Why can't the actual overall quality of whatever it is, in this case a fun and funny remake of the Ghostbusters, be a separate issue to all that you just typed though? Why? Say it is a "gimmick"... Okay... So what? Is the writing of the story and characters funny? Are the production values good? Did it make the audience laugh and have a good time? If it does that then... Who the frack cares about it being gimmicky? And there is where I have a problem with the fans being so loud about this... None of what you or others bring up is germane to the actual content or quality of the film. It's a choice the creators made and hopefully they deliver on the far more important aspects. That's what I would be far more concerned about. Instead I keep hearing harping on the ONE aspect that seems to stand out... The female cast. Is it a wonder why the term sexism is being thrown around? I don't mean that to be a smart ass, I mean that to really open some eyes. If instead of saying, "I don't like the gimmick of an all female cast" and instead the the line of criticism was, "I don't like the director's previous work" or "I don't like Mcarthy or Wiig as comedians" then, fine. BUT that doesn't seem to be what I hear a lot. I hear that for some reason it seems to offend fans that they made this film with an all female cast. Sorry, rightly or wrongly, if that is the bone of contention, then, yeah, it's not a surprise that some look at that as having a whiff of sexism to it.
