Why would they say the original events happened if it's a reboot?

Nostalgia.

The problem with tapping directly into nostalgia is that, for general audiences (which is what this film is going to live or die by), it creates confusion and false expectations.

As long as the filmmakers money I doubt Sony care about expectation, draw audiences in first and Formost

I agree...it is very misleading.

Because they think the misdirection will sell better.

About a week ago Sony pulled a youtubers video who said he tested for three trailers, and that two of them had different variations of connections to the original, while the other had nothing.

The trailer looked ok. I liked the visuals but I'm not excited. Ghostbusters franchise needed a sequel not a reboot. I just don't understand what they were thinking. Just make a sequel were the old team trains a new team. It would be logical and everyone would be happy.

The bolded is exactly what we've gotten.

All four of these ladies have appeared together before either in film or on television (Saturday Night Live).

I forgot SNL, lol. I've never saw them in any way, shape, or form, before this trailer with the exception of Jenny McCarthy, but that's only because of trailer and quick clips that I've seen before.

The black woman was ugly? WTF does that opinion even have to do with a damn thing? Seriously? As if the leads of the original were judged by their attractiveness.

Eh, she didn't click with me. For me, there is a big sign above ehr head that screams "recast her".

I'm hoping everyone is right and that its a bad or even meh trailer. But as it stands, we might've been right the whole time and that this is going to be a meh movie.

The visuals looked great....

If this is a reboot, why elude to what happened 30 years ago marketing team? It's conveying the idea that the original Gb and this film are in the same universe....

See, I know some of you like Paul Feig movies, but this is the thing about 'em that I don't like: the jokes are so cookie cutter and predictable. I know some people were mad about an all girl Ghostbusters, and while I wasn't exactly thrilled about it, it was never my biggest problem. My problem has always been Paul Feig and McCarthy. They just don't do it for me. And after watching this trailer, it's what I was expecting, and why I never thought Paul Feig was a good match for the Ghostbusters brand. His style of comedy just doesn't feel right for Ghostbusters. I would've been just as worried and vocal if Adam Sandler was directing.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, so I was hoping it would feel more like Ghostbusters, but it just looks more like Paul Feig. Whatever, it is what it is. I do like the ghosts and the proton packs, though. Overall, it's not horrible(which I never thought it would be), but it's just....Paul Feig(bland).

This will be like TMNT. Great visuals, but a sucky story.....bet it gets a sequel too.

I want my 2 mins 37 seconds back please

I don't like the cast, the film looks like a remake of the first one and it just looks crap!

Agreed.
With a better director and some funnier women, I'd probably be much more on-board with this
The female ghostbusters thing has never been an issue for me, it's the actual people who are involved that I don't care for

Okay, this was better. The last shot with "light em up!" and the four firing at a ghost off screen got me excited. Maybe it is a bad trailer, maybe it is the comedy that doesn't work.

I gotta say, if this trailer showed the four kicking ass more than doing the jokes that didn't click, maybe I would've had a different reaction.

just curious who would you have cast?

Considering SW 7: A New Hope Redux crushed the box office, i doubt that will be it's undoing.

It's all down the group having chemistry and having fun.

I'm fine with rebooting it and don't really see the appeal of a sequel with Ramis gone and Murray unwilling to play a big part.

To attempt to bring in the old school fans maybe? Feig has mentioned many times this is a reboot, not a remake of the original film.

Pretty awesome video and seeing the science behind it. That is authentic Ghostbusters right there and increases my hope for this film.

The trailer was great to me. My only laugh out loud moment was, "The power of Patty compels you!" Other jokes were chuckles and grins. The ghosts look terrific and I'm glad Feig went with the more realistic designs.

I'm hearing so much about how no one sees chemistry between the actresses, but...the scenes we got were so short and fly by so quickly that I would say, of course you didn't see it. There wasn't enough to go on. If there is one issue with this trailer is that I think they tried to put a lot into it to show nods to the original. You have to see the packs, Slimer, the firehouse, the Ecto. And because of that we weren't given a lot of the story or interaction between the actresses where the really funny stuff would come from. Feig himself has said in the past that he doesn't like to use all his jokes in the trailer and often uses different takes in the trailer to leave surprises.

I'm excited! It looks, visually, wonderful.

Depends of it does it like TFA or Superman Returns, but tbh I have no doubts I won't like this film. That trailer has killed any shred of hope I had that they would prove me wrong.

QFT.

The more women, the better. I have some women friends that are so pumped about this that they're planning on doing a group Ghostbusters costume theme this Halloween. That's awesome! Finally my geeky childhood obsession is getting some more love from the opposite sex.

But Feig was wrong for this. He may love the property as much as anyone else, but his style and his taste for comedy are just wrong. McCarthy and Jones are not a good fit for this material. The original crew (with the SLIGHT exception of Egon) weren't goofy cartoon characters. They were good characters with sometimes-quirky behavior. This new cast just seems so over the top for the sake of "being funny" it's not about good writing anymore. It's just about what kind of wacky thing can we get them to do or say?
