The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

The red demon thing? It looks like it would fit right in with the Extreme Ghostbusters series. I like it, but I could see why others might not care for it.

No, the white thing with the bow tie that looks from the original logo.

No worries man, I was more commenting on how you were not complaining about anything. I didn't get why that poster was calling you out.

Saw on reddit that some dude on youtube claims to have seen a testing for 3 trailers and says that this is definitely connected to the originals and that two of the trailers went into that.

Obviously there's no proof of anything. But if this is connected, why do such blatant misdirection early on when the film was announced that could potentially hurt the film? I understand not wanting to ruin plot lines but if this is in the same universe I don't get why anyone would want to piss off the fanbase.

Maybe Feig and co are doing something similar to Star Trek 2009 with regard to the two continuities? A kind of mystery box.

Maybe, but if the trailers themselves are marketing that it's connected I just don't get that reasoning. Not having it connected has been alot on why this film is getting a bad reception.

Abrams himself mentioned that the misdirection of Kahn was a mistake. Not sure what the gain is. Lying about stuff like that doesn't usually go too well.

If I haven't been following the production news, the teaser would have me believe the new ghostbusters are in the same continuity or a soft sequel at least.

Definitely, I just think this film could have lost alot of hate by announcing that is a soft sequel. Not a hard reboot with no connection. Who knows if it is, but I keep reading, seeing and hearing things that lead me to think that's becoming possibility.

It's tidbits like this which make me look forward to the trailer. Just want to see how it comes together.

I hope the movie doesn't have some bad modern version of the theme song. It could be something really bad.

If all this is true it has to be one of the stupidest marketing mistakes I've ever witnessed.

Exactly, saying it's a sequel gives hope that it will be true and respectful to what we know and love, rather than an unknown experience.

Plus, the 'star wars factor' of wanting to see old heroes one last time.

If true, it sounds like it was decision after the fact. Probably after all the bad press they received, they did "reshoots" to make it tie into the first two movies.

It wasn't a decision after the fact.

How do you know?

1. We don't know yet if it does tie into the original yet.

2. If it does, taking what the cast/crew have been saying since the beginning about this project being its own thing it most definitely would've been changed after the initial shooting. Happens a lot with these kinds of films.

Majik has been calling bs for quite sometime on it not being connected.

So did you have info or just hope it was connected?
While I have many friends in all facets of the industry, I did not need to bother them with this movie.

With common sense, I've explained why this movie is not some reboot unconnected to the original 2 films, and with the most recent teaser, I'm happy it proved wrong those who continuously was under some sort of impression that it was.

The amount of complaints I've read in here are some of the most mind-numbingly stupid and contradictory complaints I've read in a long time.

I gave up on common sense when it comes to Hollywood a long time ago :(

The rumors, reporting and info on this flick have been fairly jumbled. So it will be nice in a few weeks when we have something.

That trailer report did say one of the three shown did not feature any mention of the connection, so we might not get that first. But if Sony is blocking on copyright grounds I don't see how they could take down the vid if what he was saying wasn't true...

Fair dos if you get it right, but people aren't exactly labouring under the impression that it's a reboot when all the media outlets are calling it just that, and notably Feig himself has said it was one.

Here he was in an interview for Spy articulating his reasons for making a reboot.

People weren't under the impression it wasn't connected. They have openly said it was not connected. And the plot details that have leaked out (which were eventually confirmed by officially released details, as well as the Sony email leaks) prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this film WAS NOT tied to the originals. It was an entirely new story, with the original continuity, story, and characters discarded.

If the film is now some how tied to the original films, it happened late in the process, done via rewrites and reshoots, similar to Paramount's patchwork on TMNT when fans turned on that film after it was revealed The Shredder was white, not Japanese, and not named Oroku Saki but Eric Sachs, a character who remained in the film but had all mentions of him being the Shredder cut out.

I say with 100% confidence that it was not Sony or Paul Feig's original intention to tie this movie to original. And if it now is tied to the original (I doubt it, but it wouldn't surprise me), it most certainly happened because fans turned on the film because of that disconnect. That was and is the first and most important reason this film has gotten so much flack.

And if the rumors of this film's quality are true (also wouldn't surprise me considering the terrible sounding plot leak), then this move makes sense. Sony is going to need to get the hardcore, built in fans back, and that's pretty much the only way to do it.

We already know the original film's cast members appear in this film, so tying this film to the original continuity isn't impossible. They could have convinced the original cast to reprise their roles in reshoots, OR they've always been on board to reprise those roles, and it's been a closely guarded secret. Which feels unlikely since it would require Murray to have agreed to play Venkman again, which he so far has been 100% unwilling to do. And, we have an abundance of evidence to the contrary.

But who knows.... Maybe they did get Murray to finally agree, and all the original cast are back in their original roles. If that was/is the case, I'd certainly be much more willing to go see this film. I always wanted new Ghostbusters, I just don't agree with abandoning the old stories and characters to do so.

"Some sort of impression"? It was stated several times by people directly connected to the movie that the new film would act as if the 1984 movie never happened. Fans weren't making that up.
