Properly rated. 94% on RT and made 110 million in the US and 235 million world wide.

I am with you Octoberist. The ending in the helicopter with the necklace. I missed the next two minutes of the film because I couldn't stop laughing uncontrollably. Everyone is fantastic in it, and it plays the tropes of the spy genre perfectly.Spy was...amazing. Dare i say underrated still.
This films has been hated from the start. By those that didn't want a reboot to Ghosbusters, to a bunch of online sexist pieces of trash.
If I remember correctly, Bridesmaids got a lot of early buzz because they showed it early. One of those films that was getting built up on good WOM. The Heat had Bullock and McCarthy while they were on fire in terms of BO. That is where the buzz came from.
I have not liked the advertising for this film. It feels like they have wanted to hit back and in the process alienated more people. When this was first announced, I was against it, but after Spy I was willing to give it a chance. This movie is in a weird spot. This who hate it or support it might do it for the wrong reasons. But if the movie's good, then it's good. Those who have been hating on it should realize defeat and soak it in, if there's quality there. People will respect you more. Don't blindly hate if it's a good product. That's just fake machismo and a sign of insecurity.
I don't see it as being any more hated than a ton of other remakes and reboots that continue to hammer people that people didn't want. I also don't recall Star Wars getting a record breaking number of dislikes on youtube for it revolving around a female protagonist either. As said, there's no doubt that that counts for a lot - but to the degree it got it, to me that's a feat.
I can see that having to do part of it. But I remember people saying the trailers looked good as well. It wasn't a train wreck that the marketing team created here.
Here's the thing. Name the last good to average film/s where the marketing team made it look like an unmitigated disaster, got a record number of dislikes on youtube, created such a situation that the press started to focus word around how many people hate what their seeing from the film. This reminds me of F4, but F4 - the marketing team couldn't do anything but horrible marketing because all they had to work with was a horrible movie. Here, I can't really think of the last time a marketing department has made an average to good movie receive this much negative word of mouth prior to the film even being reviewed and released.
Which is exactly why the reaction to this film has been clearly steeped in something other then it being a remake. Do you not see the contradiction here? Another unwanted remake, but gets the biggest reaction, by far, of all time. This wasn't a remake of Star Wars, Back to the Future or Gone with the Wind. It was a remake of a 80s comedy, that while I love, has kind of drifted into a bit of obscurity.I don't see it as being any more hated than a ton of other remakes and reboots that continue to hammer people that people didn't want. Just off the top of my head John Carter.

The really strong anti-reboot people aren't commenting.....
Vastly popular? It sells less then 7,000 copies a month (first issue was just under 10,000), and sells much less then the BTTF comic. You're claiming that Ghostbusters had drifted into obscurity? That's crazy when you consider there's a vastly popular on going comic book, and constant new merch coming out.
Until this year BTTF didn't have half of that. And Gone with the Wind is probably much more obscure now than the pop culture icons of the 80's and 90's.

Could you expand Lighthouse? You know, Rotten Tomatoes reminds me of "The Dark Knight", in that I really love both, but hate how the culture has reacted to it.
Already has a critic consensus? I thought they would wait until at least 100 reviews to get a consensus. A bit shady IMO
Yeah, but none of those are big tentpoles with over 200 reviews expected.I think it's quite early, but not uncommon. Plenty of films have consensus after less than 50 reviews (Fathers and Daughters, Zero Days, Captain Fantastic, etc.). Zero Days is already Certified Fresh after merely 35 Fresh reviews, Cell has consensus after 21 reviews (though all are Rotten).
Could you expand Lighthouse?
I'm very anti-reboot, I just lost the will to be angry enough to spam social media about it after so many years of waiting for Ghostbusters 3 while SONY made crap like Baby Geniuses 2...
