IIRC, Madonna chose Dafoe to be in the movie in the first place because of how famously... gifted he is in certain regions.

This snubbed was a big one. Kinda how Elba was hugely snubbed for 'Beasts of No Nation'. A role that would no doubt make him the lead favorite for the Oscar in any year. In a way, Elba, was the sacrifice for all the NOW streaming nominated films/performances which happen now.
