The New Ghostbusters - Part 9

In all fairness, there are an awful lot of men that have a moral obligation to explain things to you. You get enough representation in film, and you should be happy with the handful of examples you get. Think of the men! Think of their struggle to keep women from thinking they can be smart, funny, and bust ghosts!
For the first two sentences I thought you were being serious. I feel bad for thinking that. :funny:

I dont care about your article, you brought up female roles and im telling you we just had an unknown female lead a movie to over a billion dollars and become a household name. Not to mention fans demanded more toys of rey.

And a fairly loud contingent dismissing Rey as a Mary Sue.

You want statistics? Go look at the films I listed. For the suppose star wars fan here Im quite shocked.

Also here is a stat my top 3 films all had unknown females at the time and became household names who can sell movies.
Is English not your first language? I understand female leads work. I champion them. My problem is they don't get enough of these roles. And your answer is look at these three roles, which is a clearly a bad argument answering a question no one disputes here. That makes the fact that women only make up 33% of speaking roles, 22% of lead roles, in the top 100 films from 2015 worse. There is no money making excuse.

And Kate Winslet and Zoe Saldana were not unknown actresses at the time. But you'd have to actually watch their films to know that.

Dismissing her is one thing, but I actually think the criticism of her as a Mary Sue has some validity. It's a pretty terrible term itself, but in the classic use of "someone who seems to be good at everything", I think there is some merit there.

If you ignore her being self-conscious, not willing to embrace her destiny, being captured (three times) and being knocked out with one move being good at everything. :o

Truth is any kind of attempt in changing attitudes about these things is always going to be seen as pandering. There is some weird illusion that everything is an even playing field, and that problems don't exist and shouldn't be addressed.
Yes. It is like acknowledging the problem, trying to fix it in and of itself is some sort of problem.

The three roles are an example, i can name more if u want.

Let me guess you were just the biggest Zoe and kate fan pre avatar and titanic?

My favorite word I've learned during this idiocy is "mancott" because it's more manly than "boycott".

Well I have to say, this discussion has been very theraputic to read through
Thanks to the blind denial of some haters towards the crappier elements of fandom (don't get me wrong, I'm still a Nu-GB hater at heart), and the smug superiority of some defenders, I've now reached my limit of f***s to give, and can enjoy the rest of my summer happily oblivious to this film existing :o:woot:

Which is why you needed to come here and say that?

You do realize that Winslet was in three Oscar nominated flicks before Titanic right? Sense and Sensibility won a few, and Winslet was nominated for best supporting actress. She was the winner of Empire's best British actress twice before Titanic.

Saldana was in Pirates, Star Trek and quite a few other films before Avatar, where you never even saw her face. :funny:

In other words, you couldn't be more wrong about them being unknown. Daisy was unknown.

And how do your explain away the amount of actual roles for women in these films?

I wanted to show you how much I don't care by going out of my way too tell you. Because I don't care, which is why I came back. :funny:

Look at those selfish little kids. Enjoying their childhoods at the expense of so many disrespected ones, blissfully oblivious to the fact that this movie is an offensive symptom of Hollywood's lack of originality, and thus should have never been made in the first place.

If only I could take the happiness out of their hearts, show them the error of their ways. But I can't. They will have a good time, and I can't do anything to stop it.

I'm lost. The claim that the movie going audience hates GB because of the female cast was dropped because of the examples of successful movies with female leads? 'Cause it looks like it conveniently morphed to "since they are successful there should be more" to avoid accepting that GB must be hated for some other reason

The thing is remakes don't effect the originals, anymore than poor sequels do.
There is exactly one case where sequels effected the originals, and that is Star Wars. Lucas went back and changed things, and then tried to purge the originals from existence.

The idea has never been the majority hate these movies because of women. We are talking about the reaction, type of hate and amount of reaction. Remember, the majority of men aren't sexist and the global is more then half female.

Avatar - December 18, 2009
Star Trek - May 8, 2009

True but if your remaking the original itself that started it all they will rub people the wrong way most of the time. Its inevitable
