.Dedicated to all of those who've come before - and all who will follow.

The lines have been drawn. Decades following the last known metahuman vigilantes, heroes and villains alike have made their impact upon the modern world. But in the shadow of a brave and bold culminative effort by the world's greatest protectors, not everyone is happy to have a Justice League watching over Earth - because just when hope was beginning to make it's triumphant return, a collective evil has made it's counteractive strike.

While the city of Metropolis recovers from a devastating extraterrestrial attack, the hero known as Superman has been shown the true colors of his worst and most dangerous enemy yet - multi-billionaire Lex Luthor, who possesses both the key to the Man of Steel's downfall and the resources to determine the fate of the world itself. Central City's young scarlet speedster, The Flash, knows nothing of what awaits him as Dr. Roscoe Dillion helps assemble a group of superpowered cons hired to go Rogue against the city's denizens. In Gotham City, the vigilante Batman awaits the rematch of a lifetime as a vengeful presence lurks just beyond the shadows, following the sudden murder of the city's top crimelord and the shooting of it's corrupt Commissioner. And while these events have not yet changed the outlook of Earth's heroes, one event has, as Diana Prince - Wonder Woman, has just found the love of her life violently murdered by what seems to be an enemy from her recent past.

Even in space, things are determined to get worse before they get better. Following an onslaught of the undead that nearly crippled them, the interplanetary peace force established as The Galactic Lantern Corps (GLC) struggle to rebuild their empire of peace and justice across the universe. But while they remain unprepared for the threat of impending dangers, several of their own have shown the capacity to turn renegade - some more obviously than others.

The question still remains. Now that we have our heroes, can they overcome the evil that threatens to overthrow the world?

. How To Play .

This RPG is based off of a player-created continuity dealing with a modern revision of the DC Universe, similar to Marvel's Ultimate imprint. Outside of the above, and what the players themselves create, there is no pre-established continuity. As players, it will be your job to take the basic ideas and characters of the DCU, and accordingly reinvent them into however you see fit. Though it is your choice of how drastic the alterations should be, you are free to customize everything from a character's origin to motivations, identity, mannerisms, costume, powers, and world. Let your imagination run wild.

To apply for a character, fill out the application supplied below. If your application is rejected, do not despair! Simply rework what the Gamemasters tell you is wrong with it, or in the case of multi-applications, choose another character. All players are welcome, regardless of membership status or postcount.

. 12 Rules To Play By .
1. You may choose any character appearing in the DC Universe, or an imprint of DC Comics (IE: Vertigo, Wildstorm), and revamp them for Ultimate continuity. Any character appearing outside of DC, such as Marvel or Image characters, will not be allowed.

2. You are allowed a maximum of two characters. Though it is advised that you stick to one, especially at first, you will be allowed a second if you believe you can handle the responsibility.

3. You must post at least once every two weeks, though it is preferred you post more, or your character will be up-for-grabs. Failure to post after a month will result in removal from the roster.

4. PC's are not to be killed without permission. Nameless NPC's are fine, but PC's or important NPC's will require authorization. Don't do anything random, such as destroying the universe, either. Such behavior is frowned upon.

5. Several storylines can be going on at once, in order to interact with other players. If a player's character does not want to be involved in another's storyline, they do not have to. Consultation and communication are the keys to a good PC-to-PC interaction.

6. Sidekicks and legacy characters will be required to be permitted by the player orchestrating the mentor's role in UDC. For instance, if you want to play Superboy, your acceptance will hinder on the player playing Superman, and his thoughts.

7. You can travel anywhere on Earth or off-planet, provided it is within your character's means. Time-travel is forbidden, unless it is specifically required of your character choice. (IE: Booster Gold, Rip Hunter, The Legion of Super-Heroes)

8. You are your character, so act like them. Create or portray their mannerisms, powers, and ideals to how they have been established in the game. BE the character - do not, under any circumstances, play yourself as the character.

9. Respect the Gamemasters. If they make a request of you regarding the game, listen to them. Failure to adhere to GM, AGM, and Hype! Moderator requests will result in expulsion from the game.

10. Be creative, and do not be afraid to try new and exciting things with old concepts. This is a new continuity - the laws of the regular DC Universe are not set in stone.

11. All regular Hype rules apply.

12. And finally, the most important rule of all: Have fun. Never take the game too seriously, or you will have lost the point. Heated arguments between players can result in probation or infractions - do not ruin it for other players. It is only a game.

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Batman (Bruce Wayne)

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: While possessing no superhuman powers, Batman boasts a keen intellect and prime physical prowess. His arsenal of customized weaponry is funded by a vast family fortune, aswell as a generous income as an affiliate of Waynetech, a self-owned electronics' conglomerate. In addition, his experiences across the world have gained him invaluable skills as a martial artist and detective, making him a formidable urban crimefighter.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Witnessing the murder of his parents at a young age, Bruce Wayne was adopted by his socialite uncle Phillip Wayne and made the prodigy of an economic empire. But after becoming consumed with grief and vengeance throughout his teenage years, running afoul of the law on numerous occassions, Phillip shipped Bruce off to the military to quell his anger into productivity. His training soon became an outlet, clarifying Wayne's mind and ultimately driving him towards a far more intricated mission - and soon after serving a brief tour of duty, Bruce set off for greater things, travelling the world in search of it's best warriors to help hone his mind and body towards the pursuit of those goals. But while his crusade was steeped into giving back to his fellow man, vengeance soon creeped it's way back into Bruce's psyche after tragedy once again struck him down. His first and greatest love, aswell as the daughter of his most prominent mentor, was murdered in the midst of a hunt for a dangerous assassin named David Cain.

Fueled by his outrage against crime, but tempered by his experiences, Bruce returned to his home of Gotham City as a man. And after the passing of his uncle, the nephew inherited the great fortune that would help him acquire the technology he needed in order to wage a nightly war against corruption. Adopting a disguise based off of foreign myth and superstition, Bruce Wayne assumed his rightful place as the mysterious protector of Gotham's citizens known only as The Batman.

.The burning question - Why this character?: At this point, it goes without saying why I personally chose him. But the actual reason that I'm excited to continue playing the character is that I still have so much that I want to do, and many unfulfilled promises left over from the first season's concept. My goal is definitely to develop Bruce Wayne a little more, but also bring a greater distance between this version of Batman and iterations of the past.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: I still have a desire to explore Bruce's darker side, giving into vices that the Bruce Wayne of the normal DCU would never dare to engage in. But I also want to flesh out the relationships with his friends and extended family, such as Alfred - who I intend to make more of a character than a plot device, Dick Grayson - who'll eventually take a larger role in Batman's work, Selina Kyle - who Eddie Brock and I intend to develop into a huge part of Bruce's life, and others, such as Jason Todd, Helena Bertinelli, Lucius Fox, and Leslie Thompkins. You'll also see Batman struggle to cope with the rise of his traditional rogues gallery, both PC'ed and NPC'ed, giving the Gotham mythos a greater sense of danger than ever before.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: I have a deep and extensive knowledge of the Batman pantheon, so this is an area where I know my stuff. I also intend to continue developing each supporting character almost as well as Bruce himself, with as many quality storylines that I can hopefully provide to entertain anyone that enjoys my writing.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

It was if the city had opened it's eyes.

From high on above the towers and gargoyles that aligned Gotham City's skyline, he stood in darkness, listening intently as the capabilities of his new costume guided him through a brand new perspective of the world. Having intergrated the cowl with a direct link feed to his artificial intelligence program, The Oracle, he could now broaden his scope and his attention with a simple voice command. Satellite computer wavelengths pushed themselves through every corner of the city's blackened streets - downloading every minute, sending him up-to-the-minute information about every happening he cared to know about. Were he another man, he'd probably be amused by the irony of his new power: The scope of blind sonar, just like his namesake.

The technology had transformed him. No longer was he a simple costumed vigilante. He was now a master of the city itself - a Dark Knight for it's helpless, and an all-seeing dweller of the night.

Now the real work begins, He thought to himself, after running through several manual tests to make sure his inventions were running as structurally they needed to. Sparing himself seconds for last minute touches to his new armor, he stood atop the ledge of the towering Gotham Clocktower with a new sense of terror about his shadowy form. Reborn, in every instance, from what had come before now. Then he leaped. And in the instant, all doubt left, as the sensation empowered him.

He was now one with the city he protected.

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .

Character Application

.Screen name: Andy C.

.Character you wish to portray: Lex Luthor, the greatest criminal mind of all time!

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Villain. Hooo boy, is he a villain.

