then why is the public perceiving it to be one?

and what do you even mean it's not a real short list?

Quite simply, because the public is ravenous for Spidey info and a report through a supposedly reputable site would keep them at bay.

The title of the article makes it seem like they are the final five actors in contention.

They aren't. Jeff Sneider even says so in his article. He says that they are among many who have simply read for Marvel. Also, that many will screen test soon, and there is no guarantee they will be among those to screen test.

And if you know anything about this process, you'd know there is no shortlist until screen test offers have taken gone out, and initial screen tests had.
Ok, but then this also technically means o'brien hasn't even auditioned yet if he even plans to, yeah?

sneider lost a lot of reputability on my end for the whole 95% black spiderman thing.

If O'Brien has read for Marvel (based on the Paleyfest incident, I'd say he has), then he's in the position everyone else is right now, and is awaiting a screen test offer.

what's the difference between "reading" for the studio and waiting for a screen test offer?

Oh I remember, but I'm not dismissing him completely.

He reminds me of John Campea in a lot of ways.
well there's that, and now this apparent clickbait shortlist of actors.

john campea seems like a level headed guy but I don't think he's always accurate in what he tries to spin either.

then, it still flies. but honestly...do you even trust the reddit leaker anymore if you did in the first place?

It doesn't *still* fly. It may have flown at a certain time in the past, but the current truth is different from the past truth, and the reason the past truth is reported as current news is to sway people's attention away from the current truth they want to keep hidden until they're ready to reveal it.

So this all comes from Sneider? Well, then this list is far from official.

I really don't get what you're trying to say here.

Reading is the basic audition phase. They have a bunch of actors (dozens, hundreds) come in and read some lines; basic acting exercise that will give them a sense of their range and fit for the role.

The screen test is basically the callback. Getting a screen test means you're a serious contender. At that point, you'll come in and actually act out the role for them, on camera.

After the screen tests are completed, that's when the list is shrunken to the final group (THE shortlist). And either that group is invited back for a final test (which is usually what happens) where the chosen actor is picked from, or (should one stand out completely over the rest), the actor is outright chosen from the bunch.

He's saying it's all an illusion... Mysterio CONFIRMED! :o
na forreal though I want to get what he's saying. at first I asked him if he thinks o'brien never even auditioned and hence kinda told the truth at paleyfest and then he responds to me with what the redditleaker said in response to the shortlist coming at all. but after that it sounds like he's arguing against it. i need him to clarify.

Ok, so was it you who said that o'brien is in the same boat as everyone else?

Because this means that not only is the reddit leaker full of crap, but that o'brien might not be a part of any of this at all. despite him being the fan favorite. yes, as much as there are haters of him, the people who cast him as his fan favorites outnumber the haters.

Out of this shortlist, Timothee Chalamet should be the favorite. He has it all to play both Spidey and Parker, I don't get why people want Butterfield so much when it's really the complete opposite.

Also, with the amount of shirtless/"cute" Tumblr gifs of Dylan, I really hope you guys are females. It's getting ridiculous.

Does someone have a link to this new reddit person?

Hypothetical scenario:

Redditleaker reveals that Dylan O'Brien has been cast as Spider-Man from a source.

For the sake of what I'm trying to get at, treat this as actually being true, and then put yourself in the shoes of Marvel. They don't want to announce it themselves just yet. So, knowing that Redditleaker is not a reputable source, Marvel has other people deliberately leak information to seemingly more reputable sites that is either false (i.e. not true at all) or dated (i.e. used to be true but not anymore). And because this information is being revealed by more seemingly more reputable sites, people perceive it as truth, and they perceive it as happening at the time it's reported.

And these seemingly reputable sites are told this from their sources. They're not witnessing these things happen firsthand. They're not scoping out the Marvel and Sony offices like special forces snipers.

Ok, and are you telling me this as a devil's advocate or do you think o'brien is spiderman?
