My opinion about FF is that it wasn't just fan outrage that kept it from doing well. FF just isn't that popular. No on really cared and negative reviews was the last straw. People care about GB and are very passionate, either in support or against. If tge reviews look decent, it will do well. If one things for sure, a lot of folks know it's coming.
Honestly, and its the little things that hook me
I hope the sound of the proton packs is what it should be
I need the hum of it turning on and that wooooshish sound when the beam goes
Ghostbusters is opening pretty close to Ice Age, Star Trek and Bourne. It needs good reviews and better marketing if it wants to make it to 400m ww. With the early hate, just banking on the name won't be enough.
Ice age isn't direct competition. Trek has its own bad buzz and I don't know what level people's interest in Bourne Is now.
Star Trek, Ice Age and Bourne are proven franchises for this generation.
They want kids and their families going to this, much like they do for TMNT. Ice Age will very well take away that demo. The last one made what almost a billion world wide?

GB only has a week to make it's money. If wom of mouth sucks...kids, families, teens and adults will be seeing other films. There will be plenty out seeking the same audience.
Proven? Star Trek is trending downward and coming off a bad movie. Animated movies usually co-exist with live action without hurting each other. I'm not a Bourne fan so I have no idea where the fan base is in regard to hype. I thought that storyline was finished. Bourne isn't Bond.
I read the reddit review and it sounds absolutely horrid.

And I don't think the last Bourne movie, devoid of Bourne, was well received. Still, Matt Damon is back. That's a toss up.
Have you not seen the money these films make
All these films are beyond their first installment.
Multiple films isn't the same as proven. Underworld has multiple films.
NuTrek has two films. One good one bad. The last Damon Bourne film was 9 years ago. Animated films don't usually hurt live action films.
87% critics and 90% of audiences liked it not what I would call bad.

Also it's worldwide box office was up(US was down)

so don't bury Trek just yet.
And I think there has been plenty of evidence that sequels to comedies that are so far removed by time, just do not work at the box office. So, as much as it may pain the hardcore, a complete reboot makes the most sense.
I don't mind at all the cast being all females. But, they try so hard at promoting the gender equality that the movie seems to be more about political correctness than decent film-making. It would have been much better if there had been two male and two female ghostbusters. The chemistry among the four would be as great as in FRIENDS.
I am really fed up with this Hollywood trend of late. Maybe we should just genetic-engineer our next generation of babies, take away all their sexual characteristics and make the whole human race biologically gender-neutral. Then everyone will be "equally" happy and no one will cry for a male/female reboot.
I just read the Reddit review...read it at your own risk, because he is spot on. That's the version I saw, though I'd say the effects were only about 30% done.