.Powers and physical attributes: Luthor has no paranormal abilities or alien heritage, nor does he need them. What he has instead is a mind so advanced, so quick, so horrifyingly vast, that many believe he may very well be the next stage of human evolution. That intelligence, along with his uncanny business sense and unmatched charisma, has given Luthor the largest fortune in the world, allowing him to develop technology and weapons so advanced they might as well be magic, as well as legions of dedicated and loyal followers on virtually every level of society. There is virtually no place in Metropolis where Lex Luthor does not have eyes, ears, and weapons at the ready.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):
From the original app:

Andy C. said:
The prodigal son of industrialist Lionel Luthor and his wife Lillian, Alexander was always both gifted and cursed by his astounding intelligence. While it was certainly impressive that he was able to read at a high-school level before entering kindergarten, his social development suffered for it. His twin brother Julian regularly beat him up throughout their childhood, a result of feeling threatened by him. The other schoolchildren did the same. His own mother was honestly afraid of him; while she would comfort him and tell him he was 'special,' every day in the back of her mind, there was a growing dread that her boy was becoming something terrible. Lex's father, on the other hand, was all too eager to feed the boy's ever-accelerating mental development, never bothering to look at his son's present but rather his future. In Lex, Lionel saw greatness.

And so the family would pack up and move across the globe, wowing the heads of prestigious institutes, becoming the toast of the world's leading techno-centric hubs, doing everything they could to keep Lex on the fast track to success. Julian suffered for it, never getting to have any friends before having to move again, never getting out from under his brother's shadow, never having an identity or life of his own. At age sixteen, Julian hanged himself, and his death was the first time since infancy that Lex felt genuine emotion.

Seeing the need to move to a more wholesome atmosphere for a while, the Luthors decided to finish Lex's education in a small, friendly rural community in Kansas called Smallville. Lex even enrolled in a public school for the first time, begging his parents to give him the chance to live like a regular teenager. Still used to flaunting his brain-power and being treated like a celebrity in the science community, he came off to most as arrogant and condescending, which only alienated him even more. The only person he could really relate to on any personal level was a particularly gifted farm boy by the name of Clark Kent, although Lex never really considered himself a friend--frankly, he never learned how to make friends, or saw the need for them at all. Everyone else shunned him quietly, and he in turn despised them openly. While it was meant to brighten up his life after his brother's death, Lex's time in Smallville only made his thoughts and feelings darker.

While in Kansas, he did find one thing that kept him intellectually stimulated: a sample of unbelievably rare extraterrestrial mineral that had landed there as part of a freak meteor shower some years prior. Absolutely fascinated by the incredible amounts of energy given off by the rock--and its remarkably clean radiation--he set to work on testing its potential applications.

Tragically, his experiments the rock would lead to disaster, as an overloaded circuit would eventually cause an explosion that utterly destroyed the Luthors' home. He suffered second- and third-degree burns on over half of his body, disfiguring him completely. His mother and father did not survive the blast at all. With all of his family dead and his research ruined, Lex had no reason to remain in Smallville, and would practically disappear for almost five years.

At the age of twenty-three, Lex Luthor unexpectedly re-appeared on the Metropolis scene. Having undergone several rounds of extensive plastic surgery, his burn scars were completely gone--along with his hair and eyebrows, unfortunately.

Far more remarkable, however, was the transformation of his personality. Gone was the introverted, demeaning, almost misanthropic walking-brain that had driven so many people away. Now, Lex was a smooth talker, a wild playboy, a shrewd businessman, and a natural showman, all without losing a shred of his staggering brilliance. People from all walks of life began to gravitate toward him, practically worship him, and within a year of his taking the helm, he Lex had taken the floundering LuthorCorp (now re-christened as LexCorp) and made it one of the most profitable companies in America. After another year, it was the most profitable company in the world. Tens of thousands of patents flowed from the newly-constructed LexCorp Tower in Metropolis, ranging from city-spanning energy shields and self-sustaining space stations, to a more efficient toaster.

What made many uneasy, however, was the intricate web of connections Lex began weaving with a myriad of organizations. Private military contractors, 'community outreach' programs in cities across America, major media outlets, banks and financial firms, all churning out praise for Luthor and his new movement simply known as "Society." Several Senators and Representatives began passing suspicious bills that seemed only to benefit LexCorp or its many, many subsidiaries. Critics began either drastically changing their tone or suddenly finding themselves out of work. While there were many who had doubts about Luthor's plan for America, there were few who could truly oppose him.

Until Superman arrived.

Bursting onto the scene with all the pomp and pageantry of a mythological god, Superman began breaking people's devotion away from Luthor, and little by little, began exposing Luthor's true motives. While there were still many in the country who would believe anything Lex said, Superman's mere presence and defiance began sprouting a grassroots campaign against the Society, spurred on by the infuriatingly popular Daily Planet. What began as simply a freakish do-gooder became a massive stumbling-block for Lex's designs.

Three years later, Lex Luthor is growing more powerful than ever, but has to fight tooth-and-nail for every bit he gets. He has devoted almost all of his attention to discrediting and destroying the alien, and while he maintains his cool and suave demeanor on the outside, his repeated failures to oust Superman are turning him into a fanatical maniac on the inside. He is raising an army to do his bidding, and has unthinkable weapons at his disposal. Lex Luthor believes the only solution is all-out war on Superman. And in his mind, the spoils are the very future of the human race itself.

Since then, Luthor was behind the creation of the Society, a cabal consisting of the most powerful and influential people on the planet, in response to the arrival of Superman and the other superhumans. His belief that the world should be molded by his design. led him to the devising and enacting of the Manhattan Project, using the captive and mind-erased Doctor Manhattan to cause a global blackout, then unleashing a world-wide nuclear strike that would cause global devastation, allowing the Society to rebuild the world as they see fit.

As our story resumes, Luthor is less than one minute away from global catastrophe and world domination.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Because I really and truly love Lex Luthor, particularly as a polar opposite of Superman. Whereas Clark is a demigod who thinks of himself as a humble country boy who does the right thing because it's the right thing, Luthor is a mortal man who believes himself to be a being of destiny, the figurehead of his own personal religion. Plus, playing Lex allows me to come up with some absolutely wonderful evil schemes.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Most importantly, Lex Luthor will actually be doing stuff. In virtually every major event that DC does, Lex gets shunted down the card for whoever the villain-du-jour is, and even in the RPGs, he's usually reduced to sitting in his office twiddling his thumbs while someone else gets the spotlight. Considering that Lex is in the process of causing a nuclear holocaust and seizing control of the entire planet now, I finally get to bring the bald bastard front and center as the biggest threat in the Ultimate DC universe.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: A villain that can be a large-scale threat over and over and over again, as well as a complex and hopefully engaging look at how far a 'messiah' figure can fall. Also, I can make a bowl of chili that will knock you on your ass.

"Amazing, isn't it?" Lex Luthor said as he stared admiringly at the glowing green jewel on his ring. "It's a radioactive isotope of extraordinary energy, with a signature that is completely harmless to anyone without the same base chemical structure--as in, anyone not from the same planet as the rock itself. Which means, this is a little souvenir from your homeworld, Superman. What was it called, I wonder?"

"...K-.....Krypton...." Superman said, his breath coming in ragged gasps, powerful waves of nausea rising up through him as he withered in the presence of the poisonous rock.

"Krypton....very dramatic sounding name. I suppose it's only fitting that this little gem here bears the same name. Kryptonium? Kryptonogen? Kryptonite? Yes, that sounds perfectly good. This little pebble of Kryptonite reacts with your cellular structure in such a way that it releases all of that stored energy you've got in there and causes the cells to break down. It's going to be a very, very painful death, I'm afraid, but fortunately for you, a relatively short one. I'd say you have maybe ninety seconds left."

Luthor adjusted the timer on his watch, simultaneously linking it with the combined nuclear arsenals of the world's major countries.

"In ninety seconds' time, Superman dies, and the world itself comes crashing down, to be molded back in my image."

He looked over to the horrified Lois Lane, who seemed torn between looking for a way out of the lunar base and finding a sharp object to jam into Lex's throat.

"I do hope you're getting all this, Miss Lane. After all, your words will be the ones that tell the world my story, of what I had to do to create the paradise that's coming. I find that reporters have a better sense of capturing the moment than historians, don't you?"

With that, Luthor walked over to the conference table and sat down at its head, turning his chair towards the window and the Earth below. With the captive Lois Lane at one side and the sickened and dying Superman at the other, Luthor allowed himself a genuine smile.

