Welcome to the Retirement Garden, home of the Boston Celtics

Hahahaha, you know, the Celtics do have a lot of old players but they also have a young group for the future there. Rondo, Big Baby, and even Leon Powe. Garnett still has a few years on him and Paul Pierce can play for 8 more years realistically barring injury. I see Ray Allen retiring soon, maybe as soon as after the next season.

Celtics are gonna sign Grant Hill now. Which means Big Baby & Powe are gone.

They should really just change their name to the Boston Forwards now.

The NBA is beginning to resemble MLB, where as, a couple of elite teams, than there's everyone else.

Powe isn't going anywhere. Big Baby could be another story. Although they do have the right to match any offer he gets from another team.

The more I think of this AI to the Heat rumor, the more I like it. It helps Wade out a lot to have another scorer on the team, someone they know can drop 30 if Wade gets hurt or is having an off game. The only problem I see is, would he be coming off the bench? Chalmers was real solid at the point last season and can only go up from there. Wade at the point, Iverson at the 2? I just don't see it, even though Wade handles the ball like 95% of the time anyway.

Well it's my first post back in the NBA thread in weeks...I couldn't come right back after Orlando Lost I was grieving. But i've moved on and things are getting crazy in the free agent market. On an Orlando note Sad Gortat and Turk are gone. Glad Carter is here but I absolutely HATE:mad: that we gave up Lee in that deal that kid is going to be a freaking star!

If AI goes to Miami, he will come off the bench and lead the second team. That would give Wade more rest and lessen the fact that he accume more minutes with the second team, than any other starter in the league.

That's been the case for a good while now, not in just recent years with all these vets moving on to already stacked teams late in their careers.

By th way, Kidd back to the Mavs for $20-something million over 3 years. Good luck with that.

Last I heard Powe is out till February. I think Big Baby will end up in San Antonio.

It doesn't strike me as odd as it once did, but I do think AI should come off the bench (which has it's own issues). It'd have to be handled better than his stint in Detroit and there's really no reason it shouldn't be. You can involve a guy heavily in your offense while in a 6th man role; still logging 30+ minutes.

Iverson could run with the reserves in largely the same role he's accustomed to. It'd help make up for what's lost in bench production with Beasley moving to the starting unit ...which better ****ing happen.

Not unless they start playing him at the 3.

MIAMI (AP) - Dwyane Wade will remain in Miami on one condition. He wants the Heat to become a championship contender again, the quicker the better.

Otherwise, he might need moving trucks next summer.

The reigning NBA scoring champion, who can opt out of his Heat contract after the 2009-10 season, said Monday that simply getting to the playoffs "is not enough" to satisfy him anymore, and that his long-term commitment to Miami hinges entirely on the franchise getting back into the mix for the title trophy he hoisted just three years ago.

"I'm going to listen. I owe the Miami Heat that much. I'm going to listen to what they have to say and I'm going to think about it," Wade told The Associated Press. "But right now, the way I feel, I want to make sure that we're on track to where I want us to be on track to before I sign back."

Wade made clear that he would like to stay with the Heat, reiterating something he's said countless times in recent months. There's no acrimony between the 2006 NBA finals MVP and Heat president Pat Riley either, and Wade said that the jump Miami made this past season — from 15 wins and the league's worst record in 2007-08, to 43 wins and the No. 5 seed in the East in 2008-09 — was thrilling.

"I'm good with that," Wade said, "for one year."

Another season around .500, though, won't be as enticing.

"That's not enough for me," said Wade, who set career-bests last season in scoring average (30.2 per game), 3-point goals (88, three more than his total from his first five NBA seasons combined), steals (2.2 per game), blocks (1.3 per game) and games played (79).

At 27, he feels like he's just entering his prime — and doesn't want to miss any opportunity for more titles.

"I've told coach Riley this: All my life, all I've ever wanted to do is win and be put in a position where I can win and succeed," Wade said. "Build me a team. Put the pressure on me to win a championship. Give me a team and say 'All right, you've got to go do it,' and I'll take that pressure. Give me guys that we feel can compete every year to win a championship. I don't want to go anywhere else."

Wade's contract status is the biggest issue facing the Heat this summer. He could sign an extension as early as next week.

His destination after next season has been an oft-discussed topic, especially since he and good friend LeBron James structured their last contracts the same way to have the flexibility to become free agents in 2010.

"I want to make sure that we stay competitive and we have an opportunity to win championships, like I've done before," Wade said. "I don't want to be content with winning games. I don't want to win games. I want to win championships. That's what I'm all about."

Already this summer, the Heat have seen plenty of teams in the East make big moves. Shaquille O'Neal - Wade's former superstar teammate - was traded to Cleveland to play alongside James. Orlando landed Vince Carter, Boston reportedly agreed with Rasheed Wallace, Detroit picked up Ben Gordon and Toronto seems poised to sign Hedo Turkoglu.

The Heat have yet to make a splashy move, hoping young players like Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, Daequan Cook and Dorell Wright can help Miami made more strides this season.

"D-Wade wants what's best for the Miami Heat, period," former Heat center Alonzo Mourning said last week. "Obviously, he wants more help for the Heat to get to that next level again. He feels like we've got good pieces around us. We just need a little bit more."

Wade sees it the same way.

"My talents can help a team compete for a championship," Wade said. "I've proven that."

Let's go, Riles. You've never been shy to make a move. Now isn't the time to start.

I think most of the big names have already made a move, so I'm not sure who else will be available for Heat to make a championship run next season.

They can hang that 'contend for a title next season' stuff up right now. It'd have taken 2 or 3 moves, largely because the surrounding talent isn't ready. You can have 2 superstars, but you still need role players to make it all click. However, the team can still get better; considering the one man show last season was, it shouldn't be that hard.

The best thing Miami can do is let Beasley run, hope there is something to all this 'JO rejuvenation' business being floated and try to use the MLE this year to add a bit more. Maybe flashing some of the slew of expiring contracts available and seeing what shakes. The biggest chip they're playing with is the ability to sign another big name besides Wade in 2010, but a stronger/more seasoned supporting cast is still a necessity.

Free agency-wise, sure. Tradewise, it's still open. I can see Riley pulling off a deal for Stoudemire, maybe even Boozer. Do I want these moves to go down? No, especially if they include either one of those injury prone guys, but at the same time you can't settle for another mediocre 42-40 season when your best player is in his prime and the rest of the teams in your conference are making moves left & right to get better.

Raps and Mavs are discussing the possibility of a sign and trade with Marion and in return the Raps would get Stackhouse...then I think Stackhouse would be traded off somewhere else thus for this to happen there will have to be a third party involved.

The Raptors would then buy Stackhouse out and watch him re-sign with Dallas.
