Comics The "New Ways to Die" Thread...

Better yet, couldn't they have just done this without OMD/BND in the first place? From the looks of this, it could have worked just as well with the marriage intact.

I agree...Also, great Avatar!

Well, I finally got around to reading the book... not bad, nice set-up...

The art was great and I think this story is going to rock hard.

:yay:

i loved it!

The artwork was top-notch, and i loved seeing Urich and the Frontline staff. (which is funded by J Jonah Jameson iirc) Glad to see Joe Robertson over there as well (hope Betty Brant follows them over)...

The Venom back up was very cool. Looks like we'll be seeing Peter and Brock vs the T-Bolts...the only thing that could make it better would be if some of Spidery's New Avenger team mates show up. :word:

Looking forward to the next issue!

The last page splash panel was perfect.... "Parker..."

Right? See, this is what im talking about: I dont need to see "Peter Parker's World Turned Upside Down" every other month...just give me some stories with lots of "cool" factor, adventure, humor, and a little romance, and im happy. :yay:

See, these are the type of "events" that i look forward to. Not "life-changing, world shattering" events. This is what marvel should do from now on, instead of these huge company wide events every year, the individual titles should have their own summer blockbuster events, that are fun and epic yet not " life-altering".

I have a Mind Wipe question, so... sorry if anyone else asked this. I stopped reading ASM after the Freak storyline but I just picked up #568 and 569. I know Slott is good and who doesn't love JRjr.

My questios though: Does spidey know about his deal with Mephisto? Cause in #569 Peter mentions that Osborn doesn't know who he is and that no one does. But how does he know about that? Did Mephisto appear at some point and remind him about the unmasking and deal with him and MJ. Cause if so... wow, and what issue?

Thanks!

Its seems like Mephisto had nothing to do with the "mind wipes" and something else caused everyone forgetting Spidey's identity.

Wha??? Really? Could you tell me more about this and what issue this info came from? And you're not being sarcastic about Joe Q or anything like that are you? And have they revealed for sure if MJ is Jackpot or is that still kinda in the dark?

I guess what I want to know is how much Peter knows about his past.

Um the info came from this issue. The way Peter talks about every forgetting is sorta calm, so its safe to assume Mephisto had nothing to do with it.

And Jackpot's identity is going to be revealed in the annual.

Oh... no offense but I wouldn't assume Mephisto wasn't involved on just that. But I thought Pete wasn't suppose to have memory of his memory being erased... though it may be pointless to wonder or argue about this.

That's exactly why some people are speculating now that the mind-wipe was a separate event from Mephisto's un-marriage deal.

And really, if you think about it, Mephisto never said anything about anyone forgetting who he was as being part of the plan. He wanted to take the marriage so that he could bask in the unconscious pain that this would cause Peter and MJ. Taking away everyone's knowledge that Pete is Spidey would do nothing but make things BETTER for Pete, which would be totally against what Mephisto would be aiming for.

I'm really confused now... I don't see how Mephisto's marriage deal isn't involved with the mind wipe. Pretty sure Mephisto said something about how he could make it so "he never unmasked" or something I would need to check. I mean why un-do the marriage if it didn't solve pete's problems, like his identity and Aunt May dieing. So... pretty sure the mind wipe was the devil's doing, but I thought Peter didn't know. In the new issue Peter also makes that joke about "waving a magic wand and everyone forgetting who he is" when he's talking about Osborn. So...

And Mephisto hasn't made any appearances or "possible" appearances post OMD has he?

I just went back and checked, and you're right. MJ brought up the fact that May was shot as a result of people knowing who Spidey is, and he ends up saying "so if that's all it takes, consider his identity forgotten."

So you're right...

^I thought so.
So then why the heck does Pete know about the memory wipe? Oh, well I guess I could try to enjoy the the story aside from the crazy confusing errors and when it's done I can drop the book again.

And again, Mephisto hasn't shown up since OMD right? Cause if Pete eventually learns or has learned about his crazy deal it might be interesting if he tries to rectify it... maybe.

Maybe its a combination of the two. Like Mephisto had a hand in it, but he didn't change; just had a hand at allowing to open up a situation for it to happen. Because of the deal something happened storywise for everyone to forget (i.e. Spidey got help from Loki, he pulls a Tony Stark and gets access to a satilite and makes everyone forget, etc...).

Like with Aunt May, she wasn't automatically healed by Mephisto. Speculation from that Slott interview makes it seem Mr. Negative had a hand in healing her.

Aloha,
I like your logic. Changing one thing, could make other things change in a Domino effect. The fact that Aunt May was possibly healed NOT by Mephisto but Li, shows that Mephisto didn't have to have a hand in everything. There's a reason the guy who wrote Back to the Future is a part of the new team.
Spidey rules

Hmm so maybe there's still hope for the whole Loki wish thing. Maybe Mephisto made it possible to ressurect Loki and then later meet with Peter and have him cash in the favor. That might work since, Loki's recently been revived in the Thor comics, and maybe thats who Peter meant when he said "Everything we did is still in effect.".

That's probably the most likely scenario, and it allows for Marvel to say that One More Day still happened without actually acknowledging it. Of course, it still doesn't explain the continuity holes it created such as why Harry Osborn never died and everyone remembers him being alive all this time. And if Marvel's plan was to retcon to the retcon but keep all the same effects the retcon in place, then it would just add to the notion that Marvel could have easily had Peter and MJ get divorced and achieved the same results.

Its obvious that eventually Peter will discover the deal he made with Mephisto. You don't make a deal with the devil and just walk away scott free. Mephisto will be back, it prolly wont be for a long while but he will be back and everything will be re-retconed.

I'm pretty pleased that we're going to get a valid explanation for the mind-wipe as opposed to a mystical wave of Mephisto's hand... as evidenced in ASM #569.
