All in all, if this generation has shown us is that the Playstation name is not as big as we all thought.

If Sony wins this generation will be because of the name it has, and because of the blu-ray

Just noticed this, if you feel Playstation's name isn't that big this generation, then why would it win because of it's name? Just curious because I noticed this thread was bumped and reread the last 2 pages and it made me scratch my head a bit.

BTW picked up Warhawk today, why didn't anyone tell me it was so addictive :), best fps/3rd person shooter multiplayer I've played in awhile outside of Half-life and all it's mods (also haven't picked up COD4 yet). The free Bluetooth headset was nice, but I haven't messed with it yet and I'm not big on talking in multiplayer unless I really know my **** in a game because otherwise you can look like an ass :).

lol....you mustnt have been listening, bc its been stated by PS3 owners to be one of the more fun games out there. I was completely hooked and immersed in it last fall. A lot of big titles came out in Nov and took me away so Im not using it as often, but I still play every week. Will definetly do more once the new patch is released

Congrats to PS3 for actually getting a game into the Top 10 for a month.

Congrats to PS3 for actually getting a game into the Top 10 for a month.
You act like this is the first time this has happened. But yes congratulations indeed and with the hardware doing well in sales now, Im sure this will be more of a common thing

And sadly the 360 version of the same game sold better. Despite the awesomely faster load times.
Thats true. Its expected being that there are more 360s out there than the PS3. Im more surprised that the sales gap between the two systems is so small considering its been pretty much wider for most games in the past.

No one thinks these extra sales might just be down to people who holding out for a winner in the format war?

once a blu-ray standalone that isn't complete garbage is released, the numbers will die back down again...

of course. Thats just one of a number of factors

bulls**t

the ps3 is so intrinsically tied up with blu-ray that it's impossible to tell how many consoles are going to gamers, and how many are going to AV enthusiasts

the only thing that can give an approximate indication of sales to gamers is software sales

ps3 software sales are pathetic as usual

therefore it's a logical conclusion to state that blu-ray is the ONLY reason it outsold the 360

Well the other reason being that the 360s have been in very short supply since X-Mas. But yes, I agree.

I think one of the biggest factors is that it has gotten its price down to a more reasonable level. $399 is alot more appealing than the old $599. You'll notice the first boost started when the 40gb was released back in Nov. Sales stayed high into December but it was hard to really look at those two months being that they were holiday months and sales were going to go up regardless. Jan and Feb are the first two months after the holidays which is why these numbers are moer significant. The format war definetly helped things and like you said, there is no concrete way to determine based on the numbers what the use the system will be getting. I doubt the numbers would be where they were though without the price changes.

Someone walks into a store in January or February wanting a new game console.

The stores are all out of Wiis and XBOX 360s...they're left with PS3 or nothing.

Well...unless they want an old console like the PS2, which outsold the PS3 again. How many people buying up all of these PS2s are going to go out anytime soon afterwards and get a PS3?

January and february, as in the two months right after the warner defection. thanks for proving my point for me :)

haha, which is why I mentioned the format war in my post. IA that it played a factor, but its not the only one there

then why do software sales still suck so hard?

DEVIL MAY CRY, as in one of the most iconic ps2 franchises, sells more on the 360 than ps3...

I have yet to go into a store this year and not see a 360 and I live right outside of NYC. Theres usually a whole stack of them on the floor at Best Buy but moving on...

They save their money if they dont want a PS3. I think its pretty stupid to end up paying $400 for something you dont want simply bc you cant look around or find the thing you really do want. I really dont think thats what most people are doing or at least would hope not.

Bc there are more 360s in homes than the PS3. Thats an obvious fact. And for the record, DMC4 sold more worldwide on the PS3 than the 360. The North American gap wasnt all that impressive. Based on past experiences, I thought they would be seperated by at least 100,000 here

It's a well-known fact that the 360s have been in very short supply since X-Mas. My store, for example has only gotten maybe a dozen 360s in since that time, when we normally would get maybe 6-8 on each truck (twice a week). I know my store isn't the only place either, as I've heard many other people mention the shortages in their stores online, too.

yeah I know. Just earlier this week, MS put out a release that they expect the PS3 to outsell them in Feb and March as well
