The New Ghostbusters - Part 9

Do you think critics recommend movies they think are bad? I don't think they do. So a high RT percentage means most critics think it is a good film worth watching. Which is probably an even better barometer of overall quality then the average.

For you does a 90+ RT movie = a GREAT film? Because most people see 90% and assume its an all time classic. They do not see that to mean 90% recommend they should see the movie.

The marketing for this film has been perhaps one of the worse campaigns I can recall, all they did was piss people off and turn people against one and other, and regardless of the critical response one side was only ever going to end up vocally claiming victory. Again, **** this movie and the drama it has caused.

I think it means it is an overall very good film that many different types of people will enjoy. So yeah, a potential all time classic. Considering the films in the 90% from the last couple of years, it usually works out that way for me. TFA, Fury Road, Zootopia, CW, Finding Dory, Inside Out, The Jungle Book, etc.

I like how fans act like brats, and it is the film's fault. :funny:

Ahh, the Rotten Tomatoes scores are coming. There's my entertainment for the next few days. So, what is the critics issue this time? Bought by Disney? Pretentious snobs? I know, SJWs.

Though I will admit, as much as I am ready for this movie, I was kind of surprised to see the score in the 70s.

They are being safe because they don't want to be seen as sexist. And I am not joking. :funny:

The SJW excuse continues to make it's triumphant return.

I've never seen a movie get this much hate just for being a SIlly Summer comedy popcorn flick. Hell anybody that even says this is a good movie gets bashed its really ridculious I mean it's their opinion and they have a right to their opinion if ur going to be a punk about it don't go see the movie.

Pretty much this.

I doubt many of us are, but that doesn't inhibit the opportunity to poke a little fun.

Why people are acting like this is not under 50 reviews? And I mean everyone, including Rottentomatoes setting a consensus with so few reviews.

This thing could go either way yet in the tomatometer, and people are doing victory laps...

This movie is in a weird spot. This who hate it or support it might do it for the wrong reasons. But if the movie's good, then it's good. Those who have been hating on it should realize defeat and soak it in, if there's quality there. People will respect you more. Don't blindly hate if it's a good product. That's just fake machismo and a sign of insecurity.

You know they won't. There are just far too many people on these boards that'll refuse to give it any merit, and you know that.

Myself? I'm one of those people that wanted a legitimate GB3. When they busted out with this reboot I wasn't feeling it. I haven't liked a single thing I've seen from the trailers, clips and tv spots.

Having said all that, im still seeing the movie this coming weekend and if it's good, ill stand corrected. And thus far, the reviews have been good so that's quite encouraging.

Poking Fun is one thing but threatening somebody son and wishing they would get cancer is taking it a bit to far.

Because most were making this out to be the next Fantastic Four. That it wouldn't just do bad in the reviews, but would be completely devastated by them. And others are already blaming people not being afraid to criticize the movie as the reason for the positives. Being mixed, which at this point the score points to, is far, far better than what the haters were predicting.

Well the haters were going to hate this movie no matter what anybody said nothing was going to change their mind.

Exactly. This was going to be 15% at the highest was the mentality.

I think they were given a brief and followed it. Perhaps Feig even had a hand in it, I don't know. JJ Abrams doesn't make his own trailers, but he certainly goes over them before they are released. He has to approve them.

Typically it's an internal marketing team that outsources trailers, posters, etc. to other companies with the President of Marketing having final say over his team, but he has to report to the studio head and board members.

JJ, Spielberg, etc. I'd say are in a league of their own. They've repeatedly made excellent movies that continuously make bank so they have a large say in it. Feig, he has his own company so he has some say because of that but I'd say the President of Marketing and head ot the studio/board members have majority say. The more you make bank and consistently, the more say you have.

Which is why, as said, it could have resulted from lack of focus due to corporate shake ups that are going on within SONY right now following the leaks, that would complicate matters. But if that's all been settled now then I see no real excuse the markering department could have because rather than damage control they basically acted like a pyromanic kid in lighting fires.

LOL, I made jokes about Fant4astic, but I doubt any movie will get close to that in many years (I can't believe yet the score it got), but something around 50%, around the ID4 sequel or Genisys. Still, getting a better percentage (even with so few reviews counted) is little confort when lots of reviews are saying that is passable (with a 6.6 avg score).

And again with the few reviews thing, I mantain that is shady that RT is posting a consensus this early. They never do that, even when is almost unanimous praise at that point.

EDIT: Fant4astic boxoffice I think is possible (opening weekend, not the terrible legs)

Ouch, just checked, you mean the one from 2014 :hehe: But Fant4stic has over 100 more reviews, that's a much better sample for trainwrecks history. :woot:

I was anti-Fant4stic back then, I remember when it was dropping at 16% it was christmas already. Sinking to single digits is catastrophic, wildest dreams material.

To be fair, I think most did.

As for the consensus, big whoop. It can change. And does.
