I'm inclined to believe there'll be a Weekend Update changeup this season, whether it's right at the start or halfway through. I just find it hard to believe that Jost and Che would end their run without a sendoff (though that would be on brand for Che). I also think if they're truly done with Update, Che would probably leave the show but Jost would still stay on the staff.

I think Michael Longfellow would be perfect for Update.

What the actual ****? He didn't even get a chance to play Zohran Mamdani yet. He had potential and out of the three new cast members from last year, Jane Wickline is the one that should have been dropped but they'll probably keep her because she's a nepo baby. :o

I'm upset about this one. He was great as a guest on Update to the point where he absolutely could have taken over at the desk once Jost and Che leave. Lorne's really been dropping the wrong people between this season and Chloe Troast last year.

After that length of a run, and with her getting more work lately, this feels like it could’ve been her choice, but still… Jesus.

Damn, end of an era. Gardner's been on the show long enough that I think her exit from the show might have been on her own terms. I'm not totally shocked because out of the longest tenured cast members there not named Kenan Thompson she seemed the likeliest to not come back. She'll definitely be missed.

Realistically the cast has been too big and unwieldy for quite a while now so thinning it out isn't as much of a shock compared to who's getting fired. It's also been a while since the show has cleaned house like this. The last time there was a mass exit was in 2022 when Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson and Kyle Mooney left but that was all on their own terms, plus it was known before the season ended because they each had a little sendoff.