"Sixty more seconds.....then, the world is mine."

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Inspector Edward Nygma

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking The Line

.Powers and physical attributes: No powers, but Nygma has a brilliant intellect and is an expert detective with training in firearms. In addition to his police skills, Nygma is a master people-reader and manipulator.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):
Born in Glasgow, Kentucky on October 17th 1972 to parents Joesph and Mary Nygma, Edward Frank Nygma grew up in an abusive home with his ultra passive mother and mentally ill father.

Nygma was constantly breated by his father while his mother stood by, too afraid to defend her son. His father mentally and phsyically abuse also extended to his mother, who never told anyone about her husband's behavior and always let him get away with it. His mother took her own life on December 23rd, 1982 when Nygma was ten years old. Leaving Edward alone to be victimized by his father, who abused Edward to mask the jealousy of his son's superior intellect.

Nygma was constantly picked on in school, his reserved nature and social awkwardness made him easy prey.

Graduating from high school, Nygma enrolled at a nearby community college. As soon as Nygma turned 18, he promptly had his father committed to the same insane asylum Sue had been in. Nygma never visited his father and let him waste away in the mental hospital, justice in Nygma's mind for all the years of abuse. Joseph Nygma died in 1996, a shell of the man he had once been.

After a life of being picked on and being the butt of jokes, Nygma opted for respect the quickest way he could think of. He became a Sheriff's Deputy for Barren County, Kentucky, and helped police his home county.

While in the service of the sheriff, Nygma quickly learned he had an eye for human weakness and for reading people. He soon became a detective and excelled capturing criminals and interrogating them.

In 1998, Nygma was investigating a kidnapping/murder of a little girl. The little girl's features reminded him of his mother. He dove head-first into the murder, becoming consumed by it. He devoted every waking moment to the case. His co-workers saw a change in him and he was put up in psychic evaluation. Nygma was diagnosed with manic-depressive disorder and spent some time in the same mental hospital his father had died in.

He was discharged from the sheriff's department and Nygma spent the next two years doing odd-jobs around Glasgow. It was in late 2000 Nygma read about job openings in the Gotham City Police Department. Captivated with the idea of solving big city murders, Nygma packed his bags and left Kentucky for Gotham. Applying for a job, he left out the part about his mental disorder. He was accepted and began working as a patrolman. After a few years of walking a beat, Nygma became a detective working robbery. He quickly graduated to homicide and was promoted to Sergeant.

Working in Homicide, Nygma had his first, but not last, brush with a serial killer. Nygma worked the case of the Hangman, a serial killer who lynched his victims all throughout the summer of 2004. Nygma led SWAT through the door of suspect John Lees, who had a gun in his hands and pointed at the cops. With no choice, Nygma shot and killed Lees. Evidence to Lees guilt was found and he was posthumously branded as the Hangman.

For his efforts, Nygma was awarded a promotion to Lieutenant and became second-in-command with the Major Crimes Unit. In 2007, Commissioner James Gordon gave Nygma a risky assignment. He was to go undercover as a corrupt cop and provide intel and services for the Maroni Crime Family. Family don Salvatore "The Boss" Maroni welcomed Nygma with open-arms and soon began to trust the cop and confide in him.

After a questionable action from Gordon, Nygma began investigating him and soon discovered the skeletons in Gordon's closet. Teaming up with the vigilante Batman, undercover officer Selina Kyle, and detective Vic Sage, Nygma began a massive investigation into a criminal conspiracy that included the mob, high-ups in the GCPD, and a serial killer known as Holiday.

During the Holiday investigation, Nygma and Kyle had their cover with Maroni blown. The mob boss put a hit out on them and the two had to go underground to survive.

After a nine month investigation, Nygma and Sage arrested Holiday with Batman's help. Holiday turned out to be Police Lieutenant Michael Akins. Akins' plot revolved around avenging the murder of his son, who died at the hands of a hitman hired by the mob and Gordon.

Finding out Holiday's true motives, Nygma made a truce with Gordon and destoryed all evidence to Gordon's involvement with Holiday's creation. Nygma then manipulated Sage, blackmailing with information that he was moonlighting as a masked vigilante. Sage quit the police force in disgust and Nygma was promoted to Inspector, given the charge of being in command of all detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division.

In the aftermath of the Holiday investigation, Internal Affairs Lieutenant Mackenzie Bock investigated Nygma's practices with the help of District Attorney Harvey Dent. Afraid of what the investigation would uncover, Nygma asked for Gordon's help in getting Bock off the case. After Gordon and his thugs beat Bock, DA Harvey Dent swore to work harder on the case and put Nygma and Gordon behind bars.

His back against the wall and feeling pressue from Dent and Maroni, Nygma took care of them in one night. Leading a raiding party to the Gotham Ritz during his niece's wedding, Nygma caused panic and chaos and allowed Maroni to slip away to his office, where Nygma met him and killed the mob boss by pushing him out a window. After that, he drove to Dent's house and firebombed it with molotov cocktails, attempting to kill the rightous DA.

Sickened by his actions, Nygma is left with the thought that he's become two of the men he hates the most: Jim Gordon and his father.

.The burning question - Why this character?:

Nygma is probably my favorite character I've ever had a chance to play in any RPG bar none. I've never had as much fun with a character as I had with him.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?:
He won't be thrusting his groin while dancing around in skin tight green spandex and creating goofy riddles for Batman to figure out. I don't have any desire to turn him into a would-be supervillain like he is in the comics. Instead, I'm taking the character and taking him down a different path. He's still a man consumed by mysteries, riddles, and his desire to be perfect....he just goes about that in a real different way.

I will say this much, Riddler will make an appearance this season. :cwink:

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Big fan of the Batman mythos and a decent writer with a few years experience in these RPGs.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

She looks like an angel.

That's the first thing I think about when I look at the body.

911 got a call two hours ago about a dead body in a field off Freemont. Patrol showed up, then the two detectives Homicide dispatched, then the rest of the Homicide shift and their CO, a few detectives from the MCU, and finally me. As the head of CID, I'm only called in to supervise on major cases.

This seems to be one of those times.

Our victim is a woman, cut in half at the waste. Her genitals have been cut out and cuts are all racked up and down both halves of her body. All the blood in her body has been drained out, causing her body to become dull and gray, all devoid of life. Her pale is framed by bright red hair. It's all over her face, covering her lifeless eyes.

She looks like Sally Mae Jones. The girl from twelve years ago that broke me. She looks like my mother. Mary Nygma, 1956 to 1983. R.I.P.

I squat down nex to the body and use the end of a pencil to brush the hair from her face.

"Who were you, sweetheart, and who killed you?"

Batman and Lex are appppproved!

.Screen name: Andy C.

.Character you wish to portray: Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Imbued with divine abilities and tools crafted by the gods, Wonder Woman has incredible strength and speed, and can fly through the air on invisible wings. An embodiment of Truth and Liberty, she can see the truth in all things, making her immune to illusion or mind control. Her Gauntlets of Victory are impervious to all attacks physical or magical, and her Lasso of Justice can reach into the minds of the wicked. The form of Wonder Woman is one that must be summoned, however, and in her human form Diana Prince is still very mortal.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):

(From the original app)

Andy C. said:
There was a time, not as long ago as Men would like to think, when the Gods had the power to shape the Earth. They had this power because Men believed in them, called upon them for protection from the Monsters of the dark. The Gods and the worlds of Magic were once potent and vibrant, and crossed over with the world of Men in places all over the Earth.

Slowly but surely, the Earth changed, as Men strengthened their dominion over it. Science drove out Magic, Logic overruled Faith, and the Gods and Monsters would lose their power.

In the first half of the Twentieth Century, the world of Men began to tear itself apart. War and death ravaged whole continents, and there were many who prayed to their Gods for protection. Unfortunately, the Gods of old were too far gone, too distant to wield their power anymore. So the remaining pantheons did the next best thing:

They created an Angel.

A creature of immaculate beauty and tremendous power, gifted with the perception of the divine, and fueled by a duty to champion Justice and Peace. However, none of the individual pantheons had the power to bring her into the world of Men by themselves. To that end, the old Gods found a new land, one whose people worshiped new Gods: Liberty. Equality. Prosperity. The iconography of the new land's "Lady Liberty," the principles of their "Founding Fathers," and the garish adventurism of their "Justice Society" were the missing piece of the puzzle. Sculpted of the old and wrapped in the new, this Angel would be brought to Earth to be the true hero of the age: the Wonder Woman.

