The "Nuff Said" Marvel Universe RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

So, yeah. Took me over two weeks to bang out a Daredevil post.

Sorry 'bout that...

Also, damn you all.

It's insanely easy to get self-conscious about my own work when there's such awesome work already in the IC thread. The fight between Venom and the Heroes-For-Hire guys was expertly crafted, gents. Well done.

How abiut the Hulk. Im at work now so I cant get an app since Im typing on my phone, but could I reserve him til about 3-3:30 when I get home and can type an app

I don't know about "reserving" (because it would have come in handy when a certain sneaky Canadian jumped on Taskmaster...), but since interest's been shown by two different parties you should have within 24 hours of the first application for that character (which I don't think has officially been applied for yet).

As per the Californian Superhero RPG Code, Act 12.

"Tuum manus quis aranea!" or "Get your damn hands off of my Spider-Man!" clause.

Yeah, I don't foresee anyone coming in and scooping him in three hours.

Unknown Location, Middle East

The carnage was unimaginable, the planning precise to cause as much death and suffering as humanly possible, if the people who committed this atrocity could even be considered humans.

Animals, perhaps even monsters. Monsters, like the man who now tended to what living souls he could find had so long been called. Now, as Bruce Banner tended to a young child who had done nothing more than tag along with his family as they traveled to the local market to buy what food they could with the few trinkets they all carried in their pockets, he wondered if anyone who came along this site would dare lump him into that category.

The roadside bomb had probably been meant for any number of military vehicles that patroled this isolated route. It had no doubt been tripped by what looked to be the youngest child, or what was left of her, out of curiousity. The image of her tiny body, mangled, mutilated, only half there...

He pushed the image from his mind, less he vomit what food he had been able to scrounge up that morning.

The tiny boy in his arms, no more than 10 years old, looked a Bruce and even though the language barrier kept them from communicating, his tiny eyes said it all as he watched this stranger mend up the stump where his left arm once had been.

Why?

It was a question Bruce had asked many times in his life, for many different reasons. At this moment, he was almost glad he couldn't talk to the boy, offer him an answer. Because there was no answer. No reason.

"This will hold until we get you to town," Bruce whispered. He knew his words meant nothing, but perhaps the soft, gentle tone and the smile he offered would calm the boy.

"Monsters," Bruce thought, picking the child up. It seemed wherever he went, mosters followed

Thanks Ed. My internet's been down all day and when I called they said they didn't know when it'ds be back. It's back now, IDK for how long though. I'm gonna get a post up somewhere if all goes well.

Edit: Additionally, as I understand it from reading over the rules, this game takes place in current, mainstream Marvel continuity, but there's a certain degree of fluidity? We have the right to take some creative license here and there if we want to? Or is this an inaccurate understanding of this new status quo? Also, what major events have happened? Are we sticking to character-only events, such as the Symbiote Saga (I see we have a Venom), or have some Universal arcs taken place? Have the Secret Wars taken place (uh... any of them, I guess?). Or is it a "nod your head and don't ask any questions" situation?

It's more of a case-by-case basis. For instance, while One More Day and Brand New Day hasn't happened for Spider-Man, half of Hawkeye's history is yet to be experienced. I would recommend going ahead with an idea, writing an app, and just playing the wait-and-see game. The main thing to remember is that this is 10 years into an established 616-reminiscent Marvel Universe, so while it would be frowned upon to have characters just showing up for the first time, nothing in regards to the character's history is out of bounds for a vague exclusion.

If you feel like something is a classic staple of the Marvel Universe, then it's more than likely happened.

Yes to every question? Allow this informational video to give you the basics:

Here's the thing: this is set in the 616 Marvel Universe exactly ten years after everyone's origin story. So, in a way, it's "strict" continuity. But, as we all know, time in comic books isn't always expressed clearly. Peter Parker's been in his late twenties since the '80s, after all. What this allows for is a bit of creative license, as you said.

For some characters, the entirety of their 616 continuity can realistically fit into a ten year time period. For others, it's not so simple. Spider-Man started out as a sixteen year-old. We've seen him graduate high school, college, and pursue post-graduate studies. By the time the Symbiote Saga rolls around, he's already 23, 24? Realistically speaking, the whole of Spider-Man continuity just can't fit into a ten year box. That's why I've elected to end his continuity during the early JMS years, just before Sins Past and all that follows.

These are difficult questions to answer, but perhaps dictating our reasoning for doing things this way will be more enlightening: we don't want to write characters into a box. We're trying to capture the "basic" or "essential" forms of all these characters. Events come and go, changing the status quo as we know it, but things always find their way back to an equilibrium. We aim to find that equilibrium.

Very cool. From what I've heard, the Marvel Universe itself has, from what I can recall, only been in existence for about 16 in-continuity years. Or, at least, Captain America was unthawed 16 years ago. Hopefully something'll pop up in my brain. Thanks!

By the way, Harl, I didn't know where to put John The Skrull on the roster, so I put him temporarily under Walking the Line. If this jives with the character, let me know and I can put him elsewhere.

