The Northman

Do you think you could give a description on what you saw? Almost all the websites were pretty vague.

Have you heard of Vinland Saga, the anime? It kind of looks like a live-action version of Vinland saga. Appears to be a revenge tale. Young boy seeks revenge in adulthood on his father/family being killed by enemy viking raid. Looks like an authentic, high production values viking movie with a stellar cast. Anya-Taylor Joy appears to be the love interest. I'm assuming Alexander Skarsgaard is the main guy. Vikings raiding and pillaging.

Sounds awesome! Will check out the anime!

IMHO this looks like Robert Eggers doing a Gladiator level movie. I think this is a movie that could catapult him to mainstream stardom.

Cool sequence in the trailer shows Skarsgaard's character catching a battle spear outside an enemy base and seamlessly throwing it back at its thrower.

I thought they tested this a few months back and the general consensus was that it sort of dragged and needed to be edited a bit more. And I think Eggers has been doing some reshoots.

Just this description is getting me hyped!!!

Curious, since this is Eggers doing what sounds like a film with more mainstream appeal… do you think that his style (from what you’ve seen in this movie and not so much from his other films) would ever work in a CBM? Just curious since Marvel and WB seem to be taking more chances of late with auteur-type filmmakers. I’d be interested to see Eggers take on a dark superhero property like Midnight Suns or Hellblazer… maybe.

I can see them wanting Eggers, but I can't really see Eggers playing ball with them unless they gave him total creative control. Which Marvel isn't prone to do.

The thing is, I don't really see comic book movies as comic book movies. I just see them as movies period. Do I think based off the footage I've seen of Northman that Eggers could graduate up to a bigger budget movie and do a major tentpole film? Yes, most definitely. But it also depends on if he's interested in doing one and the type of story and type of character. I think it's even better that he started with small films, and now he's doing a more mid-budget period viking drama. So to go from here to say a Marvel or DC movie would be a logical step, depending on what it is.

I think it hurt Josh Trank that he went from a low budget found footage superhero film straight to Fantastic Four. Some directors can handle that jump, some cannot.

omg, I seriously need to see a trailer already haha. This just sounds like everything I was hoping for. As I've said a million times, I'd literally watch anything Eggers makes.
