I didn't say you are ignoring it, I said you seem to be ignoring it. If you are not stating it explicitly (which you admit) then you are seeming to ignore it, meaning that my assumption is perfectly accurate. :oldrazz:

Oh, is that the kind of game you want to play with me? Alright. Remember; you drew first blood. :)

I was curious about the Politico article (link:http://tinylink.com/?vhhup0LWD0) because it was sort of nebulously written, with not a lot of direct quotes but a lot of writer narrative. It seems Obama’s quote about his daughter possibly not deserving Aff. Action was taken from one of the earlier primary debates moderated by George Stephanopolous and Charlie Gibson (link here: http://tinylink.com/?oHCsm8lINs). Here’s the pertinent part:
Obama began, "Well, I think that the basic principle that should guide discussions not just of affirmative action, but how we are admitting young people to college generally, is how do we make sure that we're providing ladders of opportunity for people? How do we make sure that every child in America has a decent shot in pursuing their dreams?"

Acknowledging that "race is still a factor in society," Obama nonetheless suggested that his own daughters, who've had "a pretty good deal," might not be deserving of special treatment.

But he added: "I still believe in affirmative action as a means of overcoming both historic and potentially current discrimination, but I think that it can't be a quota system and it can't be something that is simply applied without looking at the whole person, whether that person is black, or white, or Hispanic, male or female. What we want to do is make sure that people who've been locked out of opportunity are going to be able to walk through those doors of opportunity in the future."
The Politico article doesn’t include the bolded part interestingly enough. It seems like they were trying to create a certain narrative and cherry-pick quotes to imply a change in position. So again, I reiterate that his stance hasn’t changed. If anyone can show me how this is a flip-flop though, I'll gladly eat my words.

My Daughter was born yesterday 5lbs 14-ounces 19-inches long Taedra is her name :woot: :woot: :woot: :D

Okay now back to the discussion...

Good Point Überlibran

It seems that people are looking for anything they can find to detract from Obama's canadacy. Obama looks at Aff-Action wholistically not just based on race but socioeconomics.

Affirmative Action

Apply affirmative action to poor white college applicants. (Apr 2008)
Fight job discrimination to give women equal footing at jobs. (Feb 2008)
Remove discriminatory barriers to the right to vote. (Feb 2008)
Benefited from affirmative action but overcame via merit. (Dec 2007)
Include class-based affirmative action with race-based. (Oct 2007)
Better enforce women's pay equity via Equal Pay Act. (Aug 2007)
Supports affirmative action in colleges and government. (Jul 1998)

I'll talk to you all later I am headed back to the hospital, Chaio...:word:

The same people who complained that he's not pandering enough and needs to change his stance on a few things to have a legit shot at the post are now complaining that he's pandering and is flip flopping on issues.

LOL.

Wait till the boys see what she gets, and what they don't. When my step brother hit 14, and I was 16, he got pissed when I got money for baby sitting my little step sister, and he got half of that for mowing the lawn, cleaning the garage, etc. It was hysterical. He's a great guy, but man he hated the double standard. I loved it......:oldrazz:

One: Congrats on the fourth member of your basketball team.
I expect that being a better man than I,.. you won't end up in jail in 15+ years from now for teen-slaughter when boys start noticing her,....

Two: The Spirit of Affirmative Action has been twisted way out of shape which is why so many give it an auto "nay".
Unfortunate since originally it got folk willing to work hard into areas they normally would have no chance at.

Meh.

Alright, That does it. I'm not voting for Obama. :cmad:

I was reading an article in Entertainment Weekly today about McCain and Obama and they asked them a bunch of pop culture questions and one of them was "Favorite Superhero". McCain's answer was Batman and Obama's was Spider-man of all things.:cmad:

I'm not voting for a Marvel man.:cmad:

I believe Obama also stated Batman citing reasons of "inner turmoil."

No, never.

Every single politician is suppose to keep the same stance on every issue, no matter what. That's why I hate Robert Byrd with a passion. I would have no problem if he remained a member of the KKK, but the fact that he flip-flopped on hating black people and he's gone as far as to apologize for his past bigotry pisses me off so much there is no way I can support him. He is a disgrace to the political system, and so is anyone else who flip flops.

Brilliantly executed.

Not really. The analogy is flawed. Byrd did not change his stances from week to week in order to be more electable. Hell, if anything, when Byrd renounced the Klan, it would've made him less electable based on his electorate. I would not claim Obama flip flopped if he renounced a vote or belief he has 40 years ago as Byrd did. Obama on the other hand is changing his positions from week to week in order to pander. There is a difference between changing policy while governing for the sake of what is best for the people you govern and changing policy while campaigning for the sake of pandering to the electorate. Obama is doing the latter and THAT is why it is flip-flopping.