Oh, Sins Past isn't included? Well, then F**K you, F**K this game, and F**K everything! Sins Past was a storytelling landmark, and pivotal to Spider-Man's development.

It's probably best that Sins Past wasn't included.

So is Spidey married? Are you looking for a Mary Jane? Did I mention I can roleplay females? Am I getting my idea across with these questions?

I had a feeling that my decision to exclude Sins Past would meet with some adversity. It was hard letting go of such a hallmark of Spidey's history, but tough decisions had to be made when I was trimming the fat.

Spidey is married, but I set things during that time period where MJ left to the West Coast while they were having marital trouble. Will their relationship survive?! (Answer: probably. I'm not heartless like Joey Q.)

The madness is back.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Wade Wilson, Deadpool

Brief History (provide at least two sentences): Wade Wilson was once a gloriously handsome, articulate, and charming member of Canadian special forces. Deadly, dastardly, and dedicated, the man was merciless. Then he got cancer. In an effort to cure his illness, he subjected himself to a battery of tests and experiments at Weapon X, the facility responsible for Wolverine's adamantium skeleton. After a series of procedures, he was imbued with Wolverine's healing factor, at the cost of both his physical appearance, and his sanity. Now, he's the Merc with a Mouth, the assh**e assassin, the one and only Deadpool.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Himself. And, I guess... me.

Explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen and why you've chosen this character: I don't have plans, but I have some experience with the character, as veterans will remember. If there was a character I had to say I think I really had a hand in fully developing here at the games, I'd say it was Ultimate Deadpool. When I picked him up, he had only had a handful of IC posts, and I played him through about seven seasons. I loved Wade Wilson, and taking him up again is, at least, interesting.

Do you have an Instant Messenger? Which one, and what is your screen name?: N/A

Why are we doing this?

Doing what?

This. We've done this before. We've done the whole 'oh, look at me, I'm gonna play Deadpool in an RPG' shtick before.

Yes. And the people loved us last time! Why're you complaining?

Don't we want to explore new things? New ideas?

That's what college is for!

... I'm in college.

It's summer vacation.

And I work from 8:30 in the morning to 7 pm daily.

But you've found the time to do this! Your dedication is palpable. No, really. I can taste it. Salty.

I hate you.

And, yet, here you are. Look at yourself. Right back where you were four years ago. Proud of yourself?

Is that a trick question?

Of course it is. Just do me a favor and steer clear of Project: Nexus this time around. Yeesh. Talk about a good idea that just got muddled down in the execution. 'Hey,' you said, 'let's do Days of Future Past, but featuring you!' Loved it. 'And we'll make it take seven goddamned weeks.' That wasn't what I signed up for.

To be fair, the Fourth Wall breaking wasn't bad.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the great either. At least you avoided getting too inundated with tropes when you wrote it.

Inundated? Tropes? When did your vocabulary evolve past junior year in high school.

When you did!

But this is an application. It's important to have dialog that fits you as a cha--

Blah, blah, blah, character authenticity, inner dialog, knowing I'm on the internet. The mods get that you have a plan for writing me. We all get it, MM. You know what you're doing. Thank you so much for really subtly hammering the point home.

Deadpool knelt silently behind a truck at the entrance of a Hydra warehouse. A single bead of sweat slid down his masked face, and was quickly absorbed by the fabric covering his brow. In his hand, he held a pistol, fully loaded. Rumors had been swirling tha--

FINALLY SOME ACTION.

You're interrupting.

Rumors had been swirling that the terrorist cell headquartered in the warehouse was expected to receive a shipment of a pair of biochemical warheads. Fully aware that such devices would be deadly in the hands of terrorists, Deadpool had taken it upon himself to prevent their deployment.

That doesn't sound like me.

Not only that, but the Merc with a Mouth also realized that, with a pair of warheads at his disposal, he would have all the leverage he needed against any government in the world. And, with that kind of power, he could put his name on any mercenary contract in the world.

Thaaaat sounds like me.

MM, just to let you know, I've used Deadpool in the IC thread in my Wolverine arc as part of X-Force.

By the way, Harl, I didn't know where to put John The Skrull on the roster, so I put him temporarily under Walking the Line. If this jives with the character, let me know and I can put him elsewhere.
John's definitely a hero, brah. I'll get a post up this week. I still have a masters thesis to complete and there's a European Championship football going on.

Europe has football? I thought you guys were only about soccer over there. :yay:

(Obvious troll is obvious.)

Okay, so here's the deal.

Because it's been pretty unanimously made clear that A) we needed more activity up in this *****, and remaining in the RPG boards weren't going to help improve our chances of seeing new faces, and B) most of the longtime gamers got their start in the comics sections, I recieved TheCorpulent1's permission to move this game back to the Marvel boards as a trial run to see if we can't see an improvement.

If this doesn't work out, we're being moved back to the RPG boards and we're probably going to have to stay there. It's as simple as that.
