Wasn't there a time when we were glad to see the dark and gritty crap of the 90's come to an end? Did it just never leave and we convinced ourselves otherwise?

I think we were happier to see mass productions of Liefield come to an end.

Talking Liefeld, what ever happened to Shatterstar? Deadpool should of topped him back in the day, the lame-o.

Shatterstar is currently a member of X-Factor with a haircut and his lips locked with Rictor's.

Really? Ehh I thought he'd fade into obscurity once the 90s were done. He used to annoy the hell out of me.

In fact, looking back, all the old school x-force used to annoy me. Even when Deadpool uses to show up it was pretty cringe worthy. Apart from when he beat the **** out of Shatterstar :D

He did fade into obscurity. He just popped up a few issues ago in X-Factor under mind control and trying to kill the team. The mind control wore off, and...

I love that Liefeld got all pissed about it. Hooray for homophobia, Robbie!

No, they've just decided to have all the characters suddenly decide murder is a-okay. It's not grim and gritty if no one's bothered by it! :awesome:

Cyclops has a murder squad. There's an Avengers team filled with sociopaths.

Steve "Moral subjectiveism is bull****" Ditko would be rolling over in his grave if he wasn't still alive.

Well I am all for a bit of the old "ultra violence" and murder and mayhem.

But not when it's characters that stood up for the complete opposite in their original incarnations.

Sure they should also adapt to the times and the situations, but the X-Men having a brutal wet works squad has never really sat right with me. Don't get me wrong the new X-Force is an entertaining read, but why make them an official group of X-Men? They could of been a rogue off shoot of them or something. Originally tasked with dealing with situations quietly with killing as a last resort, but going over the edge.

I read this book recently called "Tiger Force" about a recon unit in Vietnam who spent so long in the bush without breaks, they went a bit mental and became a assassination squad. I think that would of been cool story to apply to X-Force or something.

That would be cool. They could cut out all that going mental stuff and just say X-Force is an assassination squad because Wolverine's on it. I mean, it's basically the same thing.

I think he's going to be PART of X-Force.

The sad part is, he'll probably have more morals than the rest.

Depends whose writing. I imagine they'll just use him as comic relief and for killing things.. No real character moments

I don't think there was anything homophobic about Liefed's reaction. As crappy a writer/artist Liefeld is, and as crappy a character Shatterstar is - he came out and said he had "nuthin' but love" for the gay community. He cited creator's intent for why he would want to "undo" the... gayness. Like all Liefeld comics, it would suck, but I don't think it's fair to call his statements homophobic.

Then again, I'm sure Lee, Kirby, Simon, Shuster and Siegel et al. wouldn’t have wished for those awful, awful derivatives of the characters they created to appear in Liefeld's work. I wonder how much creator's intent matters to Rob when he's plotting the latest issue of SMASH!

Yeah ...apparently I can't actually say anything vaguely positive about Liefeld without at some point taking the piss, but I did try.

If he ends up in X-FORCE, I'd say that sounds about right - but Deadpool worked well in that capacity for Kyle/Yost in HULK VS. WOLVERINE. I'd like them to get him in the book.

And that's all we can expect of you, is at least you tried. :( /pats shoulder

What war was Stark injured in to make him make the iron man suit? Is Vietnam still in continuity? Im confused seeing as Extremis portrays it as being a middle eastern conflict, but that doesnt really make sense to me considering since it happened "more recently" for all his other stories to take place in that gap.

I think they're just making it some generic Middle Eastern conflict. It was in Afghanistan now, though.

Well the main thing that confuses me is that we know so much has happened in between him getting injured and the present day. If it was a modern conflict, it just seems a lot happened to him in a short amount of time.

Actually, by making it some random middle eastern conflict, it could have happened at any time during the 80's and 90's.

Thats true i guess im just having a harder time wrappin my mind around the slower movement of time in the MU.

It's just him fronting his weaponry in some part of the world which has been known for decades to have military issues and government intervention. The Middle East is the perfect place for that, without tying it to a war without political reasons, as it was originally in Vietnam to start Stark's career in bashing commies.

Truth be told they coulda kept it in those parts. The area around vietnam and some of those pacific islands is still a s**t hole. I mean, didn't anybody see that last Rambo movie?

Yeah, and it rocked.

However, I think they wanted it to be relevant to today's youths. New readers and all.

And the movie.
