The Northman

Didn't expect this to be so action-packed. But maybe it's just the trailer.

Rewatched the trailer a few more times. It almost feels like Conan the Barbarian '82.

Costume work looks good. Authentic for the viking era as far as I can see. Viking series looked really off-putting in that regard.

Knowing Eggers, there most likely will be.

Yeah there's shots in here that felt 100% Eggers.

Modern stylized portrayal of a mythical dame (witch, mermaid, shield maiden/valkyrie) became a staple of his work for sure.

According to good old Wiki…

According to scholars and historians, braces date back to ancient times. Around 400-300 BC, Hippocrates and Aristotle contemplated ways to straighten teeth and fix various dental conditions. Archaeologists have discovered numerous mummified ancient individuals with what appear to be metal bands wrapped around their teeth.

Dentistry didn't advance in my area since 10th century.
Just noticed she has braces. Huh.
Are those braces or something is painted on her teeth? Encode on YT is ****, it's hard to tell.

Look great.
Now imagine if Eggers had directed Tarzan, he really made Alex look like not the mildest dude ever.

I can just imagine bored high school students studying Hamlet watching this trailer and being like, “Why can’t we learn THIS version instead?”

When is the last time we had a pure Viking movie like this?

The last viking movie I enjoyed was 13th Warrior. It's quite surprising how barren movie landscape when it comes to vikings. Maybe it's precisely because 13th Warrior bombed so hard.

There could be others, but I'm blanking on like major Hollywood films about vikings.

Also, if you want a great anime about vikings, check out Vinland Saga.

Looking pretty freaking good.

Isnt there a Hamlet movie in the making with Denzel Washington or so?