However, the creation was halted by the forces of Darkness, the mystics and occultists of the Third Reich attempting to destroy Wonder Woman in the cosmic plane. Though they could not destroy her, her essence was lost in time, and though the war would end, the world would become a darker place in the years to come.

Some two generations later, a girl was born in Washington D.C. Her parents named her Diana Prince, and she was every bit the perfect American daughter. Exceptionally bright, always active in school and in college, and fiercely passionate in her beliefs, Diana would later enlist in the Army to serve the country she loved.

While helping to rebuild the war-torn nation of Afghanistan, Diana was shot in a roadside ambush. Fatally wounded, she was sure that she would die right then and there. Instead, her eyes were truly opened. Her spirit flowed with power from beyond the world of Men. And her destiny was revealed to her.

She was the Wonder Woman, born too late to stop the horrors for which she was created, but not too late to stop the horrors yet to come.

Returning to America, she left the Army, believing she could do more good at home than abroad. Following in the footsteps of the new champions like Superman and the Flash, Wonder Woman became a crime-fighter and social crusader, traveling across the country to help wherever she could. Behind her charity and her vigilantism, she still has one single-minded goal: to save the world from the war that is just beyond the horizon.

Darkness looms over the world of Men, but not for long. For even though the age of Gods and Monsters is over, it has saved its best for last.

Diana has been traveling the country along with her old platoon mate and lover Steve Trevor, primarily acting against the shadowy terrorist organization known as Kobra. She has fought several of Kobra's super-powered henchmen, such as the Dark Angel, Captain Nazi, the Silver Swan, and the Cheetah. After helping out to repel the invasion of Sta'rro, Wonder Woman was one of the key figures in establishing the Justice League, on top of also learning that the mysterious Batman is in fact one of Diana's old Army friends, Bruce Wayne.

Tragically, upon her return from the founding of the League, she found that while she was gone, Steve Trevor was murdered in their bed, his throat slashed open by the vengeful Cheetah. Now, with nowhere to go and no one with whom to share her experiences, Wonder Woman may find herself becoming more unhinged in her battle against Kobra.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Ever since picking her up way back in UDCv1, I've always had a soft spot for Diana; she's one of those characters that should be an absolute great, but never really gets to be. I wanted to make her into a character that can rival Superman and Batman both in terms of powers and in personality, and I'm not done with her yet.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Well, for starters, the source of her powers and the nature of her alter-egos are very different from the traditional universe. And considering her boyfriend just got murdered, she's going to be a lot less friendly than the Diana we usually see. Whereas most people usually see Batman as the "bad one" of the JLA, folks are gonna have to keep a very close eye on Wondy now.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: An interesting take on one of the Big Three, as well as a love for character-intense storytelling and kickass fight scenes. And I can also do the Electric Slide better than anyone else on the Hype, I'll bet.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

As Wonder Woman approached the campsite where Steve Trevor's truck and camper were parked, she could sense something was wrong. Whereas she could normally see him setting up the fire for the night or hear the clanking of pans as he tried to make dinner, it was eerily quiet and still.

As she touched down, she reverted back to the form of Diana Prince, and called out to him.

"Steve? Are you in there?"

She stepped into the camper, looking around for any sign of her partner. There were dark red spatters of blood on the faux-tile floor, sticking to her boots as she walked towards the sleeping area.

Pulling back the curtain, she saw Steve Trevor, the one person in whom she had confided her secret, with whom she had shared so many intimate moments on the road, lying in their bed, with his throat slashed open. The wound was not a clean one, but four angry gashes.

Claw marks. Almost assuredly the claws of the Cheetah.

Diana's blood began to boil, hot tears building up in her widened eyes. She fought with all of her strength just to stay on her feet, to not break down completely. After letting a few heavy sobs escape, she took in a deep breath....

....and clenched her hands into hardened fists.

.Character you wish to portray: Bart Allen/The Flash

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Bart has super-speed, with an ability to run close to the speed of light.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):

Born in 1988, Bart Allen is the oldest son to Barry and Iris Allen. His younger brother Wally was born in 1995.

Barry Allen was a famous detective with the Central City Police, solving the famous Murmur Murders alongside his partner, Jay Garrick.

Finding himself always a bit of a social outcast, Bart always had a love comic book superheroes and science. During his senior year in high school, Bart was working late at the high school science lab when an accident happened. The accident granted Bart mysterious super-powers.

Remembering the comic heroes of his youth, Bart took up a costume and became one of them. The Flash.

Three years later, Bart attends Keystone University, majoring in criminal justice during the day as well as being the fastest man alive.

During the course of the RPGs first season, Flash encountred heroes and foes, from Superman and Wonder Woman to The Trickster and the alien menance known as Star'ro.

Oh, and he's part of the new Justice League. Goddamn right, motha****er!!!

.The burning question - Why this character?: I'm a Flash fan and Bart fan, peanut butter and jelly? PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME! PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: The mainstream version of Bart is a part of a large legacy from his grandfather and cousin, this version of Bart is making his own legacy. Personality wise, Ult. Bart might be a bit closer to Spider-Man. Plus, I've adapted his Rogues and changed them to give them a differnt flair.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Decent RPer, The Flash!

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

Later, at the Hall of Justice!....Err, I mean, on the streets of Star City. I'm tearing up the city, looking for Trickster's bombs. So far, no dice. Running up the side of a skyscraper, a thought occurs to me. So far, Trickster has terrorized parts of the city with a dense amount of people in them. The convention center, the library, airport, and hospital. So far, one landmark has remained out of harm's way. Grell Stadium, a combined football/baseball stadium and home to the Star City Shooters and Star City Sharks.

It's worth a shot. I race through the city and begin scouring the stadium at superspeed. A baseball game is in progress, the Shooters against the Keystone Kings. Kings up 3-1 in the top of the fifth. There's some good news. The people are frozen in place as I run around them looking for the bomb.

I stop dead in my tracks when I see what Trickster planted.

It's thirty bombs all tied together and rigged to blow. The bombs are hidden inside a boiler room at the bottom of the stadium. I can deal with that. What bothers me is that there's only thirty seconds left to disarm them. They're all tied together. I can't move them all!

Think, Bart, think! What would MacGuyver do? Okay, first I'll need a DVD case, a lemon wedge, and some salt....okay, bad example. Think, what would James Bond do?...I don't have a gun or ***** Galore....heh, ***** Galore. FOCUS! Okay, all these bombs are tied together. You disarm the main one, then you prevent the chain reaction from happening.

Okay, which one is the main one? Maybe it's the big one with the timer that now reads 00:20

CRAP!

I rush over to the bomb and look it over. It's not as complex as the one I tried to disarm at the police convention. Only three wires. Pink, white, and black. Crap! Where is the red wire?! Think about Trickster for a second, this is a guy who deals in deception.

00:15

THINK! THINK! THINK!

00:10

You're not thinking! You just let five seconds go by! Which wire is it?

00:05

I've got a pink wire and a white wire.

00:04

To make pink, you take white and....

00:03

RED! It's another one of his trick questions.

00:02

Here goes nothing! I hold my breath and yank the pink and white wires out.

00:01

I throw my hands up over my face and prepare for the worst. After a few seconds without having my guts blow halfway to Coast City, I peek out of my hands at the bombs.

00:01

"Oh, thank you, Jesus! It's Flash 1, Bomb 0!"

I sigh in relief and take off again. After a few seconds, I come to a stop in City Hall where Green Arrow and the cops have Trickster pinned on the ground.

"I found the bombs and managed to disarm them. From what I gather, City Hall was not blown into little bitty bits, either."

.Character you wish to portray: Charles Victor Sage/The Question

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: No powers, but Q is a brilliant detective. He's also a uhh, fairly capable fighter when it comes to hand to hand combat. He gets the job done, anyway.

Oh, and he packs weapons. From pepper spray, to brass knuckles, and guns. He's ready to lock and load.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):
Born in 1979 and originally from Hub City, Michigan, Charles Victor Sage had a normal childhood and bounced around from job to job after leaving high school. He was working as a secuirty guard in Opal City when he saw a job opening for the Gotham City Police Department. 18 year old Vic moved to Gotham and applied for the job.

Vic worked as a patrolman in the Eastern District. During that time he met Amy Brown, an attorney, at the district house. Vic and Amy went out for two years and eventually married.

Shortly after being married Vic was promoted to detective and joined the GCPD's Sexual Victims Unit downtown. After a sucessful tenure in SVU, Vic applied for and was granted a transfer to Homicide.

