And for the record I have zero problem with a gender-swapped reboot. That was actually something I was genuinely interested in since it's such an unusual choice. But this is just dreck.

Kind of how I feel. I was actually quite excited to see the trailer was up but pretty disappointed at what I saw. maybe future trailers will look better though. Anythings possible.

I remember reading years ago that one of Dan Aykroyd's ideas for Ghostbusters III was for it to be a "passing of the torch" kind of movie, where the old guys train the new group. Perhaps if they had gone with this idea, I bet the reaction wouldn't be as negative.

Well, that sure was a weak trailer. Didn't really make me laugh, except for McKinnon's scenes. No idea who she is, but she's funny. At least it looks visually decent, better than the usual Feig movie does anyway.

And even then, I fail to see what's so inherently "horrible" or "awful" about it. Talk about overreacting, lol.

It kinda look like a bad Adam Sandler movie to me.
Not my kind of movie.

This probably would have less "hate" if this was an original ghost movie, I guess.

Personally i think even if it was in the same universe there would be more coolness to seeing all this nostalgia, you could have aykroyd cameo as ray in one scene and it would have been worth it without taking anything away from the new characters

Doing what they are doing now feels disrespectful even though they are obviously trying to be over respectful

Reboots usually don't faze me, and I couldn't care less about them being women. Actually, that made the idea of the movie stand out more for me.

Terminator easily, but like I said I'm not a big Ghostbusters fan.

Ghostbusters 1 and T2 are near flawless films imo. That said I've been able to watch Ghostbusters more through the years. It's up there with Back To The Future and Raiders for me as far as 80s classics and in my top 5 favs of all time. If I had to rank those films in order...

Ghostbusters, T2, Terminator then Ghostbusters 2.

It's closing in on 150,000 dislikes on youtube right now. This is like watching a car crash. I can't imagine what the marketing department at Sony are feeling right now. We're seeing a level of push back against a movie that I don't ever recall seeing before. Fascinating.

Apart from the obvious problems, especially with the Jones character, none of these characters are believable that they're scientists. The originals made you believe Egon, Ray and Peter were college scientists. Even Peter, who got called out on it by Dana (a game show host) was believable when it came down to it.

These ladies are not. Wiig looks like she's sleep walking, McCarthy's character is basically the same one from all her slapstick movies. And McKinnon as a mechanical engineer I assume. Yeah no. The only one that's believable is Jones, but she's loud and annoying.

That's an odd comparison, but the Terminator films. While I rank GB 1 and T2 as equals, Terminator 1 edges out GB 2.

A few questions:

1) As of now, is it the movie whose official trailer has the highest dislike/like ratio on youtube? Does anyone know any other movies that share the same "glory"?

2) It seems that Sony is deleting tons of comments for the trailer on youtube. I don't ever recall any film company doing that even though I have seen some really harsh comments on other movie trailers on youtube before.

3) If you were Sony, would you release another trailer before its launch? It is a tough one. I really don't know what I should do if it were up to me.

Jem and The Holograms like to dislike ratio was worse the this. But it got nowhere near the views.

With deleting comments it depends which ones, there's some flat out disgusting things being said.

Of course they need another trailer. This is a 150m dollar movie, they need to get people on board with the film. This specific trailer didn't cut it.

I don't even know what Sony does after this. No-one could have foreseen this level of negative response, not even the most harden critics of this reboot would have imagined this. I cant help but think that maybe the studio completely misjudged the difficulty they were going to have to overcome in getting people on board with this movie and the trailer just completely amplified that problem tenfold.

I'd say a start would be..

-Tone down the over the top yelling humor. It's just not working with the majority.

-Bring in stronger horror vibes

-Focus more on McKinnon.

-Ditch the misdirection that this is connected if it is indeed not.

Bloody hell, that was a shockingly bad trailer. I had my doubts about remaking a classic like Ghostbusters, but my lord, this looks worse than I imagined.

Also, if Leslie Jones wasn't in this, I would have automatically liked the trailer more.
