Hey jake - I saw a review similar to the one posted here in opinion but more tame. Both of these reviews cite an anti-male agenda and I just don't get that from the screening we saw so I am not sure if things were majorly changed or these reviewers are looking through this with a certain prism. I heard that the stupid dance sequence has been dropped from the final cut though.
And as always agree with you, the character of Rowan, actor playing him, totally disposable.

I think the problem is that MOST of the characters are hostile towards the Ghostbusters in the film, and given that the "controversy" has been centered around gender it might be a matter of going in expecting men to be trashed.

Landis' treatment was never stated as god's word. He even says it was never a serious attempt. Writers tend to do that with spec scripts. It's called practice.

His GBIII treatment and (a bunch of his other treatments) are, while exceptional, Monday Morning Quarterbacking.

I would have really enjoyed his Ghostbusters 3.

I'm not a fan of Max Landis at all but I do think he would've been a good choice for a Ghostbusters reboot. The tone is right up his alley.

I would say I agree with this guy for the most part, but have to acknowledge that it's going to be very divisive. If you don't like Leslie Jones or Kate McKinnon, or Wiig or McCarthy, you won't like the movie. If you need it to have the exact same tone as the original, you won't like it. If you don't like the aesthetic of the Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters you probably won't like it.

If you can accept something different, that is based on Ghostbusters, and you like the lead actresses, then you'll probably enjoy the movie, even with the flaws. It's certainly not a great movie, but it's not the worst thing in the world with the Ghostbusters name on it.

Twitter Positive-Negative ratio is 3:1, which is pretty low. A movie with a moderate good hype is supposed to have way more, Star Trek Beyond is 21:1 for reference.

Guess the dance scene officially got relegated to the end credits. Apparently there's a quick cut of Hemsworth posing all the officers and army men, but it feels out of context when that scene was supposed to be in the film.

Not upset by this, but wonder if my opinion will change once I see the film.