His time in Homcide was legendary. He posted a 92% clearance rate with a 98% conviction rate. As much as he enjoyed the work, he began to see the ugly side of the job. Corruption ran deep inside the department, and it slowly ate at Vic. He worked longer and longer hours until Amy finally divorced him.

Three years ago Vic was involved in a murder case, a man had murdered his ten year old stepson. Vic knew the man did it, but he didn't have enough evidence for an arrest. Finally fed up with his job and life, he decided to step outside the law to get the job done. Putting on a ski-mask, Vic broke into the man's house and beat him until he promised to confess. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done.

A week later, Q was chasing down a lead on another case when came across a storage unit filled with stolen supplies from STAR labs. Among the things in the storage unit was a filled with something known as Pseudoderm, a skin-like substance that can be molded and shaped.

Using the Pseudoderm to form a mask, Vic decided to follow in the footsteps of other masked crimefighters and become one of them. Using a plain suit and tie with a fedora, Vic became The Question. A mostly sucessful masked vigilante.

Fast forward three years later.

Now Vic is no longer on the force, he quit in disgust after realizing he was a pawn in Lt. Edward Nygma's grab for power. Now Vic works as a private investigator while he moonlights as a freelance reporter for the Gotham Gazette and keeps things going as The Question.

.The burning question - Why this character?:

I've always been interested in Q, and I decided to take RR's version of the character and run with it. I was suprised, but I really enjoy playing him and adding a nice bit of humor to the RPG and all the buzzkills that fill Ult. Gotham.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?:
First off, Q is based in Gotham this time around. He's a former cop and a current reporter/PI who's a much better detective than he is a masked crimefighter and he's not that zen, but the path to zen could come into play soon.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: I can bring a decent RPer with lots of experience and a love of writing.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

"Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face!"

I sing along with the radio as I speed down the interstate. A car full of armed robbers are a few car lengths ahead of me. They robbed an all-night check cash place in the Narrows. I happened to be nearby when the news came over the scanner. Which explains why I have my GTO pushing 120 in the middle of the night.

I pull my .45 out the shoulder holster and aim with my left hand out the window while I keep the car steady with my right hand on the wheel.

"P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face."

BLAM!

The gun kicks in my hands and the robbers' car starts spinning out of control as the bullet rips their back left tire to shreds.

The car slams into the embankment and I zoom on past. I already see the lights of the police car in the rearview mirror. They cops are gonna have them surrounded in about thirty seconds.

I put the pedal to the metal and put my .45 back in the holster. That was easy, and I didn't even get my ass kick.

"Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face!"

.Character you wish to portray: Jim Gordon

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: All the power of an aging cop with a desk-job.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Jim Gordon is essentially one of the most ambitious law enforcement officers in Gotham history. His plan; become a crime lord. By controlling the drug trafficking, the prostitution and, to a lesser extent the gang situation, Gordon restricted the violent crime levels. Of course he had to have a team of corrupt cops...and was involved in some very dodgy drug busts. Eventually this led to a purge -
Gordon killed Romy Chandler and Slam Bradley, a series of murders which led to the man himself being shot by Ethan Bennet in his own office. He is now in a coma.

.The burning question - Why this character?: As far as I can see it, I'm only partway through Gordon's story. My aim is to finish it.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: He's a bad guy. Kind of.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: A good story?

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:
The whiskey bottle was empty. That summed things up conclusively for Jim Gordon. The very last drops of the amber liquid had been drained, and now all that was left was a container that had been useful once, but had since become a husk of it's former meaning. Yes, it was conclusive. Gordon looked at the bottle in his hand, shaking slightly.

"I need to get out," he whispered, a strained thought that escaped violently in a second. He winced, betrayed by himself...

There was a scuffle outside, the sound of something falling heavily on a desk, a loud curse from the offices outside. He growled under his breath and turned around to open the door.

A silhouette stood in the doorway.

"Ethan..." Gordon breathed.

"This is for for Slam,"

.Screen name: Syn

.Character you wish to portray: Jason Todd, Red Hood

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Skilled Martial artist, peak human physical condition, access to various chemicals and medicines, expert psychologist, and anything else I forgot from my first app.

.Origin and back story (as you see it):
Jason was born to Edward and Martha Todd in Gotham City. Edward, one of Gotham’s best fighters, always had the vision of his son taking up the ‘family business’ when he was forced to retire. He trained his son from a very early age to fight, the best ways to read an opponent and to push one’s self beyond their own physical limitations. Jason’s mother, however, always saw her son as a genius; a boy filled with intelligence and empathy. She never liked her husband’s love of fighting and always tried to let Jason’s psychological side grow, teaching him the importance of the mind in addition to the body.
Unfortunately, during a boxing match when Jason was sixteen, Edward was beaten severely in a match against a young and rising competitor. Days later, Edward died from an aneurism he received from the fight. Jason was devastated, the sight of his father’s defeat burned into his mind forever. That day he learned that no man is invincible, and life is not always fair.

Despite his mother’s wishes, Jason continued to train – his way of paying respects to his father, and carrying on the dream. Though Jason lived and breathed to fight, he did value his mother’s opinion and became highly interested in the field of psychology. He studied it in high school and followed it through college. At Gotham State University, Jason’s courses focused mainly on the fields of psychology and criminology, having developed an interest in the field of law enforcement. He studied hard, using what money his mother and he had to pay his way through college.

As fate’s cruel ways would have it, his mother was killed one day in a robbery. The thug was apprehended days later and put on trial. The robber’s attorney convinced him to plea insanity, and he was put in Arkham Asylum as opposed to being given life in prison. Jason’s hatred toward crime grew, and his understanding of life’s unfair ways became much broader. Luckily, his mother’s life insurance policy was a substantial sum of money. He knew that his mother’s dying wish would be to use that money for his education, and expand his mind even further.

Jason’s grades and funds allowed him to transfer to Ivy Tech, a prestigious school in Gotham. There he finished his degrees and majored in Criminal Psychology and Forensic Sciences. At the school, he made friends with a young up and coming socialite – Bruce Wayne. Wayne and Todd became good friends for a time, both sharing the loss of loved ones.

After graduating from the school, Todd received a job working as an intern at Arkham. He became the liaison between Arkham and the Gotham Police Department. At Arkham, he did his best to study the inmates, and gain an understanding of their motivations. But the more Todd learned, the more compelled he became to catch the psychotics. As time passed, Arkham became more and more like a revolving door, releasing the “rehabilited” murderers and thieves into the public, only to have them revert to their immoral and violent tendencies and be brought back for further rehabilitation. Todd became convicted, feeling compelled to go out on the street and catch these criminals, hoping to prevent another incident like with what had happened to his mother. He donned a mask, a hood, its color the same as the innocent blood both his parents had died in. He became the Red Hood, a vigilante always teetering on the line, breaking the law while working with it.

A year or so after Jason began his mission as the Red Hood, he crossed paths with another of Gotham’s vigilantes – The Batman. The two soon became involved in a fight, each believing the other was in their way. During their battle, they found themselves equally matched – a worthy adversary and rival. Their battle led to the unmasking of both their costumes, and the two men suddenly realized who they were fighting. Bruce Wayne, Jason’s old friend from College, was truly the Batman. The two found, again, another kinship in each other. For a brief time, they tried a partnership, but they soon found each other’s methods and personalities to be too conflicting for a permanent duo. The two kept in touch, but developed more a rivalry, speaking and coming together only occasionally to combat Gotham’s underworld.

Now, Jason continues his mission to clean up Gotham’s streets – putting away the psychotics and locking up the criminals. He hopes to one day end his battle, gaining a sense of accomplishment, and knowing that Gotham can take care of itself without the need for vigilantes.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Psychological intrigue and crime noir storylines laced with witty commentary and thrilling cinematic peril.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: He's not a whiny cry baby teenager, he's an adult who works at Arkham Asylum as a Psychiatrist. Currently he dates Dr. Harleen Quinzel, his associate and another Psychiatrist at Arkham. Todd spends his nights moonlighting as a vigilante wearing a Red Hood and carrying various equipment he's either made or bought to help him in his endeavor. Currently, he maintains a close relationship with Gotham Police Detective Thomas Burke. He has also enlisted the aid of fellow Gotham vigilante Batgirl.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Mediocre stories and sub-par team-
ups.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

Red Hood

Detective Dagmar Procjnaw walks up the stairs to her low rent Gotham apartment. The stairs creek and cry with every step, the warped wooden boards barely able to stay nailed together. The faded wallpaper linning the walls curls up at the corners, revealing the dry wall stained by numerous leaks over the years.

