and it gets even more shrill. Stop trying to paint everyone as wimmin haterz. It's tired, lazy, stupid, and you'll score far more of your precious brownie points on tumblr than you ever will around here.

Can a MOD rename this thread so we can clear any connection to the original great film(s)?

No. I'll remove the "3," but it still has Ghostbusters in the name as far as I know, and will always have some connection. The original is one of my favorite movies, but some folks are being way too dramatic about this.

You've noticed that, too, huh?:yay:

The good news is that I keep seeing more positive, "I guess I'll give this film a chance," comments around the web with the Bill Murray news. For me, it's countdown to trailer time!

Oh the whining here is glorious. Yeah, this couldn't possibly work. I've heard fans say that before, often before it works and they end up looking really foolish. Here's an idea, maybe Murray's doing it because, unlike others, he's not instantly horrified by the idea of an all-female Ghostbusters team. And he thinks that it'll be fun (just like Thor btw).

You just have to get used to the whining. Its going to be a long year.

how is this feig's fault? are we gonna pretend dan hasn't been trying to get bill on board for gb3 for at least 2 decades? if there's anyone to be disappointed in, it's bill.

... I only just saw Bridesmaids a few weeks ago, and I thought it was friggin' great. So considering a few of the key players are involved here, I'm really looking forward to it now (not that I was ever against it to begin with, just indifferent).

I'll say this much about the entire production: Great comedic actresses, everybody's love for the originals, and Paul making it a horror movie (his first horror film) so that'll be interesting. Those are the high points for me, I'm just upset that they decided not to make it a continuation or have this set in another city to branch a new franchise.

I can see one of these in this movie's future .....

Why? I haven't seen anything yet that shows it being a bad film.

with all the negativity and criticism surrounding the film, i can definitely see this bombing just as bad as the new Fantastic Four

What about it exactly is driving people to this conclusion? A lot of movies have negativity surrounding them and turn out well. Hell, for the CBM genre, look at X: FC.

I know, right? Just like all the hating and "you're ruining my childhood" stuff from the fan community when Transformers came out. Flames on Prime...are you mental?!? That bombed, too. Wonder why they keep making them. They're only making, like, a billion dollars on the crappy films.

Negativity does not equal failure in all cases, my friend.

The issue isnt that he's doing a cameo, or how well it will be done.

The issue here is that he refused to play a role or even cameo in GB3 for 20+ years. And now, once Harold Ramis has died and a real GB3 will never happen, he decides he wants to do a cameo. And in this film no less.

It's a big slap in the face to the fans, as well as his castmates who were all willing and able to return but never got the chance since the studio wouldn't greenlight without him on board.

Poor Harold Ramis (along with Akyroyd) wrote and rewrote the damn GB3 script an unreasonable amount of times to try to get him to board. He he flat out refused.

Perhaps he's doing this one in Ramis's memory, but it flat out sucks he refused to do GB3 until it was too late.

And yet, he did some voice acting for a video game with the other three. And Bill isn't exactly easy to get a hold of. Perhaps many are just going to have accept the 2009 video game is their Ghostbusters 3 and move on.

I know it may be hard to accept, but perhaps the scripts that had been turning up weren't actually good.

In a away, it does suck. I totally get it. Bill friggin' Murray was the one I've been watching for years, hoping he'd budge on GB3. He didn't and it will never happen now. But...what if he just honestly didn't like what he saw? I know the reports are that he never read the script and stuff, but who really knows with ol' mysterious Bill. Maybe he did and he just wasn't impressed. And so, what if he does like what he's seeing with the new film? What if this brought him out of the shadows because he likes the cast and direction it's going in and he's showing his approval?

Let's face it...Bill Murray does not need the money. I always thought that if the new film was different enough, he'd be a part of it. He just doesn't want another GB2 to happen (which I liked).

Isn't it funny that those of us assuming this new film is garbage are the same ones assuming the sequel that will never come to be would have been perfect? Whose to say that the movie Aykroyd was pitching just wasn't any good?

That he did the 2009 video game highly, highly suggests he wasn't down on the franchise. He just needed something that he liked.

Forget the piddly video game, even though ironically it had all the original characters. He passed on every script and now of the sudden when they for sure cannot get the group back together he decides it's time to cameo?

That's called a cash grab. It was now or never for Murray to take advantage. I highly doubt the script for this was the difference maker. It's essentially a retread of the first one spun into a female adventure.

The video game was essentially the third film we never got, although it borrows too heavily on the first two films IMO.
