The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

I read the reddit review and it sounds absolutely horrid.

My opinion about FF is that it wasn't just fan outrage that kept it from doing well. FF just isn't that popular. No on really cared and negative reviews was the last straw. People care about GB and are very passionate, either in support or against. If tge reviews look decent, it will do well. If one things for sure, a lot of folks know it's coming.

The first Fantastic Four made over 300 million back in 05 with horrid reviews. There's clearly a fanbase for just about any Marvel character regardless of popularity.

After 2 crappy movies and horrible word of mouth for over a year on Tranks why would anyone pay for a film that was rated lower then Catwoman? Fantastic 4 had the lowest cinemascore for any comic property, but that doesn't mean people wouldn't be interested in a Fantastic 4 movie if it looked good.

Honestly, and its the little things that hook me

I hope the sound of the proton packs is what it should be

I need the hum of it turning on and that wooooshish sound when the beam goes

Honestly, I think we are about to find out what I suspected from the beginning about why this would be so hard.

The first film was too much of a lightning in a bottle moment.

I love all the minutia of GB but the ghost genre isn't much room for inventiveness. The proton packs, the traps, Ecto-1, Stay Puft, Slimer and the comedy were great but there's nothing in the new version that as inventive on its own as any of that in the new trailer at least.

Similar to zombies, ghost are hard to do. Scary or silly. Heck add a dog and this would be the recent Scooby Doo movies or that Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy.

I would agree on that, hell the original concept was Aykroyd and John Belushi as time travelling ghostbusters, and it morphed over time - the movies are what they are - the tv series made them a bit younger and everything more colorful

one of the cooler things to come out of the animated series was Samhain as a recurring villain IMO

I think this film can blaze its own trail, and if its a bad movie, its a bad movie, but if not, people will respond to it and it will move on

After that MIB-21 Jump St. stuff became true, my biggest worry is that this will do well (200 dom, 450 WW) which is great for a female lead action comedy. Not that there's much competition in that genre. lol

But Sony expected more and will push that Tatum version into action in desperation.

Ghostbusters is opening pretty close to Ice Age, Star Trek and Bourne. It needs good reviews and better marketing if it wants to make it to 400m ww. With the early hate, just banking on the name won't be enough.

Ice age isn't direct competition. Trek has its own bad buzz and I don't know what level people's interest in Bourne Is now.

Female comedies have done pretty well making money in competition to blockbusters.

Star Trek, Ice Age and Bourne are proven franchises for this generation.

They want kids and their families going to this, much like they do for TMNT. Ice Age will very well take away that demo. The last one made what almost a billion world wide? GB only has a week to make it's money. If wom of mouth sucks...kids, families, teens and adults will be seeing other films. There will be plenty out seeking the same audience.

Proven? Star Trek is trending downward and coming off a bad movie. Animated movies usually co-exist with live action without hurting each other. I'm not a Bourne fan so I have no idea where the fan base is in regard to hype. I thought that storyline was finished. Bourne isn't Bond.

And I don't think the last Bourne movie, devoid of Bourne, was well received. Still, Matt Damon is back. That's a toss up.

I can't address it because there are spoilers and I'm doing my best to avoid them. Plus, reading a description of a film is never going to equal watching the finished product. That being said, he starts with something along the lines of "It's as bad as the trailer." I actually laughed at the trailer and enjoyed it, so maybe it's good news to me!

So that's two folks we know had a screen test. One did not like it and one did. Hmmm.

Have you not seen the money these films make:huh:

All these films are beyond their first installment.

It's Jason Bourne. Not some spin off featuring other characters who were not in the original...that definitely helps.

Multiple films isn't the same as proven. Underworld has multiple films.

NuTrek has two films. One good one bad. The last Damon Bourne film was 9 years ago. Animated films don't usually hurt live action films.

I don't mind at all the cast being all females. But, they try so hard at promoting the gender equality that the movie seems to be more about political correctness than decent film-making. It would have been much better if there had been two male and two female ghostbusters. The chemistry among the four would be as great as in FRIENDS.

I am really fed up with this Hollywood trend of late. Maybe we should just genetic-engineer our next generation of babies, take away all their sexual characteristics and make the whole human race biologically gender-neutral. Then everyone will be "equally" happy and no one will cry for a male/female reboot.

87% critics and 90% of audiences liked it not what I would call bad.

Also it's worldwide box office was up(US was down)

so don't bury Trek just yet.

While I do like MaCarthy and McKinnon, I think this movie would be way better if the 'new' Ghostbusters were played by Jay Barchel, James Franco, Seth Rogen and Craig Robinson.

I wasn't. I didn't even know Trek was competition.

Feig's claim to fame has been making movies (Heat, Bridesmaid, Spy) that make money despite the usual blockbusters sitting all around them. That's why I gave it 200 million.

And I think there has been plenty of evidence that sequels to comedies that are so far removed by time, just do not work at the box office. So, as much as it may pain the hardcore, a complete reboot makes the most sense.

Am I the only one that doesn't classify GB as a 'comedy'? There's humor for sure and the main 3 actors have comedic backgrounds but i've never looked at Ghostbusters and thought of it as a comedy...

It'd be like referring to GoTG as a comedy as far as i'm concerned, which that movie isn't. It's a sci-fi action adventure with comedic elements.

Which when going back to this 2016 reboot is frankly one of the many criticisms, that it feels like a full blown comedy, which many fans attest is not what the franchise is.

Having four females isn't political correctness anymore than having two men and two women. Feig picked comedians to do a comedy. Shocking.

Feig responded to fans calling him out for casting female comedians. I doubt he would have even posted any pictures without the initial backlash.

I just read the Reddit review...read it at your own risk, because he is spot on. That's the version I saw, though I'd say the effects were only about 30% done.

Thanks for confirming that.
