I must ask, off-handedly: what is that bit a reference to? I've seen a scooper calling themselves MyTimeToShineBoom, so is it an anime reference or something?

I see this tomorrow.

This is the best of the three Eggers movies and I liked it about as much as the new Batman. Eggers brings his weird style and good execution to what to is otherwise a story we’ve seen numerous times before like in Scorsese’s
Gangs of New York or in Shakespeare and the Lion King and what not
, though perhaps not as violent and literally dark as here.

Gonna see this on Saturday with a double feature of Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Hoping to catch both this weekend as well. Saw 'Everything Everywhere' on Tuesday. It's shaping up to be a legendary week in cinema for me.

Welp, that's 3 out of 3 classics in a row. I hope Eggers has 50 more in him.

What a great ****ing year this is shaping up to be.

Audiences are going to haaaaaaaaate this movie.

I think it'll be better received in the general audience than Eggers other movies - it's more mass market straightforward tested story and less baffling (which may disappoint some of his hardcore fans), but it's still a dark and violent adult-skewing movie which limits that appeal to a certain extent.

Just saw some low box office projections for this film. :csad: Any reason why? I was hoping it would do well as I want more films like this to get made.

A) It's a super dark, super violent film. And while I've heard it's Eggers' most accessible film yet, I suspect it'll still maintain just enough weirdness to put casual audiences off.
B) People complain about a lack of originality in Hollywood and then don't show up for original films. Go figure that one.

I think it's sharing the box office with the Nic Cage movie. Both hit similar demographics.

Also the mass audience are just waiting for Doctor Strange 2 to come out which is right around the corner.

It is a bit strange that there isn’t more buzz around this movie. I mean, I would think Norse mythology is pretty profitable right now, with shows like Vikings and The Last Kingdom and video games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Skyrim being so popular. And the reviews of this have been great. But I guess people only like to consume Viking-inspired material at home on TV, lol? I’m not sure why more people aren’t excited for this. The first trailer was clearly designed to have mainstream appeal and eschewed most of the weirdness of Eggers’ other works.
