The New Ghostbusters - Part 8

Patty's character profile will give people a much better idea of who she is, than the damn trailers that only show her most extreme moments. I'm pretty sure every single one of her screaming scenes have been in the trailers.

For me that still doesn't help. She isn't funny in general on SNL and the fact that she has those loud extreme screaming scenes in the film just makes it worse.

This was one of the few funny moments in the film, too bad they had to use it in the trailer though. And that's not a knock on this film, all comedies use some of the best material in the trailers and I get it but you better have more of where that came from when you get people in the theater. This film does not.

RE: Judd Apatow. I've been a fan of his for years but he has always said stupid sh-t but it was forgiven because he made funny movies. Well he doesn't make funny movies anymore. Everything since Knocked Up - This is 40, Funny People, Trainwreck - have been mediocre at best.
He wants to be a modern day Albert Brooks but he's not even close. His writing and directing particularly on This is 40 and Funny People detiorated so self indulgently that it's hard to see that he's the same guy who made 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, though the latter was probably made better by Rogen and Goldberg (who have also started to follow the Apatow trajectory) Trainwreck was written by Schumer and that contained a lot of jokes she had been doing, and perhaps stealing, for years.

I've enjoyed the films you mentioned, though I haven't seen Funny People. I've also enjoyed all I've seen in the trailers and vignettes. I think I'm going to enjoy the film. I also enjoy the actresses.

Anyone catch Kimmel, tonight?

He had both casts on. Here's a clip of them rockin' out to Ray Parker Jr. performing the theme.

:awesome:

It would have been neat if Patty were actually a historian or history student that happened to be working in the subway to help pay for her tuition. Maybe connect her to Tobin, like Tobin's her ancestor.

They dropped the Oh people dont like the "new " Ghostbuster's because all of the main character's are women on Kimmel last night and
everyone complaining are haters or nerds
No ladies it's not that it just looks like a terrible movie with terrible jokes like i said before the CGI and SFX look great
but i dont want to see Chris Hemsworth looking goofy as he's possesed by a ghost,or the same running gag throughout a movie
It just looks like an embarrasment

I think the level of damage control they're doing is a red flag. If the movie really is decent, it should speak for itself.

The Original Ghostbusters on Jimmy Kimmel is nice and fun to see, its just frustrating they are obviously on there to promote the new movie that has no ties to the original team at all

Bill murray is weird one, he looked pretty happy being there and fully onboard with it all, he went on that award show in the ghostbusters outfit a while ago and also did the video game years ago... and yet he never seemed onboard with a ghostbusters 3

I dunno how this new movie is gonna go when it released, it could be received ok by critics but how the audience react to it... hmm... i dunno.

I was just about to post the same thing. It made them come off as pathetic and desperate for people to like this movie and pretty much saying "if you don't like our movie and complain about it, it's because you're a 45 year old nerd that lives with his momma"

The vignettes put out yesterday didn't help. McKinnon is the only one that's watchable in this whole movie.

And as far as the claim that Patty/Leslie Jones is only loud and obnoxious in the trailers, nope, she was loud and obnoxious in those vignettes and the interview with Kimmel. There's no "quiet" in her.

Im getting real tired of that fem crap tooof oh you dont like it because there females. I dont like it because of the director and actors except for mckinnon. The effects look ok but i keep getting pixels vibes.

Didn't look like damage control at all. Just tongue in cheek responses to the sexist comments question from Kimmel. Wasn't even a big focus of the conversation. They spent more time on the tattoos, the origin of Stay Puft, and how much Dan and Bill enjoyed the movie.

So you've seen the film I take it? Is it really that terrible?

AllEights and I both saw the test screening. They didn't like it. I did like it. We both tend to agree on the major strengths and weaknesses of the film though, so that's good.

I wouldn't say it's terrible but it certainly was not good or particularly funny, funny moments yes but not funny throughout.
I went with a party of four and we were split 50/50 on our overall opinion. I certainly don't fault anyone for liking it, it just didn't work for me and through the course of these threads have said why.
I will reiterate though that the trailers are showcasing Leslie Jones loud moments. Like Jake and I have said, she is not like that throughout the movie. Also people keep thinking McCarthy is doing her usual schtick that she does in all of her movies but she is actually pretty low key in this. It's a change of pace for those that find her usual routine grating.

Just wanted to say I appreciate your thoughtful critique of that cut of the film. Any chance you'd check out the final cut in theaters to see if your opinion changes? Curious to know how much has changed and whether or not completed music and sfx changes the tone any.

I'm sorry. This is a little bit offtopic. But I just rewatched the original Ghostbusters and I just noticed something that I haven't in 30 years. Maybe this is common knowledge, but has anyone noticed this?

If they want to combat bad buzz, they should be screening the movie instead of holding a month early interview. And how much Dan and Bill enjoyed the movie is damage control. It's two stars of the original speaking for it, but also two stars who have cameos in it.

It doesn't matter how many stars speak for the film. The film needs to speak for itself, which it isn't doing right now. If it was legitimately good, Sony should be screening it to unbiased crowds to get the word out. But right now, the only word to get out comes from people involved.

Yikes. Cringeworthy indeed. You wanna make someone feel uncomfortable, make them watch this.

I admit, I'm a goofball that loves these movies, and those actors. This gave me the nostalgia feels.

I love those actors and I love both the original GB films. This gives me cringe feelings haha.

i love how Bill is trolling the old ghostbusters fan. he says no to ghostbusters 3 ....which would only be made for money. no other reason. and then he gives a thumbs up for the reboot....films a cameo and goes on a talk show(of course to get a bigger paycheck) to promote the movie. and fans are asking why Bill :lmao:

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the way Sony casually threatened litigation as revealed by the Sony hack.