At the top of the stairs, Dagmar reaches the door to her home. Putting the key in the lock, she fiddles with the knob for a few seconds as she tries to open the door. With a quick burst of force, she thrusts her shoulder into the door, forcing it open as the bottom scratches the interior floor. Ambivalent, she lets out a sigh and steps inside, forcing the door shut in a similiar manner.

Moving through the darkness, she walks a few steps to the table in the center of the room. Reaching into her jacket, she pulls out her phone and badge, placing them on the table top. As she stares at the items, something suddenly catches her eye. Instantly, her body moves into position as she grabs the gun at her waist, resting her wrist on top of the other and taking aim. "Show yourself or I'll shoot," she speaks, pointing the barrel of her weapon in the direction of the intruder. Suddenly, a dark figure breaches the darkness, stepping forward as he comes into view. Dagmar recognizes the figure's features, identifying him as the vigilante known as the Red Hood.

"That won't be necessary," the Red Hood says smugly.
"You," she groans, lowering her weapon slightly. "Get out," she tells him, holstering the weapon as she turns her back to the vigilante. The detective slowly walks toward the refridgerator in the minimal space that can barely pass as a kitchen. Opening it, she pulls out a bottle of whiskey, gripping it tightly by the stalk.

"How'd you know I was here?" He asks, filling the void.
"The bills on the table," she says, grabbing a glass and filling it with the golden liquid. "You put the electric counterclockwise from how I left it this morning."
"You remembered that?" He asks in surprise. She nods as she grabs the glass, downing the alcohol quickly. "I'll have to be more mindful next time."

"What're you doing here?" She asks bluntly, pouring herself another shot. The Red Hood stares at the glass, then to her.
"Little heavy for a Wednesday night, isn't it?"
"What do you care?" She asks, swallowing another round.
"Did Lark get to you yet?" He questions, this time with concern. Dagmar's eyes open wide for a moment after hearing the name, but quickly return to normal as she puts on an apathetic expression.

"Why won't you leave me alone?" She moans, irritated.
"Because you helped me," he says proudly. "I owe you."
"I can handle myself, alright? I don't care what you or what Burke thinks - I've been looking out for myself for thirty-two years. I can do it a little longer. And I certainly don't need some ... vigilante's help," the says scornfully.

The Red Hood stares at her, examining her movements and subtle twitches and shakes. He sees something others would miss - the disguised mannerisms of fear. "Alright, Detective, I'll go," he says simply, turning his back and heading for the door. Dagmar watches him from the corner of her eye, almost as if refusing to turn her head, and give him the satisfaction of her full attention. As the Red Hood pulls the door open with a quick jerk, he steps into the hallway before a call from the detective stops him.

"You're not going to let this go, are you?" She growls, knowing the reply she'll receive. The Red Hood looks over his shoulder and grins beneath his mask.
"I'll see you around, Detective Procjnaw," he tells her as he closes the door tightly behind him.

Dagmar slams the glass on the counter top as she lets out a long and weary sigh. "Fantastic."

.Character you wish to portray: Barbara "Babs" Gordon, Batgirl.

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Skilled gymnast, versed in martial arts, and genius intellect (photographic memory, detective skills).

.Origin and back story (as you see it):

The conflict between Barbara Gordon’s father and the nefarious Black Mask continued to escalate, reaching new heights, when the crime lord had Barbara kidnapped. Nearly dying at the hands of the criminal thugs, Barbara was saved by Batman at the last minute. From then on, the vigilante inspired Barbara, giving her tremendous respect, and a bit of a crush, on the dark knight. Barbara began training, physically conditioning herself as she prepared to take the next step in her life. Unfortunately, the war with Black Mask had not yet ended. The conflict reached its breaking point when Black Mask himself killed Barbara’s brother, Jimmy Jr. This event pushed Barbara over the edge, changing her ideology near entirely - causing her to become a vigilante.

She took the symbol of the bat as her own, paying homage to the man that had once saved her life, and began the daunting and unforgiving task of protecting Gotham’s denizens from the very evil that had attacked her life, and taken her brother.

Barbara is now undergoing her senior year at Gotham Heights High School. Barbara is under constant surveillance by Gotham Police Detective Renee Montoya for her own personal protection. Facing a surprising disapproval from Batman himself, Barbara continues to stalk the city streets as Batgirl in direct defiance. Occasionally, she works with the Red Hood – combining their forces for certain cases.

.The burning question - Why this character?: . To continue the journey I had her embark on last year, and show "Year Two" of Batgirl.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: She'll be at ends with her dad, instead of close to him. Rebellious in many ways, but still with a good heart, Barbara will grow into a fine hero of Gotham.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Batarangs. From what I hear, we're going to need a lot of them.

(BATGIRL)

"This isn't a discussion, Barbara."
And with that, he was gone. Disappeared into the very night that had bred both of them.

****

From the personal Diary of Barbara Gordon:
August 26

It’s true when people say this city is ungrateful. No one says “thank you” for the hard work you do – even if you put your life on the line to save theirs, the story remains the same. I used to think that there were some people out there who were different – people like me who appreciate and admonish the servitude, but now I realize how naïve I was to believe that.

I finally met him - him- the silent guardian and protector of Gotham; the man who saved my life and inspired me to fight back against crime and evil. I thought, of all people, he’d be the one to understand – that he’d be the one to appreciate someone else taking up the good fight against injustice. But now I understand that I was foolish to think that as well. It appears this city’s ‘dark knight’ is just another citizen trying to control the system, and place it under his command.

As I finish the last sentence, I close my diary and let out a heavy sigh. "Nearly two months ago," I tell myself, my voice nearly quivering. "And it still hits me just as hard now as it did then." I place the diary back on the dresser next to the cell phone the Red Hood gave me. "Heh," I laugh weakly as I think about the crimson hero. "At least someone believes in me."

Casually, I step toward my window - gazing out the dirt stained glass to the glow of the city lights only blocks away. "I've come so far," I whisper, seeming not to realize I'm speaking aloud. "I'm sorry I let you down, Jimmy, sorry I trusted everyone else to be the hero and save the day. But that's why I became Batgirl - not for fun, not for myself. I did it for every one - all the people out there who expect a hero, like I did. For all the people who haven't yet found the courage within themselves to stand up for what's right."

My head raises high and my face tightens as a sense of determination overtakes me. "Gotham's heroes aren't just people - they're symbols - something for people to believe in, to be inspired by. Things are already starting to change. So much has happened over the last year ..." I pause, staring blindly through the darkness of the night as I become lost within my own thoughts once again.

"I can only imagine what's next to come."

Hero

.Powers and physical attributes:
Super strength, speed, hearing, and sight; as well as flight, heat vision, Arctic breath, X-ray and thermal vision, and a high degree of invulnerability.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):
The planet Krypton was known around the universe as being a world where technology and spiritual enlightenment went hand in hand, where its people had learned to live in harmony with the world's ecosystem. To help accomplish this achievement, eons ago Krypton's top scientists gradually introduced specifically engineered genes into the population, which allowed them to take a considerable amount of their body's needed energy from their solar system's red sun, whereas almost every other known carbon-based lifeform would usually get such nourishment from food and drink. The red wavelength of the solar energy wasn't anything truly substantial, but for countless years it was more than enough to free the Kryptonians from any concern of over-harvesting Krypton's resources in order to sustain their quality of life. Their way of life was never shaken; not through the Phantom Zone war, through the political disputes over Birthing Matrices, the abduction of the entire city of Kandor, and even through the controversial ruling that interplanetary travel would finally be forbidden.

And then came the Green Death. What Krypton's greatest minds could only call a "radioactive disturbance" arrived on the planet one day. It's physiology itself was in complete stark contrast to the Kryptonians'; where they were powered largely by solar rays taken from their red sun, this new entity's energy was drawn from Krypton's unique green planetary core. Funneled through the entity, the core's radiation swept through the population, slowly killing them via radiation poisoning while also causing immense geological damage to the planet. It wasn't long before a young scientist named Jor-El, considered a rogue by his peers, recognized that the planet did not have much longer to live, and with his wife, they retrieved their unborn son's birthing matrix and placed little Kal-El on board a small illegally developed rocket. Setting the rocket's coordinates for any planet far enough away from Krypton to never risk the Green Death from ever reaching their son, and with a compatible environment to allow him to mature safely, Jor-El launched the ship mere moments before Krypton exploded.

