Not all of us have unlimited time and money to watch every movie we have a middling interest in to decide for ourselves if it's worthwhile.
Conversely, the tomatometer can make someone check out a movie they might have otherwise passed up (Fury Road being a big example).
I think the first half of Crystal Skull is actually solid (maybe not rock solid, but crystal solid). The second half is where it becomes schlock.

I just checked a minute ago and it's the same as in that pic.
After seeing how critics praised IDR in the beginning, then closer to release it plummeted - not going to get any hopes that the marketing just screwed this one over a lot. I'd love for that to be the case but from seeing how BvS and IDR started out in comparison to how it ended - just going to wait until it's closer.

I am guessing 50+% on RT. I figure a few reviewers will want to be "see sexist males, you were wrong, this is a good movie."
I think you missed that it is on the "top critics" tab.
Because they wanted it to be. There has been a big wave against it from the start.Considering that Paul Feig's a very consistent Director, i don't know why so many were expecting a Fantastic Four disaster. He's been one of the best mainstream comedy Directors in recent years.
Alright, even though it is early and the Top Critics is low, some people need to admit they are already surprised by this. Too many here thought this was a Fantastic Four or even BvS disaster. It clearly isn't.

What movies after 37 reviews where it was decently positive did we suddenly end up with a sub 30% RT meter? I am genuinely curious, how often has this happened? As said, for me it's way too early. If it stays I'm surprised and the marketing team needs to get fired a.s.a.p. However, I've seen it happen way too often that films get good to great reviews initially then fall like a sinking ship the closer it gets to the release date. So, I'm still going to remain cautious because I've been hit way too many times by jumping onto reviews too early on.

You need to name some. You said it was common. I don't think GL made it to 30 reviews fresh. It only ended up with 59 positive reviews. But say I give you that one. Where are the others?I remember Green Lantern even started off fresh. I don't know the exact numbers nor how to find the exact numbers. I also can't remember the last time there has been this big of a discrepancy between top critics and general critics. All I know is too many times have I been excited upon controversial films getting great reviews off the bat, then it falling apart on me. Thus, I'm going to remain cautious until it's closer. Not saying it will drop, but I'm not ready for another anvil in the face kind of experience that has sometimes come from me jumping at reviews the second they hit.

How did we get hit in the face by BvS (not a summer movie) and IDR, a sequel to a bad movie?Calm down Darth, this isn't an argument. All I'm saying is I'm going to be cautious. We had two other times of me getting hit in the face this summer alone - BvS and IDR. Some will remember be jumping up and down on the rooftops at the first drop of a hat with the IDR reviews. I'm going to wait this time so that I don't get pounded. If you don't want to, I couldn't care less. As said Darth, this isn't an argument, I'm not going to waste my time, and I couldn't care less if you agree with me or not because - this isn't an argument, I just personally don't want to get my hopes up too soon because I've personally been hit in the face way too many times over the years.

By the way, very good of your state something, then asked to back it up, you lose your mind.![]()