Arriving on Earth, Kal-El grew up in a small town in Kansas called Smallville. Raised as Clark Kent by Jonathan and Martha Kent, Clark was the star of his high school football team and was accepted to study journalism abroad before almost marrying his high school sweetheart Lana Lang. Before leaving home, however, Clark's parents told him a secret--the secret of how he's not from around Smallville.

Now living in Metropolis, one of the largest and most culturally and technologically developed cities in the world, Clark Kent has earned his way into a top reporting position at the Daily Planet and is about to go to dinner with the famed Lois Lane for their first date. But Clark Kent also leads another life, a life where he dons the Kryptonian uniform that was hastily thrown into his interplanetary life raft years ago, along with many other artifacts from Krypton. This is a life where he has defended the innocent from a number of superpowered villains, such as Blackrock and Neutron, and will tirelessly continue to do so.

But now Superman has been lured into a trap designed by Lex Luthor, leaving him dying on the moon as Luthor brandishes a mysterious glowing green rock and forces Superman and Lois Lane to watch as the villain assumes control of the globe.

.The burning question - Why this character?:
I played him through most of his pre-reboot career and all through the first season of this continuity, and would love to continue working with the character. I've always been a huge fan of Superman and his supporting cast, and although I didn't get the chance to work with his friends and family as much as I would've liked to, I do want to continue to flesh them out in the new Ultimate DC Universe.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?:
The entire history of Krypton has changed, giving some explanation as to why Kryptonians are able to essentially be solar powered. I've also given a new reason for Krypton's destruction (which will come back to haunt Clark, as well as being the Ultimate version of an old villain), and I've kept the Ultimized version of Krypton that Karem Knight and I came up with from the pre-reboot days, with the societal unease over the more privileged families having their unborn offspring being engineered to have stronger immune systems while coming to term in a birthing matrix (an artificial womb); while the lower class citizens get to give birth the old fashioned way, with all the risks that come with it.

Superman himself is younger and less experienced. He's also not at planet or continent moving levels of strength, but he did grit his teeth and push Sta'rro all the way across our solar system towards the end of last season, and I'm comfortable with that level of strength, so I'll keep it around there. Superman's costume is also a peacekeeping uniform from Krypton. The Fortress of Solitude is just a cave that can be outfitted to have infinite space within it (a combination of two of Superman's previous FOS's in the comics), but Clark really hasn't developed it any further than setting up a small workshop and a Kryptonian computer system.

You also might have noticed in my "Origin and Backstory" section that Clark almost married Lana before leaving Smallville. I didn't get around to exploring that in the first season, but I'm hoping to do so this time.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?:
I can bring a dedication to the character, as I've demonstrated by sticking with him before the reboot with very minimal lags in overall posting. I can also bring with me a creativity for putting a new spin on old concepts while staying true to the spirit of the character and what he represents.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:
After escorting the Flash to his room, Maxima walks by my side as we stroll down the extravagant hallway. Honestly, as surprising as it sounds, I might actually be getting used to how forward she is. Yes, I'm still kind of uncomfortable about it, but it's not as if there's anything wrong with how she's behaving. She's a utterly stunning queen who seems to take good care of her people and planet, has a fiery spirit and power about her, and simply appears to be attracted to one of the powerful new heroes who have come to save her planet. Not at all unreasonable, I concede. It's just a combination of gratitude and lustful infatuation, right?

I can't help but think back to Lois and our relationship back home. We've gone on two dates, but she also made it very clear to me that we're not actually a couple at this point, and that we have no obligation to each other. But still, I'd feel guilty if Maxima and I...

Finally we come to a stop in front of what I assume is the door to my room. "Here you are, Superman. I promise you that your bed is of the highest quality and luxury on Almerac," she looks up into my eyes and I can tell that there's something there, some energy between us. "However, I can think of one more thing that would improve how you spend your night..."

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Selina Kyle / Catwoman

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero, with a touch of Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: No powers, but Selina has a background in gymnastics. She also has all the physical and mental training required of a Gotham City police officer. She keeps her body at peak physical condition because it's often the difference between life and death.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Selina Kyle grew up in a broken home. Her father and mother split not long after she was born, a fact that causes Selina to shoulder some of the blame. When her alcoholic father, Brian Kyle, dies of alcohol poisoning, Selina comes into the permanent care of her mother, Maria. Times were tough for the Kyles, and Maria resorted to prostitution - not only to feed her child, but also to feed a growing addiction to heroin. Having no place else to go, Maria brought her clients back to her dingy apartment. Selina was too young to understand the truth, but she knew that she didn't like the men that her mother was bringing home. This, added to her resentment of her father for "leaving," laid the foundations of a lifetime of distrusting men.

After her mother overdosed on heroin, Selina was put into the foster care system. From then on, she lived a relatively normal life, but she was always haunted by her past. Selina frequently changed families because she came at odds with the men trying to be a father figure for her. Selina finally found peace with an older woman, Irena Dubrovna, who had an affinity for cats. She went to school, participated in gymnastics, and matured.

As a result of her rough childhood, Selina felt a calling. She joined the Gotham City Police Department, in hopes of ridding the city of the evils that plagued her early life. Shortly after joining the force, Selina was made an undercover officer in the Vice Unit. Selina worked for almost a year with Vice, posing as a prostitute to help bring the industry and its clients down. Her exceptional work in this field merited her a far more important - yet far more dangerous - job.

Selina was assigned to infiltrate the Maroni crime family. Her new identity was Holly Robinson, a woman from a well-to-do Brooklyn family. The guise worked like a charm, and after a brief courtship, Selina became Salvatore Maroni's trophy girlfriend. She was discovered by Maroni and nearly killed, but she escaped with the help of Inspector Edward Nygma, then just an undercover detective.

Selina assumed a new identity: Andrea Beaumont. She was assigned to work as Bruce Wayne's bodyguard after an attempt on the billionaire's life. Her suspicion of Wayne led her to break into Wayne's penthouse and snoop around. She learned the truth about Bruce Wayne, and it motivated her to take up a mission of her own.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Not counting a winter hiatus I took, I played Selina for almost the entirety of Season I. I've been working to this point for more than a year, and it's finally time to reach my endgame. The Bat-Family will never be the same.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Her origin is drastically different, making her a former cop and solidifying her past. Moreover, the way she became Catwoman is nothing like we've ever seen before.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: A character who's been my brain-child for more than a year and a reliable, enthusiastic poster.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

The Crime Doctor holds onto my arm tightly, pulling us through the muck and the sewage. I'm not even thinking about how nasty this is or how much it stinks. I'm looking back at the darkness, listening to the echoes of Nygma and Gordon talking. "Your boyfriend crazy," the Crime Doctor remarks.

"What? Oh, he's not my..." I trail off. It doesn't matter. For all I know, Gordon's going to kill him. This is why you don't get emotionally involved in our line of work. But what can I say? Nygma met me at a very vulnerable time in my life. A weak time in my life. I've learned from my mistakes. "Where are we going, anyway?"

"We? Not we." The Crime Doctor quickly glances at me before looking back ahead. "I go to safehouse, stay with cousin. You? You take care of self." She stops suddenly, and I nearly stumble into the river of feces. She examines my shoulder. "Your wound has healed nicely. You will be fine. Come."

After turning another corner, I see light from above. Looking up, I see a dislodged manhole cover. The Crime Doctor lets go of my arm and begins climbing up the ladder. I follow closely behind. We pop out in the middle of a dark Gotham street, illuminated only by dim streetlamps.

"This is where I leave," the Crime Doctor explains. "You might want to ice shoulder once you get to safety." And without another word, she dashes off into the Gotham night - moving surprisingly fast for someone of her size and stature.

There's a crash, and I spin around suddenly. Two glowing eyes stare at me from the darkness.

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Kara Zor-El / Linda Danvers / Supergirl

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: As a Kryptonian, on Earth Linda possesses all the same abilities as her world-famous cousin. Namely: invulnerability, superstrength, superspeed, heat vision, x-ray vision, flight, superhearing, and arctic breath. Linda is also highly trained in martial arts, as she possesses a natural aptitude for learning quickly.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Zor-El and Allura, survivors of the lost Kryptonian city, Argo. Their home planet had been destroyed and Argo was coming to an end, the peril around them engulfed the whole city, soon destruction was upon them. Zor-El had remembered the device his now deceased brother used to send off their only child to a new life with safety. Quickly building something similar to the device, him and Alura had to say their farewell to their only child, Kara Zor-El. The baby was sent off to Earth, in hope of finding the baby's cousin, Kal-El. Because Zor-El and Allura had programmed the device to a steady landing, Kara's course was changed slightly and she ended up in the streets of Chicago, with no destruction caused.

Fred Danvers and Sylvia Lee-Danvers had recently encountered trouble conceiving. So when a fair haired baby girl was left on their doorstep one morning, they believed their prayers had been answered. There had been one note left attached to the glowing cloth that was wrapped around the beautiful baby girl. It was in a cryptic type language, that no one could translate. The two took the girl in and adopted her. Naming her Linda Lee Danvers, after Fred's grandmother, Linda started to grow up under the average lifestyle of a girl in Chicago.

Linda was far from average, however. Her Kryptonian heritage gave her great abilities on Earth, as well as a natural aptitude for learning. She eventually cracked the code of the message from her parents, which told her to find her cousin Kal-El. Linda soon realized that this Kal-El was none other than the famous hero Superman, and she took up her Supergirl persona to attract his attention. Now, she lives in Metropolis, attends Metropolis University, and is one step closer to being reunited with her only surviving family.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Playing Supergirl gives me a chance to participate in the Ultimate Superman mythos, as well as giving me a chance to develop Supergirl as a hero in her own right. I intend to make her into much more than just Superman's cousin.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: The origin laid out by J'adore completely changes Supergirl. For one, she was too little to remember anything about Krypton, so she's looking for answers just like Kal-El. Also, she's been operating independent of her cousin, making a name for herself first and foremost.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Reliability, enthusiasm, whatever you want to say about me. This is my favorite game on the Hype right now, and I think it shows in my posting.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

"I may not be able to hurt you, Supergirl," Dr. Polaris begins with a smirk. He raises both hands over his head. As he closes his fists, the ground begins to shake. "But I can bury you under hundreds of tons of steel!"

He's going to bring the city block to the ground.

That's it!

I glance back at Officer Sawyer. Now unarmed, she looks very nervous.

"You certainly have a way with metal, Polaris," I admit with a smirk of my own. Moving at speeds faster than Polaris can even process, I grab him around the waist and lift him into the air. Moments later, I slam him down in the middle of a cornfield. "Let's see how tough you are out here."

For the first time, Polaris's cocky demeanor fades. Without any significant metal to manipulate all the way out here, he's basically powerless.

"This is for my family."

I pull the punch, knocking him out cold and leaving quite the mark. He won't be forgetting me any time soon. I put my hands on my hips victoriously. Then, I remember what I was doing before Polaris intervened.

Dad...

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: District Attorney Harvey Dent

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: None. He possesses a quick and keen mind which helps keep him one step ahead of Gotham's criminals.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Martha and Benjamin Dent had been prom king and queen. The pair were a happy couple, in love. They had met at the lighting of the Gotham Plaza Christmas tree in '59 and, shortly thereafter, went to college together. They were an inseparable and, eventually, had a child. Named for Martha's father, Harvey Forester Dent was born on March 12, 1979.

Having a child put a great amount of stress on the marriage of Martha and Benjamin. Fresh out of college, the pair were dealing with several things very quickly: marriage, a child, trying to put food on the table. Despite all of the hardships, though, the pair were entirely dedicated to each other. They did their best to give Harvey the best childhood they could. Slowly, but surely, Benjamin's career began to pick up steam. By the time that Harvey was 4, his father was a prominent partner Schutler, Dorian, and Shade, a Gotham law firm. Prosperity ensued for the family of three. Every summer brought a trip to DisneyWorld, every weekend brought a new toy, and each lazy summer afternoon brought about a visit to the ballpark.

In 1988, when Harvey was 7, his mother was diagnosed with goblet-cell carcinoma, a rare, incurable form of cancer. She endured a five-year long battle with the disease, traveling across the United States to find treatment. Benjamin even moved the family from the suburbs into the heart of Gotham City, in an effort to get Martha closer to Gotham General. Nothing proved helpful. Martha's body withered, her youth escaped her, and, after 5 years of fighting, she died, leaving Harvey and Benjamin alone with each other.

Benjamin was devastated. In the later stages of her illness, he had told his wife that he was "like a swan," because swans mate for life. So convinced was Benjamin that he could never love again, that he took every step to preserve Martha's place in the house. He didn't throw out her clothes, he bought piles and piles of art from artists she had loved in live, and put her picture on every wall of the house. In every sense of the word, Benjamin was living in the past.

Harvey began writing as a hobby. As the years passed, he grew more and more recognized for his abilities. This natural gift in the area of language arts lent itself to a unique ability to be a great public speaker. Harvey never shied away from a project or from a presentation. In the 7th grade, he was asked to join his school's mock trial team. Harvey's love of the spotlight flourished as he'd dress up in suits and ties and parade around court rooms, thrusting his finger in the faces of people portraying the defendants in the fictional cases. He would go on to win many awards through high school.

While Harvey flourished, his father stalled. Benjamin was forced to watch his son grow steadily more successful. Harvey participated in every sport he could, earned medals, and garnered accolades on the national level. Every university was begging for him to join their ranks. As a graduation gift, Benjamin gave Harvey his grandfather's two-headed coin. The coin belonged to Harvey's maternal grandfather and soon became a good luck charm for him. Since the day he was given it, Harvey kept his coin in his back pocket. The luck brought to him by the coin paid off, as he was being offered scholarships from top-tier universities and colleges across the United States and even abroad. Harvey accepted the offer from Harvard University. He submitted his acceptance letter on Halloween of 1994.

That night, Benjamin Dent put a gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

It was the longest Halloween of Harvey Dent's life.

When the police investigated the scene of his father's suicide, they found an envelope addressed to Harvey. He never opened, never dared to read the contents of the paper within. Instead, he buried himself in his work and studies. He lead Harvard's moot court program to a national championship, being noted as an All-American mock trial participant. He graduated Harvard Summa *** Laude, proceeding to spend three years at their law school. It was there that he met Gilda Grace Gold. After many nights staying up late together, working on moot court cases, legal case studies, term papers, a romantic interest inevitably formed between the two of them.

After law school, Harvey and Gilda worked together to form their own small legal practice. It went bankrupt after a year and a half, but not before winning over 26 cases in court. The two partners were, however, both drafted into the ranks of the prosecutor's office. As a part of the state legal system, the pair were forced to work on both sides of legal cases, sometimes even against each other. Dent proved to be an exceptional litigator. His smile, charm, and intense legal knowledge carried him far in the eyes of the public. There, he only remained for two years before being promoted to Assistant District Attorney. As assistant DA, he took care of plea bargains, evidential hearings, and making sure the regional prosecutors fulfilled their duties.

It didn't take long for Harvey to make it to District Attorney, but it took him even less time to create enemies. A pending Internal Affairs investigation led to Harvey's home being burned down. His fiancee, Gilda, was caught in the fire and badly burned.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Harvey's story is almost Shakespearian, in a way. It follows the classic formula of a Shakesperian drama: a flawed hero, victim to fate, falls from grace. And yet, even after his fall, Harvey's philosophy doesn't seem entirely unreasonable. In fact, Two-Face almost causes internal conflict within us all about how far we are willing - and should be allowed - to go in the name of justice.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Well, MB and I have planned a lot of Harvey's story arc for this Season, but in the name of secrecy I'll refrain from divulging the details. Suffice it to say, this will not be a Harvey Dent you've ever seen before.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Again, if you could only see the novel-length PM I sent to MB about Harvey, you'd see how dedicated I am. I love the idea we've come up with, and I'm so excited to carry it out.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

Harvey Dent hated hospitals. Being surrounded by all that death and illness made him uncomfortable. It reminded him of his mother. It reminded him of her losing battle against cancer. He had seen the inside of far too many hospital rooms for one lifetime. Sitting at the side of Gilda's bed, Harvey couldn't help but think about how much he hated hospitals.

Harvey reached out and ran his fingertips along the bandages covering Gilda's face. My beautiful Gilda. She had suffered severe burns in the fire. The entire right side of her face and body had been scarred beyond recognition. The doctors had promised they would do what they can to bring her back, to restore her beauty.

"Excuse me, Mr. Dent?"

Harvey turned his head in the direction of the soft voice. He saw an aging nurse, wrinkles branching out from the corner of her eyes and lips.

"Visiting hours ended twenty minutes ago," she said politely. "Why don't you go home, get some rest?"

Harvey nodded, barely hearing her. He ran his hand down Gilda's side, locking his fingers between hers. He fought the urge to let himself cry in front of this stranger. "Goodnight, Gilda."

The nurse gave him a little smile. Harvey returned the gesture.

"Goodnight."

Yes, I was the author of the Harvey Dent montage section.
